Weekly Weigh In: Small Steps

in Weight Loss

Woohoo the week has ended and it’s almost time to start a new one. How was your week?

I had a great weekend, including time with my friend Ryan, Mexican food, Christmas cookies *teeheehee*, Christmas shopping that went well, late night workouts and phone calls from Kepa! It was a good weekend and I’m happy to spend another nice weekend here at home in Memphis. Soon the holidays will be over and I will be traveling all over the place – first to Gatlinburg and then to New Zealand!  January is going to be a beyond crazy month for me.  I’m going to be so busy!  I’m pretty busy now writing posts that I will publish while I’m busy having fun on vacation then (I’ll also post some with pics of the beautiful places too!).

WEEKLY WORKOUTS

I’ve been walking a few times a week with my mom to help her get in shape for our trip to Gatlinburg in January for her birthday.  She wanted to be able to walk more and be healthier for the trip so I’ve enjoyed walking a couple time a week with her.  It has actually forced me to get out and walk, because honestly some days I just don’t want to do go outside in the cold.

Saturday December 19:

1 hour strength training – upper body, lower body, abs

Friday December 18:

1 hour walking walking (2.5 miles)

Thursday December 17:

1 hour walking (2.5 miles)

Wednesday December 16:

1 hour strength training – upper body (weights) then lower body conditioning (no weights)

20 minutes walking (1 mile)

Tuesday December 15:

20 minutes walking (1 mile)

Monday December 14:

20 minutes – walked/was pulled by our pit bull Tyson around the track once. hardest workout in weeks, started with me stepping off the track into some mud and then being pulled into the air when Tyson made a break for it and on my back in the mud at the end of it all. Hilarious, but I ended up dirty.

15 minute boxing – punches, cross punches, hooks, and uppercuts, hardcore!

Feels like it was not a ton of activity this week.  That coupled with the less than perfect food choices right before weighing in, kinda make sense for the results I had this week…

WEEKLY WEIGH IN

Well, well, here it goes! What you really wanted to know:

Current Weight: 217.8
Previous Weight: 218.4
Weight loss: -0.6
Starting Weight: 251
Weight loss total: -33.2

Hey, hey!  I lost .6 lbs!  Hehe.  Sometimes I read blogs where this happens and the person seems so down on himself or herself.  It is so depressing.  I see this number and I jump for joy.  I didn’t gain weight!  I lost some!  I am still headed in the right direction toward my goals!  Hurray!  Oh, and this is considering that last week I lost 4 freaking pounds! As far as I can tell, this is the only way to look at a weigh in (if you do them) where you don’t lose a lot of weight.  Beating yourself up over it isn’t going to get you anywhere.

I wrote a guest post for my buddy John Is Fit today about small steps and how they add up over time as long as they are in the right direction and building on each other to move you in the right direction.  I didn’t know how appropriate that post would be for my weigh in today, but it totally fits and reminds me that the small steps, though they don’t seem like they are much at the time, actually add up to great progress over time.

I’m happy with my small steps and slow and steady progress.  ;)

Have fun in Gatlinburg. We went last June. Lots of stuff to do there! :) Besides the mountains and shopping, my kids loved the go carts in Pigeon Forge. I must say that my husband and I laughed so hard racing the kids around course. It really made our vacation. I hope you have a great one too.

Your comment made me definitely think about how I should be celebrating just BEING FIT as much as losing any weight. So thanks!

Way to go on the weight loss!! ANY amount down is an amount in the right direction! Good job on getting out there with mama! You’re giving her the best present ever. :))

18 Andrea@WellnessNotes December 21, 2009 at 9:30 am

Great job! And great attitude! You are so right, it’s all about moving in the right direction. And I really think slow and steady is best… When I lost weight, it was VERY slowly, and when I compared myself to others (which I know isn’t a good thing), I would sometimes almost get discouraged. But it worked in the long run. You are doing awesome! :)

Have a great week!

19 Mary December 21, 2009 at 12:23 pm

The comparison trap can get us all at times. We just have to stop that because everyone is different and we have our own journeys we have to take. I might not lose weight as fast as other people but that is okay because it is a good speed for me!

20 Mallory December 21, 2009 at 9:56 am

Awesome work! Slower IS better, you know that you’re living a healthier lifestyle that you can keep up forever, rather than just being ‘on a diet’ when it’s a slow loss.

Majorly jealous of the travelling….

GREAT WORK! A loss is a loss & you have the attitude! Good for you! I am all on board with small steps lead to amazing things.. it may be a slower pace but it still works! :-)

I’m happy with small steps too because I’m a slow loser. 1 lbs a week is something I’m happy about. And losing slow keeps it often better off than fast losing.

You’ve had a great week concerning your workouts. I’m proud of you.

And great things to look forward too!

I would love to go walking with my mom! Anyway, even on your ‘not-so-active’ weeks you still are way more active than tons of people (often than me!) so I think that would count more than a number on a scale, which fluctuates anyway. Mmm u had christmas cookies…hmm maybe I should make some later..
