Weigh In: The Gain and Giveaway

by Mary on February 21, 2010

in Link Love & Giveaways,Weight Loss

It’s that time of week again… time to weigh in.  But this time?  This time I’ve got stuff to give away! :)

WEEKLY VIDEO

WEEKLY WEIGH IN STATS

Current Weight: 213.4
Previous Weight: 212.8 lbs
Weight loss: +0.6 lbs
Weight loss in Feb: -2.6 lbs
Starting Weight: 251 lbs
Weight loss total: -37.6 lbs

WEEKLY WORKOUTS

Since I’m home and joined a new gym, it’s time for me to start recording my workouts again.  You know, just because I like to remember I’ve actually done some hard work (or less hard) each week.

Friday 2/19: 30 minutes on the elliptical

Saturday 2/20: 20 minutes walking outside

THOUGHTS

Ah.  A gain.  Like I said in the video.  Oh well.  It happens.  My plan?  Continue the exercise and good eating!  We will see how far that can get me.  No need to give up after a gain.  But isn’t it interesting how easily you can lose motivation when the scale doesn’t say what you want it to?

THE GIVEAWAY

And now, for the pedometer giveaway.  Here is the pedometer on amazon, if you want to check it out further.  Three ways  to enter:

  1. Leave a comment telling me why you <3 walking with a pedometer.
  2. Tweet about it.  “  Hey… @amerrylife is giving away a pedometer!  I want to win! http://bit.ly/bdSUnF  “
  3. Link to this blog giveaway from your blog.  (This will give you two entries!!)

You can do one or you can do all three!  Each gets you some chances to win an awesome pedometer.   (Which, I bought myself, dear FTC!  No need to worry or contact me!)

The giveaway ends on Friday 2/26 and the winner will be randomly chosen, contacted, and announced Saturday 2/27. ;)  Good luck!

ALSO…

I forgot… go read Kepa’s post about coming to America!  Please!  Thanks!

pffft. what a tiny gain. the body in unpredictable sometimes.
don’t let it discourage you. go and kick some butt this week. frustrations are best worked out by dancing stupidly in your bedroom like no one is watching you.
do it up girl, it burns calories.
x
have a great week!!

I need the pedometer as I have this idea to pay myself for each 1000 steps I take. Need to measure that somehow!

That’s not really a gain -that’s a plateau! Maybe you retained more fluid that day, etc, so many little reasons. Don’t let it discourage you!!!! Keep up the amazing work :) x

0.6lbs is such a tiny amount – you’ll blast it away this week for sure. :)
I know what you mean about the scales not saying what you want them to!! In times of gains and plateaus you really need to have a ‘bigger picture’ perspective happening. (I am sloooowly learning that!)

as a side note – I’ve nominated you for a beautiful Blogger Award. All the details are over at my blog. :)

Aw thanks for the blogger award!

6 Shannon Fab Fattie February 21, 2010 at 3:22 pm

That is such a small amount of weight Mary I hope you realize it is really nothing. Especially with all that you have had going on this past week. Just breath deep and let it go.
You will lose that 100 pounds I KNOW IT!
FYI I have been looking for a pedometer, just so ya know.. hint hint!
I can’t link on my blog because of the current situation it would be possible that your giveaway would consist of umm… things you really don’t want to promote ;)
Will tweet though!
XO Chin up you are awesome and will so fly through the 100 pounds :)

7 Barbi February 21, 2010 at 3:27 pm

That is a tiny gain! That’s “I had some salty lunchmeat yesterday” weight. You’ll have a good loss next week!

A pedometer would be great. It would motivate me to move more I think.

8 'Drea February 21, 2010 at 3:51 pm

LOL about the lack of comments (on Twitter). You’re still in the minus column for the month of February. You’ve worked out and joined a gym. It’s all good. Keep on keepin’ on…

Hehe. It was just strange. Since it’s sunday and I have nothing else to do besides sit around on the internet I though no one liked me and my non losing self. ;)

10 Kellie February 21, 2010 at 5:40 pm

You are doing amazing though!

And even though the scale showed a gain, it could be something like water weight!

The elliptical is awesome, eh? It’s my favorite machine at the gym! :)

12 Jen of Losing the Shadow February 21, 2010 at 6:35 pm

I am fascinated by how many steps I take and seeing a number makes me walk more.
.-= Jen of Losing the Shadow´s last blog ..Good news! =-.

13 Kelly February 21, 2010 at 6:54 pm

I think I need to take MANY more steps than I currently take….maybe actually
seeing how little I move would help motivate me?

