I love SparkPeople sometimes. Really. I like getting emails that give me good ideas or motivate me.
“Visual images can be powerful tools in helping you reach your goals. There are lots of creative ways to use this motivation technique, such as posting an image of your goal where you’ll see it most—in your car, on a bathroom mirror, or on the refrigerator. Visual images can also help you reach your weight loss goals. Create a chart to measure your progress, display before and after pictures, or get a brochure of the vacation destination you’ll visit after you reach your goal. These are all good ways to constantly remind yourself of the commitment you’ve made.” – By Jen Mueller, SparkPeople Community Leader
This tip from SparkPeople has helped me realize that keeping visual reminders around leads to more success in weight loss. I made a board of visual reminders that I placed on the wall next to my door. I see it every time I leave my room so I am reminded of the commitment I have made to losing weight.
On my board I have photos of my at my highest weight so I remember where I have come from and what I do not want to return to. There is also a picture of my at the lowest weight of my adult life when I lived in Austria. I also have a few health articles that focus on important reasons why weight loss is important.
These are the things on my visual reminder board. What would you have on yours?

I like to go back to pics I have posted on my blog of progress along the way. It really helps in the motivation area. I also have several items of clothing I look at often to inspire me….I want to get into my black leather coat even it it’s at the end of winter. Great reminder of how visual helps the journey ;) So much of it we cannot see day to day so these things really do help!
I really like that idea. I’ve had my before photos as my laptop’s wallpaper (just at startup) for a little while now, to remind me of where I don’t want to be anymore.
I have a dress a size to small hanging where I see it when I get dressed and undressed. I find it works better than a magnet in the fridge.
Also like Annette I love looking at my progress photographs. Right now I am getting great strength from them, as I have to make up some 16 lbs. I WILL make it!
So visual stimulants work!!!

Maybe this doesn’t go quite along with your thinking, but it sparked a memory for me: think of yourself as being the size/shape/etc you want to be. Visualize yourself exercising in the body you’re determined to have. We used to do this activity at soccer practice — imagine ourselves playing the best we could, and then playing that way at the game.
(You know, Run Away Bride — see the ball, be the ball…when she’s rehearsing her wedding to the coach??)
Oh my goodness YES!! Visuals can be so great and motivating. The one thing I have learned about this kind of stuff though is to use the “KISS” method. That is “Keep it simple Stupid!”
I tend to collect, create, and display too much imagery, data, and motivational images. I always have to edit some out for fear of making myself CRAZY!!!! LOL LOL
