My Goals For Green Mountain

in Thoughts

Dinner last night was great!  The buffet was ridiculous – Paula Dean really does want to make everyone fat!  There was butter and fried things everywhere!  I ended up eating crab legs, shrimp, catfish, hush puppies, and macaroni and cheese.  I tried to find a good dessert but after three bits of three different things gave up that mission.  Overall it was really fun eating good food and spending  some time with my family.

Today has been a much more hectic kind of day.  I moved out of my friend’s apartment and have been running around doing last minute things all day.  One thing I had to do was go order new glasses; the ones I got are awesome and will be mailed to me in a few days.  I’ve also been doing a ton of other things in order to get ready to leave tomorrow morning.

While I’ve been doing all this running around I’ve had plenty of time to think about what I want to get out of the next three months.  A few weeks ago I tried to answer this question for the paperwork associated with the Green Mountain program but could not adequately do it.  Since I will be fully participating in the program for one week and then working and doing the program part time for the rest of the three months in Vermont I had trouble pinpointing what I want to accomplish.  I’m not sure what to expect so I had trouble imagining what I could accomplish.  But after thinking it over I realized there are a few specific things I want to accomplish while I am there.

My Goals For GMFR (Green Mountain at Fox Run)

  1. Try. Let’s be honest here.  I haven’t tried in the last few months.  I haven’t really tried to be healthy or lose weight since September last year when I had to fit in a bridesmaid dress.  I’ve done challenges half-heartedly and never really stuck with consistent healthy eating and exercise.  So my goal for my time at GMFR is to really try my best and also try new things.  Under this point I should have two bullet points:  a) try new foods and b) try new activities/exercise! I want to experience new things and put 100% effort into EVERYTHING I do while I am there.
  2. Lose 30 pounds. I will weigh in tomorrow and record that as my starting weight.  In three months I want to lose 30 pounds.  10 pounds a month is reasonable, doable, and will happen.
  3. Fix my fucked up behaviors. Sorry if you don’t like the f word, but no other words could accurately describe some of the emotional issues and behaviors I occasionally have with food.  I would like to figure out how to get past the crap and move on with normal, healthy habits ALL the time.
  4. Record my experience. Although I really, really wish I still had a video camera, I’m going to try and record the experience the best way I can with my laptop’s built in camera.  At the very least I want to share my progress and the major things I learn while at GMFR.

That’s really my only goals I can think of right now.  I’m sure there will be more specific things I want to accomplish once I’m there and get a sense of what it is like.  But for now I’m off to pack and get ready for my 6 am flight tomorrow.  Look for a video weigh in/intro to Green Mountain tomorrow or Monday.  It’s going to be great!

Great goals for this experience! I was going to tell you that there is no “try” just do, but eating new foods and doing new activities is exactly what will make the experience worthwhile.

Looking forward to your updates and thoughts while you go through this.

You’ve been splashing around in the shallows for too long, Mary. Time to jump into the deep end.

Dive in, girl.

Mary, I am so excited for you!I I went to Rancho La Puerta in 2006 and it was a huge catalyst for me. I was lucky enough to go there for a week in 06 and another week in 07. I can only imagine what three months in a health centered place like Green Mountain at Fox Run will be. I think your goals are awesome!! Thank you for sharing them and being willing to share your upcoming experiences. I am looking forward to hearing all about it. Safe travels tomorrow!

I am so excited for you. I think that it’s going to be a very challenging yet rewarding experience. I know it’s a weight loss camp, but I would challenge you to focus more on the lifestyle changes and not as much on the weight. I know that seems weird, but I can promise you that when you make the lifestyle changes and re-wire everything in your life your weight will come off :)

Have the most amazing experience. Be open, honest, absorbing and determined.

You’re an inspiration for so many of us :)

The fuck word is a great word when it is used appropriately, and not abused.

Good goals. Now, take them down! :)

Mary, I think Green Mountain sounds like an AWESOME program and I am very excited that you will get to experience and share those experiences through your blog! I think your goals are GREAT!! and trying is so important (especially that you can recognize that you have not really been trying) and I think sometimes the “F” word is absolutely necessary (just don’t tell my students, ok?) and IMO if your are to really try and succeed and lose those 30 pounds you have to recognize & fix those fucked up behaviors – which I am sure is easier said than done!

I am so glad that I have been able to get to know you through twitter and your blog and I wish you all the luck in the world! Please know that I may be in NJ but I am on that mountain with ya! Supporting and cheering you on! You can do this!! I can’t wait to hear all about it!

Have a safe & fabulous journey!

xo, Jen
