Saturday Randomness: You’re Fat, I’m Working Out, and Success Stories

by Mary on January 2, 2010

in Thoughts

Ah, back to normal!  Hurray!  I feel much better now.  My friend Ryan was texting me yesterday making fun of the fact that I wrote about my hangover on a health related blog.  I told him that of course I am going to write about that, because I want to be real about my journey.  I’m trying to lose weight, yeah, but I’m not depriving myself of normal activities – which sometimes includes drinking and sometimes includes fatty food and sometimes includes other “unhealthy” behaviors.  For the most part I am eating clean and trying to keep the workouts going.  But I do allow myself to do other things, and I’m not going to hide that.  If you are more strict about your plan and your weight loss efforts – good for you.  That’s just not how I do things.

And now… for some randomness for this Saturday!

THIS IS WHY YOU’RE FAT

Sometime in the next month or two I’m going to be posting a series about the reasons why I became obese.  Those posts will look at real reasons like disordered eating and lack of consistent exercise.  But today I’m just being silly about things.  I think we all know why we have a little extra junk in the trunk, and if you don’t then you should visit the websites that tell us why we are fat. Or go and buy the book of junk food p*rn goodness.

(Or if you are serious, check out Jackie Warner’s book This Is Why You’re Fat.)

NEW STRENGTH WORKOUTS

I started new workouts this week.  Well, I actually started them on Thursday, Dec 31.  Great time to start a new strength workout plan I think!  Except that because I was feeling terrible yesterday I forgot to do any stretching so today I’m extra sore.  I think my legs might fall off from just stretching them.  Ouch. Ooooowwww.  Remind me never to forget my stretching.  It’s just torture.

But I actually am pretty excited about the new routine.  It’s nothing special, just something I picked out of OXYGEN magazine, since they are always putting full strength routines in their magazines.  I needed something different because I’m so tired of the crap from GMFR.   Now I’m actually forcing myself to do all the squats, lunges, etc. that are part of the workout.  It even included side lunges which I’ve never done before.  We will see how long I keep this up, but honestly it didn’t hurt my knees like I thought it would.  I had to do a couple of adjustments to the workout for that to happen, but for the most part it wasn’t bad.  I will try to post the workouts I’ve been doing with exercises and reps and all instead of just saying “upper body” so you get a better idea of what I’ve been doing.  So…. Yay strength training!  I’m going to be strong soon, I promise.

WEIGHT LOSS SUCCESS STORIES

So, I’m going to start doing weight loss success story interviews again!  I did quite a few in 2009, and I want to show even more in 2010.  I think it’s great to show off success and I know it totally motivates me to see other people who have already done it.  I like to know that things are possible.  I have a few people in mind already, but if you are a success story or know someone who is, then please let me know!  Also, check out the ones I’ve already interviewed on the weight loss success story page.

I’m trying to get organized up in here, with pages and all! I know I have a category for it, but I like for things to be available all on the same page, plus the category includes other stuff and ongoing stories.  So the page won’t.  Send me suggestions for more success stories!

HAPPY JANUARY SECOND!

Hope you all have a great day!! :)

Happy New Year, Mary! Way to go on the strength training! Please keep sharing your experiences in that area on the blog—that’s one area I currently fall short in but would love to improve on. I’m also totally stoked that you’ll be doing more weight-loss success interviews!

Okay Mary, that sandwich picture is so not funny! Back in the day I could have eaten that and enjoyed every single bite!

Yikes, really? I gotta be honest, there has never been a point in my life where I would have eaten that. Maybe a smaller version, but not that. Haha.

Happy New Year! I so agree with you about not depriving yourself. I’ve lost 107 lbs so far and that’s included one high cal day (today for us) per week. If we didn’t, this would never work for us. Your new strength workout sounds great. We’re going to start incorporating ChaLean Extreme in too so this must be the year for women getting stronger baby! Enjoy kickin’ butt! You and Kepa should come up with a workout while you’re in NZ. That way when you’re home again you can agree on a time and do your workout “together.” Man, I’m a sappy one, am I not? :-)))

Awww, hehe. You are sappy but I like it.

You’ve done a really great job so far! You sound like a success story yourself! Hehe. I think the one high calorie day a week thing is a good idea and works for many people. And it’s fun! ;)

If you’re lying on your blog, you aren’t worrying anyone but yourself.

I drank a bit more than usual too.

I’ve enjoyed your blog for a while now and just wanted to say Happy New Year! Keep on doing what you’re doing and I know you will get where you want to go:o) Good luck with the strength training – I too am trying to work more of that in to my routine.
Hope to read some more success stories as I have enjoyed the ones you have put up so far.

Again Happy New Year and best of luck in getting your goals accomplished this year. (btw – I am so jealous that you are going to New Zealand! it’s on my must visit list)

Love that you tell it like it is….great stuff in Oxygen. I’m loving The Eat Clean Diet cookbooks by Oxygen’s Tosca Reno. Recipes are easy and don’t require a ton of weird ingredients.

thanks for being real! i think that’s important; if we expect perfection then one mistake ruins the whole effort. if we allow ourselves to make less productive decisions sometimes, forgive ourselves and move on, then the ongoing effort can continue, even if temporarily delayed.

I love the idea of showcasing the success stories of others on your blog. And I also love how thisiswhyyourefat.com makes me hungry and grossed out at the same time. I don’t know what to make of that, haha.

Ooh that website was making me hungry… and I’m not even a bacon fan, but that sandwich looks good (I’d probably get sick after a couple bites, but whatever lol). I was just wondering if all the squats and lunges would hurt your knees, then you said not in the next sentence. Good job reading my mind. What is GMFR?

Yeah I guess I did the squats and lunges right so they didn’t work. The reverse lunges hurt though so I didn’t do those, I just held the position.

GMFR is Green Mountain at Fox Run. I get lazy typing sometimes. Haha.
