OH BILLY BLANKS, WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME?
My plan for today was to finally get around to doing my Tae Bo DVD I bought last week and give a review of it. Unfortunately my laptop HATES Billy Blanks. (Or he hates me and my laptop. Not sure which is right.) That is the only logical conclusion I can come to seeing as it refuses to properly play the DVD. It freaks out and freezes up during the intro… it barely gets past the privacy warnings before destroying my hopes and dreams of a workout. So I’m just going to go by my mom’s house and use her DVD player so I don’t have to fiddle with my friends stuff. In the end that will make me walk 2.5 miles, so I’ll get a workout in just to watch the DVD even if I don’t do it. ;) I’ll let you know later (Sunday) how much exercise I’ve done this week and if these plans actually worked out.
EXERCISE, OR THE LACK THEREOF
What else have I been doing? Not much. Apparently I didn’t listen to myself and my goals to stick with strength training kind of fell by the wayside. In the week that I’ve been home I’ve done lower body twice and haven’t done upper body weights at all. Which is already making me sad. I guess I need to go back and read my own advice on ways to motivate yourself to exercise. And if that’s not enough I can read more of my own advice about more ways to motivate yourself to exercise. You see people, I KNOW what I need to do. I KNOW how to motivate myself. I’m just not doing it, for whatever reason. (Ok, so there are some reasons like I can’t afford a gym membership, or the right size weights I need, or running shoes. But I can’t boohoo over this when I’m unemployed and not looking for work. I might just have to suck it up and sacrifice something else to buy the weights and running shoes. *sigh*) At the very least I forced myself to walk to the library to post this, so roundtrip I’ve walked a mile today.
CREATING A WEIGHT LOSS BLOG
Oh, yes! At least while I’ve been laying around inside watching TV and movies I’ve been productive with creating content for things people have been requesting. I wrote a guide on how to start a weight loss blog, because I’ve gotten a lot of requests for how to do this. Apparently quite a few of you out there read my blog and want to start your own. Well, just read the guide and start your own blog! If you have any questions or problems just contact me and I will try to help you. I’m not always the most tech savvy, but I’ve got a lot of friends who are and we will find solutions. I’ve also had lots of emails about tips for blogging and such, so I will start putting that together as well. I might even ask some better bloggers than me to contribute their healthy living blogging tips! Though I might not be exercising much lately I am at least being helpful! Yay?!?
WEIGH INS AND KEEPING TRACK OF THINGS
I love Kepa’s post about how he has lost weight or maintained for so many weeks (almost a year!). That is freaking awesome. I mean, how many people can say that? I know I can’t. But even still I want to better keep track of my progress while I’m home and I’m going back to a weekly weigh-in. I’m doing this for a couple reasons. One – I like seeing weight loss progress. Two – if there isn’t progress and I’m gaining I want to catch it. Three – I’ve got to post about something on Sundays besides listing my exercise! Four – Listing both my exercise and my weight for the week will kind of show how things work with my body. I love keeping track of these things and don’t mind posting them. So I will.
Anyway, that’s just a little bit of randomness for you on this Thursday! Hopefully tonight I will get to do some TaeBo action and have a review for you tomorrow. One day in the faraway future I want to go to a kickboxing gym and do it for real. That would be awesome. But until then I’ll be at home alone, so, so alone trying to motivate myself to exercise. ;)

Love how you are creating help for others!!! Very cool!
It is so much harder to do this on your own when the resources are not thee or you are not at a gym or a place like green Mountain. Kind of like the Biggest Loser people coming home & having to do it on their own.. motivate themselves. You can do it Mary. You know all the probs & you know what your are & are not doing. YOU CAN DO THIS!
As for kickboxing, I am writing about my “out of the comfort zone” to come in my Friday post & it has to do with a boxing gym!!!! Scaring me but I am all about pushing out of the comfort zone! I will talk more to my experience AFTER I do it! :-)

A boxing gym?? I’m soooo jealous! I actually have no problem motivating myself to go to a gym, especially if for a cool class or KICKBOXING! It’s just my motivation when working out on my own at home – it’s not quite as strong. I’ve been good about walking, but the rest has kinda taken a hit.
I’m so excited to hear about your experience. Seriously. I am living vicariously through you. Go hit some stuff. ;)
Mary,
Sorry about the DVD debacle. It might be because those Tae Bo DVD’s are ancient ;) Hopefully you can get back into strength training. Just promise yourself that you are going to do it for one week. After that it will probably be easier to continue. It’s always hard to get back into it after taking time off because your never at the same place you left off at. it can get depressing, but hopefully you’ll use it as a reality check and motivation.
Do you split lower body and upper body up into different days? I would recommend doing them both on the same day, it will be more beneficial to you.
My plan originally was to do them separately, which is why I’ve done lower but not upper body. But Tuesday I decided to do them both on the same day, my only problem then was that I didn’t have the weights I needed. I thought we had them at my house but I was wrong so I’m going to have to go get the right ones.
Holy crap, your write-up is great! If you ever want to offer blog design services, let me know. I’m a web/graphic designer and you obviously know your way around the computer. We could be lethal. DUNDUNDUN. Wordpress for life.

