Just to be clear – I’m still in New Zealand for two more weeks.
I’m just not on “vacation.”
I make a clear distinction between being somewhere different than where I normally live and being on vacation. Last week, Kepa and I were on vacation. We ate and did whatever we wanted because it was fun and we were on vacation. Now I’m in Auckland, New Zealand, where he lives for another two weeks. And the vacation part of my trip is over. So never fear people, I’m not leaving New Zealand quite yet. (Already getting sad that I have to leave at all. It’s nice here!)
But that’s not the reason you came.
You probably came to see how I’m doing weight wise. At least that is why I’m posting today. Well, maybe say a few other things too, but let’s get right down to it, shall we?
This week I did no formal exercise. Walked quite a bit on certain days during the vacation but nothing I would scream off the mountaintops about. If you’ve read my posts about vacation eating and looked at the pictures from the last week you know it’s been a “bad” eating week, the kind of week that even led me to doubt my ability to lose weight at all. But on a different note? Totally delicious.
All that being said, this week I’m skipping the video because I’m tired, but here we go:
WEIGH IN: (can’t call it “weekly” anymore because I definitely skip weeks here and there)
Current Weight: 216 lbs
Previous Weight: 214.5 lbs
Weight loss: +1.5 lbs
Weight loss in Jan: - 3 lbs
Starting Weight: 251 lbs
Weight loss total: -35 lbs
Well there ya go. I only gained a pound and a half from the vacation and I’m still at 35 pounds lost. Not too bad at all, I’d say. My goal this week is to get rid of that. Which means I have to start exercising again and stop eating so much chocolate. Mmmm, chocolate. But really I’m starting to feel quite bad without some exercise induced endorphins. I’m really craving a good workout so I’m going to try and get a couple good ones in this week, probably by walk/running since not much else is available to me. I will let you know how that goes.
OTHER THINGS
A few blog changes you might want to know about (and if you don’t just skip this): I’ve started making reading lists of books that will help you out on the healthy living lifestyle. The first one is a reading list of Health At Every Size books. More good ones will come in the future. Also, I’ve changed the ways to keep my blog going via advertising and now am looking for companies or people wanting to advertise their products on this site. Other than that I don’t much to share and I miss our vacation already. I’m going to try to catch up on some blogs today, go shopping for things I need, and at least go for a walk. Good plan for the day!

Hey, maybe you did gain a bit but I made more note of the fact you “are feeling bad without some exercise induced endorphins”. That’s a good sign! Wish I could go on vacation and say I only gained a bit. You’re doing great!

That’s not a bad gain at all considering you were on vacay & eating whatever you wanted. You can definitely take it back off this week. I like the idea of having a list of Healthy @ Every Size books. I’ll have to check out the ones you have listed!

That was a great stat for minimal exercise and chocolate, to boot!! ;-) I find that “Love” is wonderful and the “Bliss” of it all can cause the pounds to increase if you arent careful!!! I really like your blog. Its very honest and real life. Jealous your in New Zeland and I hope you make the most of it. As far as your gain goes, I bet it is water. I bet it will go quick once your on track. The walking I bet evened it out. That is a really long flight from the USA. So good luck that. Thanks for the nice comment on my car on my blog. Well, for as much fun as you had last week I wouldn’t say that a 1.5lb gain is all that bad- you’ll get it off in no time!

I went on a cruise on the Oasis of the Seas (the largest cruise ship) for 10 days. I ate like a pig, but did not gain weight because of all the walking I did on the ship. The bad news is after I got home, I just ate and relaxed because I was so worn out for 4 days. I put on my vacation weight after vacation was over!

Not bad! I mean… I thought I was going to gain a pound just drooling over all of those amazing food photos! This just goes to show you how naturally active you were walking around to all of those places. The fact that you guys were going all over the place, mini golfing, etc., may not have been a traditional workout but certainly was a good calorie burner throughout the week.
You have your head on straight! I love that! I’m glad you guys took time to just enjoy yourselves and now you’re back on track!

You did okay for eating what you wanted for a couple of weeks, that’s not really as much weight gain as I thought it would be from reading your posts about all the desserts and such.
A 1.5 gain is very modest for vacation. Especially combined with back pain.

1.5 pounds gained during vacation is a victory in my book! I’m glad you were able to get activity in, eat what you wanted, and enjoy your time away from the daily grind while keeping your overall goals in mind.
Good job! I think all of those crazy things you did certainly counted as some sort of exercise. Stuff like kayaking is absolutely exercise. I know what you mean though…when I don’t work out for a few days I start feeling really blah. Gym withdrawal? What a great blog layout you have, and great advertising page.
