I’m not sure what to talk about.
Because all I can think about is the fact that tomorrow I am leaving for New Zealand.
Tomorrow.
A day in Australia.
A month in New Zealand.
Crazy, right?
It’s hard to think about anything else when this is about to happen. It’s hard to think about writing about anything else on this blog because this blog is the reason I am going. It is the reason I met Kepa and part of the reason why we fell in love and it’s the place I can’t help but talking about going to New Zealand, even though it has less to do with weight loss more to do with living boldly and doing what I want with my life.
When I started this blog I wasn’t sure what it was going to become. I didn’t know that I would be blogging about trying to lose weight or about trying to figure out how to have positive body image and stop emotional eating. I had all of these problems I needed to work out but I never ever dreamed I would publicly write about trying to fix them all. I never knew I would write about my quest to make my life the best it could be and in the process maybe inspire some other people to do the same.
In a way I must have wanted this to happen. The very name of my blog – A Merry Life - foreshadows this process. Merry stands for happy but also (in my mind) wonderful, amazing. It stands for the kind of life I always wanted, even when I was caught in the darkness of weight gain, verbal abuse, depression – things that no longer have a place in my life but still left their mark on me. It represented a way out of what had been my past and a way to have a great future.
When I started I don’t think I really believed anything would happen. Registering a domain name with a dream of things you want is a lot different than actually writing and making things happen. Since the beginning I’ve seen cool things happen because of the blog. I’m not the most popular blogger, but several hundred of you have subscribed and cheer me on. I’ve been given a great opportunity (at Green Mountain) based on my blogging. I’ve met amazing people who I now call friends and one who gets the title of boyfriend. This blog has really helped me change and mold my life into what I want it to be. Crazy thought, but it’s true.
I’m still not at a place where I can say everything is perfect. And I probably never will be. There will always be something to work on and I’ve still got a long way to go with my health. But life is good. And this blog has been a big part of making that happen. And so have you. Thank you for reading and watching my journey!
The next step is New Zealand. It’s going to be a fun month – there will be exercise and beaches and all sorts of good things. I will be blogging while I am there and taking lots of pictures for everyone to see.
But for the next few days I’m going to be traveling without internet and actually going to stop blogging. In the next few days there will be guest posts! I have only had one guest post on my blog before, but these are really cool people, so be nice to them. Give them a little comment love and consideration. I will get back to you in a few days once I am in New Zealand!

How does someone afford 3 months at a fat camp, a vacation in Washington and a month long trip to NZ all while having no job? Jesus wept. No wonder the terrorists hate us.
Well, the “fat camp” was actually a job. I worked for them. And I didn’t take a vacation in Washington? Are you referring to Gatlinburg? Which is in my home state? And not expensive? And as for NZ… ever heard of saving money when you work? Yeah, magical concept. You can work for a while and then do cool things. It’s okay if you are jealous, but just so you know… I do work. Thanks.

I think the reason I started reading your blog is because someone followfriday’d you on twitter maybe and I saw your name amerrylife and liked it then started reading your blog. Or something like that anyway. The biggest reason I liked the name of your blog is because merri is my nickname (for merredith) and ive always liked things such as the saying “eat, drink and be merry” because of it. I like that people want to be me lol. (j/k) Ive really enjoyed reading your blog so far and ive never met you but I do picture you as a very smiley merry person, always so positive even when you’re down.
