Candy, Support, and a Blogger Meet Up.

Yesterday was a fabulous day.  It ended in a perfect way – at Point View, overlooking the night lights of the city.  I LOVE cities at night and found the spot to be the perfect nature spot with a beautiful view.

Today was a lot more relaxed.  Basically we didn’t do much at all.  Went shopping for things to make guacamole and pizza tomorrow and watched some movies and such.  Nice chill kind of day.  Makes me think of what it would be like if *gasp* I were to live here.  (Not exactly because I’d be working during the day, but still, partly-sorta-close if I imagine the non-working hours of my days.)

FOOD!!  YES, I’M A COOKIE CANDY SUGAR MONSTER.

Yesterday I actually walked two miles for a more or less proper workout.  It makes me feel better to think about this when I remember that today I ate half a huge cookie and a candy bar.  It’s funny that at home I NEVER buy candy bars and never have a desire to.  It’s just not something I eat.  But here they have different ones so of course I want to try all the things I’ve never had before – candy bars included.  Tonight’s experience was a Crunchie and I also had some of Kepa’s Picnic.  Two candy bars down, a few to go.  Don’t ask me why I feel the need to know what these all taste like, but I do.  (Or if you ask me I’ll tell you it is because I have a sweet tooth and am a cookie candy sugar monster, om nom nom.)

YOU GET ME.  YOU REALLY GET ME.

I have to say, it’s been nice to have someone around who gets the issues I have with food and such.  I guess none of my family and friends ever had the same problems and they definitely didn’t talk about it with me if they did. So having Kepa around to discuss stuff with seems like it will be really helpful.  Support leads to success, or so they say, which in my case means I will keep on being successful. At the very least I won’t feel like no one gets what I’m struggling with.  That’s why I started blogging about all this weight loss stuff in the first place – it felt like no one I knew got what I was trying to do and why it was harder for me to do it.  That’s why I keep blogging and why I appreciate all the comments and emails and discussions in every form that I have with people online about this stuff.  I need to be understood to be supported to be successful, so it’s nice to know that y’all get me.

AUCKLAND HEALTHY LIVING (OR WHATEVER) BLOGGER MEETUP.

As it turns out, Kepa is not the only person I’ve met through blogging that lives in New Zealand.  There are actually a few more (AndrewENZ, Marshmallow, Gemfit) in the area that I’m planning to meet this Saturday.  We are going to have a blogger meetup in Auckland this Saturday at 2 oclock pm.  If you are another kiwi blogger or happen to be on this side of the world like I am, let me know and you can come too!  It’s going to be a freaking good time.  I’m super excited to meet a few more bloggers that I’ve been reading for a while.  Of course we will take pictures and you can see all the cool people that live over here.

WRAPPING IT UP.

So that’s it for now.  All my posts are a mix of things lately… I mean… candy, support, and a meet up?  Really?  It’s a crazy mix of things.  But they are important things… especially the element of support.  Not only from those closest to you but from new friends and online sources (a la bloggers).  Without support none of us would make it very far at all, so make sure you give others support as often as you recieve it or even more.

Sorry, that was a silly comment. I’m really glad you enjoyed Point View. I hope our pizza is nice tomorrow! And that we finally get to make guacamole!

You did great on your walk! You should have mentioned you ran some as well!

I’m glad I can support you. I like being there for you. And I know you have a huge support base on here too.

I hope we have fun at the blogger meetup! Or should I say, I hope I don’t ruin it :D

Goodnight <3

I love that you’ve found a support system. Finding “your people” as I call it is such a great way to stay on track!

Have a blast at that blogger meet up! xo

I’d agree with you that blogging is a great tool for losing weight It helps you put down your thoughts and habits on “paper,” where you can see things more clearly and you can step back from your problems. And the support you get from fellow bloggers is also a great help.

Mary, that view is stunning! All these wonderful experiences & Kepa to share them with & to help support & understand you. Life is good for you! Very exciting about the upcoming meet. You will take pics, right? Now that was a stupid question! :-)

Keep enjoying!

I’m with you, I’d try every candybar at least once.

Have fun at the blogger meet up! So cool to meet people that you’ve been following and kind of feel connected to in a family sort of way.

I’m so happy for you, Mary! That sounds wonderful.

Have you ever read “The Amazing Adventures of Dietgirl”? Shauna says the exact same thing about feeling it’s necessary to try all the new candy bars when she travels. I feel similarly about going somewhere and NEEDING to taste all the new cuisine :D

That blogger meet-up is going to be tons of fun, can’t wait to hear about it!

9 Mary January 20, 2010 at 10:57 pm

I haven’t read it yet. Kepa has a copy I’m going to read, maybe while I’m here. I love trying new candy bars and new foods when I travel. It’s so much fun!

I am loving your recent posts…and just oh so happy for you and Kepa :-)

15 Kate January 20, 2010 at 2:35 pm

I’m in Christchurch but if I was in Auckland, I would have loved the meet up! Glad you’re enjoying your New Zealand trip. We live in a beautiful country :)

16 Gemfit January 20, 2010 at 3:20 pm

I’m SO psyched to meet everyone on Saturday! If it ends up raining, I MAY try drag the Boy along as well since cricket will be off but if not, I’ll at least get a ride in :P

He’s exactly the same when it comes to the candy bars when we’re travelling. When we were in the States, he bought SO much candy that we ended up taking bites from a few and leaving the rest because we were over it (at least I was!).

I’m glad you’re having a great time :)

17 merri January 20, 2010 at 7:00 pm

I am not a candy person at all, unless it’s something sugary like peeps. But I love things like cookies. Or desserty stuff. :) I do think if I were in another country, like you are, that I might try things I might not eat here, just because theyre automatically special. Glad, as always, that you’re having such a wonderful time! And do nothing much days can sometimes be the best ones.

18 Mary January 20, 2010 at 11:04 pm

Haha, I’m trying desserts too. I had this sweet thing for lunch and it was delicious. So it’s not just candy bars… it’s everything. Uh oh, this could be a problem.

19 Beth (Mackattack) January 20, 2010 at 8:14 pm

Oh gosh, it sounds like you guys are having such a fabulous time! I’m so glad that you have this time together :)

20 'Drea January 20, 2010 at 11:29 pm

That’s a very nice Point View picture; I would totally frame it.

21 JayLoss January 21, 2010 at 2:22 am

Well, cookies are good every once in awhile. I wouldn’t dare touch them though. :p

Wish there was a Texas meet up. :)

22 Miz January 21, 2010 at 4:43 am

23 Mary January 21, 2010 at 6:10 am

There will be plenty of pictures taken for you, I promise!!

24 Jack Sh*t January 21, 2010 at 9:14 am

I was going to try to make the blogger meetup on Saturday. I even went so far as to MapQuest driving directions. It turns out that I’m not going to be able to make it after all (my daughter Pisa has her banjo lessons). Give everyone there my love…
