Ice Cream and Weight Loss

If you don’t follow my new food blog, let me tell you a secret.

I’ve eaten ice cream every day this week.

Remember how I said that now I’m in Auckland at Kepa’s house I would eat healthier?  That has only partly happened.  For most meals we’ve eaten really healthy, tasty food.  Some days I’ve been way under what I normally would eat.  This has leaved a little wiggle room … and I’ve filled part of it with ice cream.

Why?  Doesn’t that put me further away from the goal?  Well, maybe.  Maybe not.  We will see tomorrow when I weigh in.  But it was fun.  And I enjoyed it.  And Kepa enjoyed it (see picture below of us before eating/drinking a Mega Choc Shake).

Yay! Mega Choc Shake! Feb 6

I’m under the impression that you can still lose weight while enjoying your favorite foods.  That’s how I’ve lost the first 35 lbs and how I plan on continuing the process.  Maybe not enjoying them EVERY DAY, like I have been this week, but there is definitely a time and place for the foods you like. Perhaps you won’t lose weight as fast, but that’s not my goal either.  Quick weight loss?  Nah.  I’d rather have enjoyable weight loss. Wouldn’t you?

AUCKLAND IS COOL

If you’ve never been to Auckland, New Zealand, let me tell you – it’s  a cool city.  There is water everywhere and there is GREEN everywhere.  Look at this awesome place in the middle of the city.

Park in Auckland

Those trees blew my mind.  I love them.  We walked through this and around the city during the day yesterday.  It’s quite a walk, as there are some very hilly parts.  But it’s always worth it because if you get high enough you have awesome views.

FIT BLOGGIN!!!

I’m starting to get really excited about going to FitBloggin in March.  Seriously, really excited.  I can’t wait to meet so many of you guys!  I’m also currently making plans for BIG THINGS happening on the blog for around that time.  It’s going to be an exciting week at the end of March, so I hope you are looking forward to it as much as I am!  (That’s all I can say right now. Hehe.) By the way, who all is going to FitBloggin?  Who am I going to see there?

Other people may love the tree, I loved that mega choc shake! Hehe. As you can see. I could have had that all to myself :D Mega choc shakes are so delicious. Gah! And I loved the burrito, and the quesadilla! And Avatar was pretty sweet :)

I love you most of all, though. Way sweeter than all those things combined. <3

I’m so excited!! That’s going to be a fun weekend!

7 Jenn @ Watch My Butt Shrink! February 6, 2010 at 7:32 pm

LOL, I love Kepa’s face in that pic!

I totally agree with you that we should be able to eat the things we love in moderation. I mean, if we’re doing this FOR LIFE, then we have to be able to eat the things we enjoy, right?

I’m going to Fitbloggin’!! I’m so excited – I’ve never been to a blogger’s conference before, and I’m stoked to meet some of the great people that I’ve been reading for so long!

Yes! Things we love should be part of our life – food included.

You are going? Sweet! I must have missed your name somewhere. Glad I asked. I’ve only been to one conference before… but this one will be better since it’s all of us healthy living peeps.

My nightly treat is a Kemps icecream cup! Low fat icecream about 300 calories. I eat my 1500 good calories during the day and use my last 300 to get me to my daily goals. Again calories in and calories out. I do get my vegtables though.

300 calories for low fat ice cream? That seems like a lot but maybe it’s just me.

Glad you eat and enjoy it though! As long as you sneak in some veggies too it’s all good.

Kepa looks like catty when she is ready to jump on something. That ice cream must be sooooo good.
Those trees are so different, over here they look like that when they are blown down, it looks like they grow that way, and are those like stakes holding them up off the walk, it is hard to tell in the picture.
The walking is the best exercise anyway, that is why your weigh in is going to be good. You are having so much fun you don’t even know you are exercising more than you think.
End of March Huh? Sounds like something big! I am excited!!
Love Mom

Hahaha. That’s the funniest comment ever. I miss that evil cat!

Yeah the tree grows that way and it has poles holding up the branches from the ground. Kepa says it is that way because of the skyscrapers… they grow toward the light in between the tall buildings. Cool, eh?

I’m glad you are excited. ;)

I’d take the mega choc shake over the tree too!

Those things are lethal though. I have maybe one a year and savour it.

The tree is pretty but the milkshake looks way better. See you @ FitBloggin. I’ll be there too. Think they’ll have milkshakes there?!!!!

If they don’t I’ll set up shop and make some. It will make me really popular. ;)

This past week I followed the fried-chicken-wine-pizza-and-chocolate-cake diet, and lost more pounds than I did in the last three weeks of celery-beans-and-rice. Sometimes it’s good to confuse the body with a little ‘naughty’ behavior.
That’s my story, anyway:)

I totally agree with you, you’ve gotta indulge sometimes. If you just totally put everything good off limits, you’re probably going to go crazy. Yes, you might lose weight faster, but you’re not going to enjoy yourself doing it. I’ve been trying to continue enjoying the foods that I used to, just not quite as regularly, and in smaller portions when I do have them.

It looks like it’s working great for you so far, keep it up!

I’d agree with you on the point about eating some of your of your favorite foods, where people fall down on this is controlling portion sizes.

Also, are you sure you’re not working as a tourist rep for New Zealand the more I see and hear the pictures and stories, the more I’d love to visit it :)

Wish I was going to Fitbloggin, but sadly, I’ll be stuck in the frozen wasteland…ice cream looks good! Love Kepa’s face!

That is a thick shake! And a cute photo of kepa! I am not a super duper ice cream fan myself, but it is kinda healthy. It has a lot of calcium, and sometimes fruit. :) or antioxidents if its chocolate. Actually the milkshakes up the street at the burger place are pretty thick and tasty. I think eating should be enjoyable, and if youre stressed about it, it will be less healthy overall. I probably shouldn’t comment, because im not trying to lose weight, but I find for me, eating things that taste good and make me feel happy make my eating thoughts be overall healthier. If I’m sitting there thinking I shoudlnt eat this, its “bad” then I end up obsessing and its totally unhealthy. A healthy diet is well rounded and includes things like ice cream/desserts. But that’s just my opinion. Feel free to ignore it if it doesn’t work for anyone.
Ooh I want to go climbing in that tree!

I love ice cream and I’m ashamed to admit I’ve been eating it everyday starting last week. It helps relieve stress for me, which I know isn’t such a good excuse, but I can’t help not giving in to a little indulgence. :D

23 Mark February 12, 2010 at 5:31 pm

I love the look of New Zealand, my aunt just emmigrated there and I will hopefully follow soon. As for ice cream and weightloss, I suppose some icecreams not eaten in excess and avoiding fatty ice creams like Ben and Gerryns could work if you adjust your other meals accordingly.
