I was given a deck of NURU Exercise Anywhere cards to use and review a few weeks ago. My friends at mizfitonline, Every Gym’s Nightmare, Roni’s Weigh, Training for a Half, and Mark Salinas have already done reviews and giveaways. If you missed your chance there you get another one here!
The NURU Exercise Anywhere cards are a small deck of 30 cards tiny enough to fit in the back pocket of your jeans. These cards are designed so you can workout no matter your fitness level and no matter where you are. You can pull out the deck anywhere – at the gym, at home, at work- and quickly choose an exercise.
The cards are separated into body parts – chest, back, lower body, shoulders, arms, abs, and a cardio lab. All the exercises use your body weight as resistance, and the only equipment you need is a towel, or a sturdy surface. Every exercise is illustrated and has directions, so you know you are doing them effectively, and there are suggestions for advanced variations of exercises so you can mix it up a bit.
My Experience With The Exercise Anywhere Deck
I love working out at a gym where there are machines, people, music, healthy thoughts and atmosphere. When I try to workout at home I lose focus, get distracted, find something else to do, etc. For me going to the gym guarantees that I will get in done. Once I leave my house I am focused and ready to get it done. But a week ago when my car was in the shop for a few days instead of being lazy because I was stranded, I used the Exercise Anywhere deck for my workouts.
I enjoyed the experience. All the exercises are clearly illustrated and described with instructions on how to complete a full workout for each major body part. I managed to work through the deck during the week and got in several good workouts with the exercises using just my body weight. To be honest I wouldn’t have done this if I wasn’t doing it for a review and my car had stranded me at home. I am not a work out a home kind of girl. It took me over two months to finally get around to doing a workout dvd I won from a fellow blogger. So I only went through the deck once and went back to my gym habit since then, leaving the deck in my purse. But the great thing about that is I ALWAYS have it with me. You know how I sometimes do lunges and things in the grocery store while my mom is deciding what kind of food she wants? Well this little pack is going to be there ready for me to whip out and try something new. I can pull it out, pick a muscle group or an exercise and bust out a couple sets. It will also be GREAT for traveling which I do quite often.
I like this product also because of the information it contains in addition to the workout info. There is a lot of good, basic health information on these cards that would be great for a beginner to have and a good reminder for anyone. There are several myths that are debunked and each major muscle group has an explanation about why it is important to work that group of muscles. They also include the American Heart Association’s recommendations for their “cardio lab” section. Overall I think the pack contains some great information. Its not about the fads and quick fixes. Its just giving you the knowledge you need to get a great workout in wherever you happen to be (especially without gym equipment). Its about giving you the information so you can do the hard work that must be done to get and stay healthy. Sold – I’m a fan of that.

My favorite do any-where exercise. You can work on muscles, balance and core anywhere. Stand on one leg and lean slightly to throw yourself off balance even further. Stand like that for a few minutes and then flip flop to the other leg. Do this a few times and you’ll be sore. :-)
That said…for cardio…WALK WALK WALK. YOu can walk ANYWHERE!
