Ben & Jerry’s and Burlington

Adventure day!!  After breakfast four of us decided to go on a little mini road trip to Burlington.  We had planned the trip yesterday with almost everyone intending to go, but in the end only four (Shannon, Lori, Amani, and I) went.  On the way there we made a quick stop at the Ben & Jerry’s factory in Waterbury, VT for a tour of the factory and some ice cream.  We learned some top secret things that unfortunately I cannot discuss on the blog.  Maybe you will just have to take the trip yourself and figure out what makes the ice cream so amazing.

After the tour we went to the Flavor Room and ate ice cream!!!  Luckily the sample flavor of the day was my favorite: chocolate chip cookie dough.  Delicious and their number 2 best-selling flavor!  It was lovely and the perfect size portion for a little snack.

Shannon was sweet and bought me a moose I loved at the Ben & Jerry’s Factory Shop.  I wanted a little stuffed animal to sleep with while I’m in my room alone.  And now my little Vermont moose will remind me of the adventure we had today!  Isn’t he cute?  He still needs a name.

After we left the factory we headed to Burlington to meet up with Margie for lunch “on the outside.”  We found a really cute bistro that had great food.  I ordered duck tacos which were quite delicious and another first for me.  (Knowing that I am recording all my “firsts” now makes me a little more adventurous in everything I do, food and all.)  After lunch we went shopping on Church Street which was a nice area with shops and restaurants.  I didn’t buy anything because I’m trying to save money for a bigger cause, but it was nice to see all the people out in Burlington.  The city has a very interesting mix of people and we even happened upon a fire juggling girl.

It was a really fun time and I enjoyed the whole experience.  Thanks to Lori, Shannon, Amani, and Margie for an awesome day!

Meals:

Breakfast Sunday 913Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice CreamDuck TacosDinner Sunday 913 Chicken Rice Broccoli

Not pictured: plum and pineapple crisp for dessert after dinner because frankly, I forgot to take a picture before I started eating.  No one wants to look at half-eaten food, do they?

Moves:

Today was my rest day, so nothing besides some leisurely walking.

Firsts:

First time eating duck!  For lunch we ate at a bistro in Burlington and I ordered duck tacos, which were fabulous.  They had the thinnest jalapeño slices on them and I have no idea how they managed that.  I’m not sure I liked the duck or not because I didn’t really taste it.  I tried a bit on it’s own but it was quite plain.  Maybe I will have to try duck again.  I’ve always wanted to try Duck a l’Orange just because I’ve heard about it so often.  Are there any fabulous ways of preparing it that I should try sometime?

MMM Ice cream tour – sounds divine!!
I very recently tried duck for the first time in August and I have to admit – not bad! I grew up on acreage and had pet ducks so it’s taken me a while to eat duck and not be traumatised LOL.

Awww moosey is so cute! Being totally unoriginal, the only name I could think of was Bullwinkle. LOL

I’m glad you had such a fun day :) And how serendipitous your favourite ice cream flavour was the sample of the day! Hehe, great picture, btw :D

The Moose! ;)

Yay for more firsts! I’ve never had duck in my life, so I have no idea how to prepare it. My mate keeps promising he’ll bring some duck to one of our gatherings but it hasn’t happened :D When it comes to things I’ve never tried before, I prefer to let people who know how to cook it cook it for me.

oh man how i wish I too could eat some icecream. It’s such a shame that I am lactose intolerant. Anyways, I love what you are doing though.

How about Ben for the moose? Or how about the French word for moose, orignal – very close to original.

Sounds like ice cream heaven to me!

I’ve never in my life heard of duck tacos…I guess I usually associate duck with Chinese food.

I would have checked out that half eaten dessert! :-) I am not a huge ice cream fan but I would love to see that Ben & jerry’s flavor room! Lots of fun for all! Thx for sharing!

Oh I used to live right near burlington, in vergennes. More recently, when I lived in boston, I used to have to go up to burlington for work. Its such a cute little city. I remember ben and jerrys when they were first starting out, when I was five or six or something, and I saw their factory/store then. Since then im sure its way better. I am not a duck fan, it tastes really greasy to me, and ive tried it a few times. But so many people love it so..

I’m so jealous that you got to go to B&Jerrys! I’ve always wanted to go there, but now sure if I could resist all the amazing options

I think the moose must be named Ben or Jerry. Or both.

Oooh I always associate duck with luxury.

How is chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream not their number one seller?!

18 Corporate Gifts September 16, 2009 at 2:49 am

I like strawberry flavor.

@Sagan
I know, right? I don’t even remember what number 1 was… something I don’t eat. Chocolate chip cookie dough is the best!!!
