There was a brief period of time yesterday where this blog ceased to exist. Sort of.
I accidentally deleted EVERYTHING I’ve ever done on the internet because I’m a silly girl who wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing. The funny thing is, despite all the other blogs and sites I’ve created, this is the only one I cared about. (It is also the only one I regularly backup, so it wasn’t really lost.) When I thought I lost a month of posts, my entire time in New Zealand, I was heartbroken. But as you can tell, all is well and the blog is back up. (THANK GOODNESS! This is why I reccommend Hostmonster for hosting your blog – They saved me!)
Beyond that little scary event, yesterday was great.
We went to Kelly Tarlton’s Antartic Encounter & Underwater World where we saw some penguins, sting rays, sharks, squid, and fish. It was pretty entertaining, we got to watch sharks and fish and sting rays eat, and I love penguins!
Fun stuff!
I ate okay… there was a brief encounter of with a bag of chips that I split with Kepa (yay sharing!). Dinner had less potatoes and more green beans, since Andrew was correct in this advice via this comment. Yay more greens! Boo less potatoes! But unfortunately my body doesn’t react as nicely to potatoes and such. And I’ve already eaten enough potatoe wedges and french fries in my first two weeks here to last me a while.
Also, I finally did some exercise. Barely. I got on the stationary bike for a couple minutes. It’s hard to force myself to do as it’s incredibly boring. While we were watching a recording of the Grammys, I got on for 5 minutes, then another 5, then 10. Not great but it adds up to 20 minutes of “exercise” on top of all the walking we did naturally during the day.
I know it’s not a lot, but I’m going to aim for just 20 minutes of proper exercise every day while I’m still here. When I get home to America (sad face) I’ll kick up the workouts because I won’t have anything else I want to do, and my friend Candace is jumping at the bit wanting to workout together. That will be fun. But for now? Just 20 minutes. Back to the beginning basically. It’s funny how at different times in life I can devote 3 hours to exercise and other times can barely squeeze 20 minutes in. No matter what you just do what you can, when you can. As long as I’m moving toward the goal, it’s all good.

The important thing is that you’re conscious of your decisions. You’ve taken a break of sorts but you’ve made the decision to do it. As long as you keep being honest with yourself and really evaluate where you’re at on a regular basis you’ll get to those goals for sure.
Yeah…. Breaks are fun. ;)
A couple of weeks ago, I lost my blog, but I found it under the sofa (I think the dog might have been gnawing on it).
Glad you’re having a good time.

I think your dog came and grabbed mine and chewed it and then took it away.
I think you’re doing great. You’re on vacation – a long vacation – and you’re handling things nicely, not falling into denial and staying active.
How much longer do you have in New Zealand? The penguins look like a lot of fun.

Definitely a long vacation. But an awesome one! I have around two weeks left here in New Zealand. ;)
I’ll restrict my commenting on food choices to once a week. :)

Hostmonster. Hmm that looks cool ill check that out. Yes I remember seeing your tweet at 3something in the morning. (I realize I should not be still up at 3 something in the morning when I have to wake up at 7something for work. Grr being a night owl). I would be very sad to lose all my blog content. Mines not backed up anywhere just on blogger. I saw penguins at the monterey bay aquarium in december, here in CA. that exhibit wasn’t so great though. There is a better penguin exhibit in sea world in SD, where I’m going later this month (yay excited lol). Mmm green beans. My roomie isnt a fan, & esp as he usually cooks our dinners, I never really have those. I love exercise but sometimes 20 min is all you have time to do. I always want to go to the gym after work but once in a while I think well what am I missing out on by doing this? And sometimes I have to judge that its more worthwhile to do something else, like quality time with friends or family or something. And you’re doing other important things. :)

Yeah if you ever want to switch to self hosted I recommend them. I was freaking out when I thought I lost the blog! Ahh!!
You are totally right – sometimes there are things more important than working out.
You are so right about having a service that backs up your blog regularly. That must have been a scary moment.
I saw a pic of you on Andrew’s blog – you look wonderful!!!

We went to the kelly Tarltons encounter when we were there – the kids loved that penguin ride.
Any excersize is better than none – you are on vacation after all :)

They are! I LOVE them! I like watching them waddle around. Soooo awkward on land… but then so amazingly graceful in water.
awww love the aquarium pics! and yay for saving your blog… whew! and last but not least, yay for exercise :)

I’m glad to see you’re enjoying your time and still reminding yourself to get those 20 mins of excersize in per day. That’s truly admirable, because once I’m having fun the thought of actually attempting to excersize flies out of my mind. Your blog’s so inspiring for young readers like me! Thank you!
I have missed the gym since Christmas when I broke my arm, so like you, I feel I have to start again, just when I was beginning to make progress too. I’m determined to stay positive though, but being home all day does not help my eating choices.
being home all day can be the worst! Can you get out a bit? I find just a little break getting out of the at home evnironment can help.
Once you start again you will go back to making progress.
Thank you for your sweet comment about Lulu. She seems to be much better today. I am glad you are having such fun adventures! The bungee jumping looked amazing! Shooting for 20 minutes a day is great -it all adds up.

I think Im most proud of you for NOT exercising hours a day.
for living
for realizing that there will be a later when you can kick it up beyond 20 min but now other more important things call.
sad face for sure :(

It is so hard to exercise on vacation, especially when you are some where as interesting as you are! I have great respect for you to even find the time and motivation for 20 minutes!

Sometimes I think it would be cool to be an animal like a penguine. What is the most popular penguine? The HUGE emporer penguine! in the animal world, bigger is better. In the human world, the opposite is true….Glad your having fun and that you recovered the blog. After reading last night I quickly rememberd to back mine up too. So thanks for that!

I wouldn’t worry about the 5 minutes exercise here and there. It all counts and even if it only seems like baby steps, it still means you’re going in the right direction.

Hi, Penguins are so fun! I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person.
BTW, I’ve been following your blog for a while (I’m a former GM’er), and have been hoping to go to NZ some day, so I’m living vicariously thru your travels. The main reason I want to go is cuz of all the wonderful hiking! I’m hoping you’ll get a chance to do some more there (MUCH more fun than the gym) – here’s a site to find places nearby – http://www.trampingtracks.co.nz/ . Thanks for keeping up your blog! It’s great to read.
I love watching the Penguins too. I was at the Omaha zoo this past summer and they had penguins like in your picture, and also the tunnel like you have pictured. Very cool! Great job on the workout! Anything is better than nothing!

That’s a scary thing to have happen to your blog! I’m glad to hear you were able to get it all back relatively easily, but another thing I would recommend is taking your backups into your own hands. With WordPress, this is very simple. There a handy dandy plugin I use, that you can setup to do automatic backups of your WordPress database on a daily or weekly basis: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-db-backup/

Love all the underwater sights cuz I’m such a sea junkie! You’re right to enjoy your time while you’re there. Glad your bloggie is back up; I love reading your updates.
I have that thought process too whenever I’m presented with such yummy treats like brownies. As long as you keep fighting, you’ll be okay. That sammie looks really delicious, though.
