Making Excuses

in Struggles

I don’t know what is wrong with me today.  My friend called me after I got off work to tell me she was going running and wanted me to come.  It was perfect timing because I had just been thinking about when to squeeze in a workout.  Yet as soon as I hung up with her I started thinking of excuses.  I must have ran a thousand reasons through my brain about why I should call her and cancel.

Here is the weird thing: I wanted to go.  I wanted to walk 3 miles today.  I wanted to get a workout in so I wouldn’t feel bad about my lack of activity lately.  Yet I didn’t.  I canceled on her because my ipod wasn’t charged.  Yep, thats it.  I had no music so I could not walk.  Does this make sense?  Not at all.

=/ Oh well. You were honest about it, and next time you can keep yourself accountable that no music is not a valid excuse :)

and yet it does. in a way. to me. THAT IS ONE REASON I DONT USE MUSIC!! I know myself and Id so not workout on a day I discovered my mp3 player was dead/use that as an excuse (kinda the same reason I dont lift with gloves. I know Id skip a workout if I forgot the gloves. if that makes sense :))

Im with FLG in that you were HONEST with yourself (key) and todays a new day.
a day filled with walking perhaps?

It makes as much sense as any of the other dozens of excuses we give ourselves.

Here’s something to consider next time you try to use that excuse: walking is a great time for writing stories in your head. If you don’t lean that way (story-writing, that is), you can take the ending of your favorite movie and re-write it or head-write the scene that came after the last one you saw on the screen. It’s a great way to lose track of the miles and the pace. And no batteries required. :)

I’ve felt this way and have no real solution except to push through. It only takes a pushin’ 2 or 3 times then I’m back on a roll. But it does suck.

it makes perfect sense to me. I can’t stand working out without music. It’s amazing the power of a beat and something to distract me from my wandering mind.

Hi I didnt want to be a mere passer-by or wordless visitor. yes, it makes perfect sense to me. I caught myself lately acting the same way and like today being overly active and stomping thru life, flat and walking over souls, mine and his. Paula xx

@FLG & MizFit

Honesty? Yes.
Valid Excuse? No.
New day? Yes.

Thanks guys.

@Cammy

I love that idea! I am a story teller at heart so I will definitely try to think of my walking time as story telling time instead of “zone out” time. I’ll be more productive entertained and get my workout in. :) Good suggestion.

I see no problem with cancelling out on exercise becasue the ipod is not charged. Sometimes I pray that I find my ipod battery dead so that I can skip out on exercise! tee hee hee
