Part of the holiday season means drinking tasty cocktails and eating great food. I love this time of year but I am trying to control the damage the constant partying and eating has on my weight loss efforts.
I am compiling (and testing) a list of good, healthy, low calorie options for mixed drinks. But I still have a ways to go on my list so for now what I am trying to do is just avoid the drink that will do the most damage.
This list of unhealthy holiday drinks to avoid offers a good starting list of drinks to avoid during the season. They might be tasty but they will pack on the pounds faster than you can say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
High Calorie Holiday Drinks To Avoid
- White Russian: Vodka, coffee liqueur and cream equals 863 calories.
- Spiced Eggnog: Regular eggnog mixed with spiced rum equals 343 calories.
- Mudslide: White Russian with the addition of Bailey’s Irish Cream and chocolate syrup equals 851 calories.
- Chocolate Martini: Choice of vodka, chocolate liquor, and chocolate crumbles on the rim equals 438 calories.
- Mulled Wine: Packed with sugar and has 356 calories and 40 grams of carbs.
- Irish Coffee: Coffee, whiskey, Bailey’s, whipped cream equals 320 calories.
- Long Island Iced Tea: Rum, gin, vodka, tequila, triple sec, sour mix and a splash of cola equals 380 calories.

My fave drink of all time is a shot of Bacardi, add a splash of freshly squeezed lemon juice, about a teaspoon of diet lime cordial (the actual bottled one, not the kids Coola lime flavour) and then topped up with either soda water or diet lemonade. Add some ice blocks and mint leaves if it’s summer time, and you have the perfect diet friendly Mojito :) I survived on them for a whole summer’s worth of parties.
If you’re out, Bacardi lime and soda is much the same, though minus the tanginess of the lemon juice. And they rarely have diet lime and you’d feel like an idiot for asking…

@Kenz
That sounds really good! I will definitely try it.
Wow, that Mudslide is calorific! Bet it tastes delicious, though :D
My mum got some Pimms and Bacardi for Christmas. Add that to the bottle of whiskey, the bottle of Baileys, and the bottle of Alize… Christmas could be a blur! :D I should say, all of the alcohol we have in the house, we haven’t bought :D It’s all been gifts through the year.
