Loving Exercise Again

in Fitness

Woke up this morning feeling fine – great, even.  No pain at all.  It’s strange how the pain left just as quickly as it started.  I have no idea what is going on with my crazy body.  But since the pain is gone I am going to just be grateful and go on with life.

Earlier when I went to take out the trash I decided to check out the fitness center since it is close to the dumpster.  I had my keycard with me so I decided I would go check out the facilities in order to make the decision on whether I would workout in the gym or bike later.  I ended up doing cardio on the stationary bike and an upper body strength session.

I now feel like a badass.

That’s right.  Exercise makes me feel amazing!!  I always feel so strong and good after I spend time sweating and pushing my body to do things.  The workout might be hard – and it wasn’t easy after not doing anything for 1.5 weeks – but the feeling afterward is always worth it.

I never understand how I let stuff get in the way of doing something that makes me feel so good.  I let time, emotions, business, etc. get in the way of workouts.  They should be higher on my priority list, don’t you think?  Anything that keeps my body healthy, makes it work better, and makes me feel better should be one of my top priorities.  I don’t understand how I let it slip off the list entirely sometimes.

Exercise isn’t punishment for me, like it is for some people.  I understand that some people just don’t like it.  When I first started consistently working out a few years ago I didn’t like it either.  I worked out hard and lost weight and realized that it worked, so I exercised more.  It still felt like punishment and something I had to do for a long time.  But after a while something in me switched and I started to like exercise.  I enjoyed it.  I still enjoy it now, even if I let other things get in the way.  Exercise is pleasurable. It’s fun.

I think I’ve just had so many issues lately with my dumb body.  I hurt my ankle.  I hurt my back.  I had weird unidentifiable pain.  And so on.  These things all have thrown me off my game and gotten me off track.  They’ve stopped me from working out, they’ve stopped me from doing the things I enjoy.   If my body would just cooperate I could exercise and not take these distracting breaks.  If my body would just be nice and not hurt itself then I could do the things I love!

Speaking of things I love:  I’ve been looking at things to do in Vermont.  I can’t wait to go hiking and hopefully biking.  I also want to kayak and go snowboarding if it snows before I leave.  I’m also super excited about all the great fitness activities at Green Mountain.  It’s going to be a fun and active 3 months. I can’t wait!

I’m so happy to be loving exercise again.  And to be doing it.

Do you love exercise like I do?  Are there certain activities you love to do and can’t wait for every day?  Or is exercise still a pain, something you have to do?

That is great – so glad you are feeling better and enjoying exercise again. I am really, really appreciating being able to do active things again after so long not being able to.

We were given bodies for a reason – let’s use em!

Exercise makes me feel amazing too :D
I did a 12k walk this week and though it tired the hell out of me it was frickin’ awesome. The feeling afterwards is always worth it. I just wish I could remember that when I make excuses to avoid it. Some times it does feel like a punishment when I haven’t done it in a while.

I love that you love exercise!!! Me, I LOVE THE WEIGHTS! I think everyone knows that about me. Not so much a fan of cardio but I do it! Different kinds but I do it. Weights, I could do all day!!

Glad youre feeling better!!!!! Before I started going to the gym about four years ago, I used to think people who worked out were crazy. But once I started going, I realized it is fun!! If I miss a workout, I feel so sluggish and bleh. I love being on the eliptical and listening to my ipod (its like going out to a club lol). I also love my lift class because I can feel my muscles working which is an amazing feeling, and the music’s pretty good too.

I think it’s great that you get such a great feeling out of exercise.

When I was morbidly obese my idea of exercise was moving from the couch to the kitchen (literally.) Eventually though, as the weight came down, the love of exercise increased to where it is today!

I’m glad you are feeling better Mary!

Hi Mary,

I completely know how you feel!

You summed it up perfectly… exercise makes me feel like a badass, too! I love it. I have not exercised as much as I should have been latley, and now you’ve motivated me to go to the gym tomorrow. I miss that badass-ness.
Thanks!

Karen

Excercise is great and once you go its the best….going is the problem. I have every excuse, and when i run out of escuses i just invite myself to my pity party. Glad I found the blog…

Mary, your words really resonated with me. Like you, I often talk myself out of exercising, but I always feel good when I do it. Good work getting out there and making the exercise happen.

That’s awesome that it feels great! This is inspiring me to hop onto the treadmill!

I like exercising to0-mostly running , but I still seem to find excuses not to..does that make sense? no? yea didnt think so. Anyway,I’ve revived my love for swimming which I should have done a looong time ago considering the summertime! :D

12 Mary August 24, 2009 at 9:05 pm

@Teresa
I’m the same way sometimes! Don’t do the pity party thing tho … just exercise later. :)

@Noemi
Totally makes sense – I do the same thing! Its so easy to love yet still find excuses. Strange.

You’re totally badass :)

So glad to hear the pain is gone, and it really sounds like you’ve got some mojo back :)

And damn, you are going to have so much fun in Vermont!

I love exercise too – especially the feeling you get right afterward… It’s the best. My favorite form of exercise is hiking. Unfortunately, I don’t get to do it every day…

I love to dance, not just thump back and forth but really burn up the dance floor. Kind of hard with all that fat flinging around. I can’t wait to get out there and burn it down. Keep up with the moving.

Exercise is a best way to keep the body fit. I also use to go gym every day.

I now feel like a badass.

LOVE THAT and that’s precisely how I feel when I lift.

precisely.

21 Chubby Stubby Kay August 25, 2009 at 5:46 am

You are a badass, indeed!

So happy that your pain is gone! Was worried about ya, chica.

I ADORE exercising! Walking keeps me focused. Without my daily walk, I’m lost.

:)

Yay for exercise. I remember when I started the Jillian Michaels DVD and thought I was going to die…it’s still a challenge, but one I LOOK FORWARD TO which has NEVER been the case. We’re really doing great! Keep it up!

I’m so excited for you. That is an amazing feeling! And I also posted about exercise as Pleasure-not-Punishment this week. There must be something in the air!!

I am so thrilled (and a little? envious) about your stint at Green Mountain. Lucky, lucky lucky you and lucky them to have you.

24 teetee_71 August 25, 2009 at 10:20 am

YAY!! Glad ur feeling better! I do feel great after a great, hard sweaty workout. I don’t always look forward to it, but I feel AWESOME when I’m done. Badass describes the feeling pretty well!!

25 Fran August 25, 2009 at 11:45 am

It took some time before I started liking exercise but now I feel good when I exercised, in fact when I’m not exercising for three days I feel tired. But that doesn’t mean I’m always motivated to go, I still have to push myself to go running or go to the gym, But now my body is changing: less fat, more muscles I can see what I’m doing it for.

My favourite is running, I love to be outside!

26 Janet August 28, 2009 at 5:56 pm

If I haven’t exercised for a while, it can be hard to make myself start up again. Once I’ve been in the habit for a few weeks, I do genuinely look forward to it. And no matter what, I always feel better when I’m finished.
