Moving Out: Freedom & No Excuses

Let me tell you something… Today is a great day!

It is a great day because I am finally moving out of my house. YES!!!  Finally!

My original plan had been to come home after BlogHer and move to Oregon with my friend Jessi. I was very much looking forward to this but unfortunately those plans have been delayed until the new year. I ended up with an unexpected 3 month opportunity elsewhere that extended my time at home by one month. So instead of moving away I was looking at an extra month at home. For me this was not good.

After a year living here I’ve realized this house is a toxic environment for me. My brother’s constant negativity, the overabundance of unhealthy food, and the bad memories and habits all add up to make a terrible environment for me. I know that spending more time here threatens both my sanity and my progress. So I decided not to let that happen.

I asked around and found a friend willing to let me rent an extra room in his apartment for a month. At the very least all my friend will do is encourage me to drink too many calories, and I can deal with that.  I’ve packed most of my belongings and I’m moving across town for the rest of August.

It will be nice to be out of my mom’s house again and have control over my life. I won’t be able to blame my problems and failures on my environment any longer and that will be a good thing. Freedom and no excuses. I cant wait. :)

Good for you! Some would say it’s only another month, but really, I support your decision! I hope you will feel empowered in your new surroundings.

Congrats on getting yourself out of an unwholesome situation. It’s kind of a shame you couldn’t have gotten out of town tho… Mempho is August is usually pretty brutal, esp compared to Oregon.

Hope it all works out for you.

I’m all for the donations. I came here, visiting from cranky’s best of.
Sounds like moving is the right direction.

Good for you for taking steps toward your happiness! Even when you know a big change is the right one, it takes a lot to make it!

Congrats on moving out! That’s awesome! Being on your own is so powerful especially since there is a barrier to eating your roommates foods!

@JackSh*t
Dude, that was why I was moving to Oregon originally. I hate Memphis in August. Hopefully I don’t melt away!!

@FLG
It was. Very laidback and stress free – just how I like things!

Congrats on the crib. I hope I’m using that term correctly—being over 40 and all. :)
I *love* what you’re doing with the Food Bank donations. I think my next comment will be five words, one word in each comment field.

I can’t wait to move out from my family home! it can be such a negative environment. they’re always eating out and encouraging bad behaviour! not long for me now til i move back in to a new flat in manchester. I desperately need my own space! I am quite proud of my eating habits since i moved home actually., surprised myself!

Good for you. Being in an unhealthy environment not only affects weight loss but also a persons state of mind. I hope you find the happiness and health that you deserve to have!! Rock on girl!

Should I mention that Oregon’s been brutally hot for the last couple weeks? Naaah, probably not. It’s a great place! Plus, if you come next year there will probably be more jobs (right now we’re second only to Michigan for unemployment).

25 Amos the Lion Heart August 5, 2009 at 9:05 am

congrats! that’s awesome! Hope you enjoy your new digs!

26 Robin August 5, 2009 at 9:17 am

Good for you but just the thought of moving gives me hives.

27 Merry Mary August 5, 2009 at 9:19 am

@Merry
Brutally hot in Oregon is not even close to brutally hot in Memphis, promise. The job thing is a little scary but maybe you guys will have better options by the time I actually get there!

28 The Fit Mission August 5, 2009 at 1:12 pm

Sounds like you are happy and whatever makes you happy. Being in a negative environment that you have no control over is hard but you are doing a wise thing and leaving the situation. Good for you and come check out san diego soon.

29 Jody - Fit at 51 August 5, 2009 at 2:32 pm

You go girl! Take control of your life.. CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

30 Christy T (The Fat Girl) August 9, 2009 at 10:55 pm

Congratulations! I know you are strong enough to say no when you need to regarding drinking too many calories. Oregon. That’s a long way away from our great state. Would have been a nice climate change. I feel like we’re in the dog days. It’s brutal outside, especially today.
