The Reasons Why I Eat

in Emotional Eating,Emotional Health

I’m working on my emotional health right now and looking into the reasons behind why I eat like I do.

So why do I eat? Every time I put something in my mouth there is a reason behind that action. These are the reasons why I eat….

I eat because I feel hungry.
I eat because my body needs fuel.
I eat because I need energy.
I eat because I am bored.
I eat because it is something to do.
I eat because I’m watching tv.
I eat because it’s “time to eat.”
I eat because food is offered to me.
I eat because food is available.
I eat because someone suggested it.
I eat because everyone else is eating.
I eat because its what I do with friends.
I eat because I am in the kitchen.
I eat because I am cooking something.
I eat because something looks tasty.
I eat because I have cravings.
I eat because I think about food.
I eat because something made me mad.
I eat because I feel upset.
I eat because I feel lonely.
I eat because no one is around to talk to.
I eat because I am sad over something.
I eat because I want to block emotions.
I eat because I don’t want to think.
I eat because I want to focus only on food.
I eat because I want to fill full.
I eat because I feel empty.
I eat because food comforts me.

Why do you eat?

Lol! Yeah, I know I clearly have a lot of reasons why I eat at different times. I like your reason though.

Good post. I did something similar to this when I was first starting my journey. I listed what food meant to me. Turned out it really meant alot.

The first step to overcoming our problems is to acknowledge and recognise them.

Yeah I like how avoided the “first step” for a long time. It was easier for me to go exercise and look weight but I finally realized I need to deal with my food issues.

lots of reasons but mainly because it’s something to do and a way to distract me from something I don’t want to do.

I try to eat to live, not the other way around.

I love myself more than food. I’ve tried to burn that phrase into my brain.

@BigGirl
Thats a reason I eat too that I didn’t even think about. I definitely use food to distract me from other things.

@Tony
You’ve got it right my friend.

I ATE because I was awake.
I ATE because I was trying to fill a hole in my heart.
I ATE to numb my feelings. I have an addiction/disease.
I changed my life through the miracle of weight loss surgery and so now I have pretty much successfully changed my relationship with food. I look at food as fuel now. It’s not always perfect but it’s working for me so far! Thanks for sharing.