Thanks! Haha!! We could possibly do that. I know quite a bit about the technical stuff and SEO… not so much about how to make things pretty. I try but never quite achieve what I want, nor do I really want to chase those skills.
You’ve hit on a lot of good points here. Exercising when you can’t join a gym or don’t have the right equipment. But as you know you can always get creative and work around any obstacles! I know I have had to do that a lot over the years.
I too think that keeping up with your progress via tracking is so important. That’s exactly why I weigh every day because it’s easy to let things slip. Believe me – I have had it happen.
I hope that you have a great holiday season!

Is tae bo the same thing as kickboxing?
At least you’re getting a lot of walking in! Once upon a time, yrs and yrs ago, I had a car… then I had to get rid of it. I soon noticed how much fitter I looked/felt, just from having to walk more! (This was before I worked out at all…I was against working out and gym lol. And drank like a fish. And ate horrible stuff. And the walking STILL managed to help. It was also when I lived in a suburbsy area).

Yeah I think it’s pretty much the same as cardio kickboxing. And I totally know what you mean about walking. When I lived abroad I drank like crazy and ate whatever but lost weight because I walked everywhere!
Maybe you could find your way to doing some push-ups or tricep dips for upper body? Planks? Bridges?
Sparkpeople has some good home/office workouts that don’t require any weights or special equipment. They’re available on YouTube.
I’m just sayin’. :)
At least you’re still getting plenty of walking in! That’s very good.

Mary,
Again, you have been writing just for me! It is so hard to stay motivated on your own. I start the week off all strong but my follow through sucks. You are getting so much walking in and that is something! enjoy your new reality and keep moving!

Well, you know what? My parents’ DVD player hates my 30 Day Shred DVD so I have to play it on my laptop when I’m at their house. I guess those fitness program DVDs are a little picky, huh?
I am doing Tae Bo at the gym twice a week and it is super tough but I love it! So I hope you enjoy it too. If you don’t want to wait, quite a few of Tae Bo videos are up on YouTube as well.

They are tricky! And I think you are a genius! I didn’t even think of looking up workout videos on YouTube! That’s brilliant! I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it considering I put up videos of workout related stuff. Hehe. Ifeel silly and I still think you are a genius! … The taebo in a gym sounds awesome. I really am excited to get in a gym and do kickboxing or boxing eventually!
man I recall CLEARLY when the blanks first emerged on the scene in the mid 90s.

Mary,
You should definitely try mixing the upper and lower body in the same workouts. If you get a few pair of dumbbells and a stability ball, there are about a million workouts you can do. If you need any help getting that set up let me know, I’d be glad to.

I love TaeBo! It’s incredibly tough and rewarding. I used to go to public classes held at the local high school – only $1 per class! – but when I moved out of state, I was unable to find anything I could afford on my college-student budget. Still miss it. Good luck!

Lately exercise has been a challenge for me on my off gym days. I mean we go to spin class 3x a week plus I do cardio before that and then I do the Whittle My Middle challenge every day but lately (like yesterday!), I just had so much to do I didn’t fit exercise in. Don’t like when I do that.
Great stuff on the weight loss blogging. I really enjoy mine and have lots of plans for 2010. I only have one blog but between hubby and I we have many websites. I love working from home!
I have a Taebo workout but haven’t done it in years. Not sure what I think about it because I had to give up kickboxing due to knee issues and hope to get back to it one day. I really loved Turbo Jam (home workout) and Turbo Kick (fitness class) but it did a doozy on my knees and doc ordered me to stay away phooey!
Oh and I post my workouts every Sunday but got away from posting my weekly Wednesday weigh in’s. I didn’t want to focus on the scale but I might get back to that to get on track. Inch loss motives me the most so I want to make it a priority to take measurements every month.
Wishing you Happy Holidays and a great week. Kev and I are off to Jamaica soon, a much needed vacation!
