What Can I Say? Life Is Awesome

by Mary on January 26, 2010

in New Zealand

After a cloudy rainy day yesterday, which turned out to be fun despite the weather, the sky is finally blue here.  Too bad we are leaving Lake Taupo today.  But the vacation continues as we hit up Rotorua.  Yeaaaaah!!  That is happening in a few hours, but I wanted to blog really quickly since I forgot yesterday.

A couple things first: I added my life list to this blog.  I don’t know why I didn’t do that before, but yeah. I’ve been writing a lot more about doing awesome things and living life to the fullest, as well as weight loss, so I figured I might as well incorporate that too.  So it’s up and ever changing as I learn of new things I want to try.  Feel free to suggest cool ideas I might not have thought of.

Thank you for all the comments on my post about bungy jumping. It was a crazy, scary, exhilarating experience. It’s the best thing I’ve done since I’ve been on this vacation and probably will keep that spot on my list even though we are going to do a lot of other great things.

And we have done some other cool things.  Like kayaking!!

And going see a nearby mountain (this picture is taken in there “desert” hehe):

And eating a lot of good food. I’ve been making good choices – in the fact that all my food is delicious.  Has any of it been healthy?  Has any of it been good “weight loss” food?  No.  Not even close.  But it has been sooo yummy. I’ve even ordered desserts a few times – shared with Kepa – which is something I haven’t done in a long time.  My sweety sweet tooth is overly satisfied right now.  And considering the amount of pasta and cheese I’ve consumed… well, I won’t say I’m worried about weighing in at the end of this trip, but I’m not expecting super great numbers.

But what are vacations for, right?  A little fun, a little indulgence.  It’s all good for a week of enjoyment.  I’m going to start walk/running again when we get back to Auckland, and I even have a super cool related project to that.  So stay tuned for those details because it will be very exciting.  I might also need a little encouragement (or nagging) regarding the chug-a-long running that will be happening then, because even though I’m excited I know I have a tendency to start then stop the running adventures.  But this healthy living train isn’t derailing or crashing, it just took a little detour to vacation land, where food abounds and, of course, every night ends with a gorgeous sunset… even when it’s cloudy.

All in all I’m having a great time.  It feels almost like this is unreal and most definitely like I don’t deserve any of it.  I’m incredibly lucky to have such an opportunity and to be spending it with such a special person. Life is pretty awesome.

Sounds like you’re having an amazing time! I’m totally on board with vacation indulgences because I don’t think those are the ones that get you into trouble. I strongly feel that you shouldn’t pass up anything you REALLY want and can’t buy in a store. You don’t have to go crazy and eat three portions, but it’s totally worth it to enjoy it moderately.

Very good point. It’s not like I eat like this all the time and it’s not like I will continue. And yeah, passing up good stuff on a vacation is NO fun.

What amazing pictures & sounds like the trip of a lifetime but listening to you, you will make more of them!!!

Everyone out there, pay attention to Mary!!!! She is living life! I am not saying you can’t do this when you are older but when you are young, go for it. It is harder when one is older because we don’t have time to make up money issues & other responsibilities that can get in the way.

I can’t wait to hear more of your upcoming project!

And Mary, YOU DO DESERVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like you are having a blast Mary, so happy for you. Don’t stress weighing in sounds like you are being really active, on my vacation last year I ate non diet food and still lost due to all the extra activity and general happiness :)
Still think bungee jumping is crazy, but congrats on doing it and crossing things off your life list, living life to the fullest and not waiting until all the weight is off to do it are admirable and inspirational, thank you.

I’m trying. It’s freaking hard, he doesn’t smile for cameras, even though he does smile a lot.

Your photos are just so BEAUTIFUL every single day! NZ looks so amazing! Its totally somewhere I never even thought of before you went. I love the purple kayaks. Purple’s one of my favorite colors (as I sit here typing this in my purple dress lol). I think you’re being really healthy… doing all these amazing things that make you happy is healthy, and you’re getting a lot of exercise in weird ways (bungee cord jumping must raise your whole system up just getting up the gumption to do it lol), being with someone you care about is very healthy, and trying new, different, and yummy foods cant be bad for you. I tend to accidentally eat LESS on vacations, but I love being somewhere new where I can eat/do/see out of the box.

You could submit your blog to NZ dept of tourism. I’m sure these photos would encourage alot of people to make the trip. While I don’t have your views every day, I’m enjoying “vacationing” through you! Your blog @ trying something new, take risks encouraged me yesterday so many thanks. I’ve started running @ lunch w/my 2 co-workers (see my blog @ Girls on the Run). Yesterday one of them will turn 50 in 5 months. She asked / challenged us (yep, she’s a marine) to run a 1/2 marathon with her ON her 50th bday. Before I knew what hit me, I uttered “I’m in”! All this blogging has helped me to realize that we are all alike and others are doing these things so why not me? thanks Mary and continued safe travels.
