HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY

Technically Valentine’s Day was yesterday for me.  It was probably my best Valentine’s Day ever.  Ok, it was.  We had a freaking awesome day.  Kepa hit his weight loss goal of 220 lbs (100kg).  (So go congratulate him on losing 285.4 lbs!  And watch his video!)  It’s astonishing to think he lost one of me, plus some.  I don’t think I will ever complain about how hard losing weight is.  I’m inspired.

We went out to eat Mexican food last night, which was awesome and you can see all the good things I ate here.  Kepa gave me a cute heart Valentine’s Day card.  And then he gave me a really cool present – a photo album for all my pictures I’ve taken during my time here.

Valentine's Day Gift

Originally I thought the box was paper to print my photos… I was wrong.  It was full of pics he had already printed out.  Which was awesome!  I always take a ton of photos but rarely ever print them out.  Having someone do it for me was a great gift.

WEIGH IN STATS

Current Weight: 212.8
Previous Weight: 214 lbs
Weight loss: -1.2 lbs
Weight loss in Feb: -3.2 lbs
Starting Weight: 251 lbs
Weight loss total: -38.2 lbs

THOUGHTS ON SUGAR AND SUCH

1.2 lbs is a decent loss!  I’ll take it!  I’m inching up onto that 40 lbs lost mark, which I will hopefully hit this month.  I’m all about the slow and steady weight loss apparently… so I’ll get there eventually.

I added sugar back into the diet yesterday after not eating any extra/added sugar all week.  I might have gone a little bit overboard with it as well… was there really any need to have two desserts last night?  Even if we split them?  Probably not.  The desserts were delicious and I enjoyed them, but in the end it was to much and I had a slight stomachache from all the sugar.  My cravings for sweets had stopped about mid week so the only thing forcing me to eat the stuff last night was the fact that I hadn’t had any and was curious about how it would affect me.  Plus I had told myself I would be eating it on Valentine’s Day so I figured I would do it and enjoy it.  I did but I’m contemplating giving up sugar for a longer period now, once I get home.

That’s it for me.  Good week.  Interesting week.  Awesome week.  I go home to Memphis on Wednesday… sadly.  But I’ve got two more days here so I’m going to go enjoy them. ;)

Great that you had a loss. Sad about only 2 more days! But I have this feeling we’ll be seeing you again. :)

Congrats to your husband! You both are doing monumentally well!

About fefined sugar, it’s best to just save it for special occassions, but you’ll find that after you haven’t had it for a long time, it’ll make you sick and turn you off of it. I know that I need to keep away from refined sugar, because I have trouble turning flipping the “off” switch. Once I do, I’m fine, but getting to that point is often hard for me.

Hehe. Just my boyfriend for now.

I have the same reaction with coke, which is why I don’t drink it at all any more. I know I could do the same thing with refined sugar, just not sure if I want to.

I hadn’t eaten sugar (in a dessert/candy/cookie sense) in ages and about a month ago I indulged and ate a piece of cheesecake. It was delicious but I was seriously sick most of the night. Funny how our bodies get used to things and don’t like drastic change. That’s probably a big reason people have such a hard time staying on a weight loss eating regimen at first because it literally shocks our bodies. We’re not used to eating the kinds of foods that help with losing weight. And oh yeah, Kepa is a stud.

I went on one date with this girl on saturday, and I’m thinking of seeing if she is free on valentine’s day or should I just tell her happy valentine’s day, or anything else?

:-( on having to leave Kepa but what wonderful memories you made while there!!! Such an exciting thing to do & time in your life. Make the most of it.. and as I have said before, Mary, you are amazing & show people that life is to be lived! Some of us learn that a little later than we should!

Congrats on that loss & same goes to Kepa too! Amazing!

It’s totally true that if we deprive ourselves, it’s not going to do much good. That’s why I like “phasing in” the healthy stuff… doing things SLOWLY helps the body to adjust. It’s funny how that works. Some things, like cheesecake, I could NEVER give up (and wouldn’t want to!). Other things, like Coke, I just don’t enjoy anymore. So it’s kind of neat: once we listen to our bodies we can indulge without going crazy overboard. I like that.

And CONGRATS TO KEPA! That accent kills me. It’s awesome.

Hehe. That’s the thing…I know I could give up sugar… but I don’t want to. Mmm, cheesecake.

24 Mary Lutz February 15, 2010 at 9:16 am

Congrats on the weight loss!!! 1.2 is awesome!!! I know it doesn’t seem like much, and I struggle with wanting bigger losses too, but I’ll take what I get and have just come to realize slow and steady is better for us anyway, and we’re more likely to keep it off :)

Congrats to Kepa too :) I’m inspired!!!!

Well done, Mary! Both on the loss and for getting that sugar monster in its proper place!

Safe travels home!

26 Stephanie February 15, 2010 at 11:32 am

Giving up sugar is a great way to lose weight AND stabilize your moods. I find that if I can ride out the cravings for 3 or 4 days I am good to go.

27 Rachel February 15, 2010 at 11:57 am

Congrats on the loss. Any loss is a good loss — it all adds up ;) I’m glad you had an amazing Valentine’s Day! I wish someone would print all of my photographs for me and buy me a photo album. That’s such a thoughtful gift!

YAY!

AWWWWWWW, he printed the pics! How awesome! I just showed the video to my hubby (who doesn’t really read weight loss blogs but I’ve told him the jist about you guys) and he said “I hope they get married!” LOL No pressure, just repeating what the manus said!

Looks like the best V-day ever!

33 Jayloss February 16, 2010 at 11:12 pm

Not bad, keep it up.

I believe in moderation as well. I remember where I didn’t believe in that.. and whole large pizzas were not safe in my house. :)

Oh and my favorite would be Fritos and french onion dip!

Geez.. I’m getting hungry thinking about that now. :)

35 myyearwithout February 17, 2010 at 12:39 pm

Okay, so now I am following up with your more recent posts. I totally understand the indulgence after going without sugar. That’s what I’m afraid I will do (TWO desserts, please!) if I let myself get back on sugar. It’s easier to just keep it out of my diet…..

So, it sounds like you may begin Operation Sugarless again when you return home?

36 Mary February 17, 2010 at 1:18 pm

Yep that’s the plan! I actually just started when I got to LA. ;) I’m not even home yet but I’m off the sugar. Instead of getting dessert with lunch I got an apple. I think though that I might at first have either the weekends or just sunday as a day where I can have sweets and then maybe phase those out eventually, or not. I’m still not sure about that, but I know that weekdays will be sugarless.

37 merri February 17, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Yay congrats kepa! I will have to go watch his video, and yours, at some point. glad your vday was awesome! :)
