Walking Around Lake Taupo

It’s been a long, wonderful, tiring day today.

Kepa DrivingWe set out this morning a bit after 8 am on a ROAD TRIP! That’s right, we are on a little adventure right now. ;)   Currently we are at Lake Taupo, and in a couple days we will head to Rotorua.  Road TripThe drive here this morning was quite lovely.  It was a nice taste of what the rest of the North Island outside of Auckland looks like.  Lots of trees, hills, mountains, and sheep.  There were the loads of sheep I’ve been looking for since I got here!  I finally saw them! We also stopped off for a tour of the gloworm caves, but couldn’t take any pictures there.  It’s something you should see for yourself anyway.

Beyond the fascinating sheep dotted landscapes and caves covered in glowing bugs, the rest of the drive was just really pretty.

Lake TaupoAs is Lake Taupo. It’s a gorgeous place. We have a fantastic view from our little place on the beach here. We are also two seconds away from the walking path that follows the lake and connects where we are to the town where all the shops and food exists.

This afternoon after we arrived here we decided to walk the path into town for dinner.  Ah, lovely decision.  It turned out to be a beautiful day and a great time to walk.  And of course a great picture taking opportunity:

You have to love exercise when you have gorgeous views and weather. It makes it all so much nicer – especially when you have to think about other things besides your hurting knees (I’ve got old lady knees!).  It’s about a two mile walk into town, so with the walk there and back and all we did there we walked somewhere between 4 and 5 miles.  It was enough to make me tired, possibly because I’ve been off the consistent-hard-cardio-exercise train for a couple weeks it seems. After this trip I’ve gotta get serious about exercise again, for reals.

As we were walking back the sun was setting, creating a beautiful scene to stroll back.

Lake Taupo

Walking is SOO much better with views like this!  Wouldn’t you say?

I did! I’ve been told several times, hehe. And then Kepa started talking about lava and such and I tune it out. ;)

I’d totally agree with you, compared to exercising in the gym there is nothing that compares to the great outdoors….and in some ways it doesn’t even feel like you’re exercising.

I’m always keener to exercise when I can forget that I’m exercising! Walking in pretty places, dancing, playing. You’re not looking at a clock or counting down at all.

I hope the weather holds out for you and you keep getting the beautiful weather on this trip!

Awww, thanks Whitney. That means a lot to me. I don’t think of myself as inspiring since there are so many people out there better at all this than I am. But thanks. ;)

And yeah, we’ve got an awesome story.

NZ is so BEAUTIFUL! I love that first cloud photo!! So did the glowworms end up looking wormy or just pretty? Could you tell they were worms? I’ve been down in caves before on tours and they were beautiful. That photo of the 2 of you is cute! How warm is it over there? I’m jealous, because it’s been raining for almost 2 weeks here, and is very CHILLY in san francisco! And that last photo is awesome.