14 Joanne February 21, 2010 at 7:29 pm

I think a pedometer would add something new and also provide a bit of a challenge to everyday exercise.

15 Anna February 21, 2010 at 8:41 pm

You’re doing great, heck I’ve gained 10 pounds in a month (so hate the scale). I’m a totally stress eater n having a little girl with rare genetic condition called Williams Syndrome not to mention right side heart failure = lots of stress but working on the eating less part or at least healthier. It had to be so hard coming home, when I went to Australia I didn’t want to leave at all. I have a blog but not sure how to link yours to mine (love that when I clicked on the name of the pedometer you’re giving away took you to Amazon site – pretty cool trick) I stink at any kind of tech stuff. Gosh I’m chatty (rough day) anyway, I would love to win your awesome give away cause I’m a trying to keep a log (well I have been just not posting them yet) of my work-outs. I’m finding I’m a kind of girl that needs to plan things out and see what I’ve done or need to do.

I had a small gain this week, too. No big deal. Half a pound is nothing in the scheme of things, and your body weight shifts several pounds over the course of a day. I agree with you about the motivation, though. When that number goes down it is so much more motivating! Just goes to show you how much of a mental game weight loss really is.

18 Amy February 21, 2010 at 10:10 pm

I don’t have a pedometer, but I’d love one to really see how much I move all day… or how lazy I am!

19 AndrewENZ February 21, 2010 at 10:47 pm

Let’s hope he makes it eh!

A pedometer would actually show me that I am going ‘in the right direction’. A great motivator.

21 MsMc February 22, 2010 at 1:49 am

Every step matters – that’s why I’d love to use the pedometer.

22 DinosauRN February 22, 2010 at 6:18 am

It’s not a great reason, but a pedometer would help me feel less guilty about not working out when I’m working a 12-hour shift. It feels like I’m logging 18000 steps…

23 Jody - Fit at 52 February 22, 2010 at 7:04 am

That Kepa post is so friggin cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love it!!!

As for the weight, this too shall pass. Back to it & off it will come!

And the pedometer… well, I have no idea how many steps I take or calories I burn so I would love this & maybe I can cut back on my workouts & get much needed sleep! :-) I will still work oh so very hard but seeing that I might be able to cut off some of that cardio time.. hmmmmmm, interesting! If you rememeber my workout posts, I di a LOT of cardio!

25 Anonymous Fat Girl February 22, 2010 at 9:06 am

Yeah, I gained 0.6 exactly this week too. Even though it’s a small amount it still SUCKS. But one thing I think is great is what a wonderful friendship/love you struck up with Kepa. I love love stories and you guys are just too cute. Keep us posted on if he’s able to make it to America. :)

I think it is really special what Kepa is trying to do. Have you thought about moving there? Having dual citizen ship wouldn’t be too bad at all. Plus it is amazing there. Glad your in the gym as it will get your mind off certain things. I think it will be fun to work towards your goals to have him come to the USA….

Considering all the travelling and what air travel can do to a body (bloat you), you did FANTASTIC! You’re right back on track and still as inspirational as ever. Keep up the great work! We are all wired for success!

I love my pedometer. I used to use it daily; I don’t feel the need to anymore, but it’s such a great little device.

I had a gain this week too! And my week was pretty much flawless, stupid scale. I have never really used a pedometer, but think it would be interesting to see how many steps a day I log?!

Congrats on your weight loss! I’ve been thinking about getting a pedometer to see how much I walk each day – both for exercise and just in general. Thanks for the chance.

Don’t let the gain get you down, I’m sure the loss will come next week if you keep working towards it! As for the pedometer, I use the one on my phone and it’s so great for keeping me on the straight and narrow. I try to aim for 10,000 steps a day and i love being able to see how many calories I’ve burned, gives me a real boost to keep going! Best of luck for a good week ahead!

36 Jennifer Barr February 22, 2010 at 5:22 pm

I try to get in at least 10,000 steps a day so using a pedometer helps me know that i’ve met my goal for the day.

37 erica February 22, 2010 at 5:52 pm

I would love to win this so I can see what I am actually burning!!

I’m so sorry i didn’t comment on this earlier. I freaking miss you so much. It is so good to see you, and at the same time, it just reminds me of how far apart we are from each other.

You’ve been doing so great tracking your eating and going to the gym. Now training for a 5k. This is but a little blip.

I wish you were here.

I love you.

39 Brandie February 23, 2010 at 11:36 pm

Hello Miss Mary! Congrats on having just a .6 lb gain — good thing it wasn’t 6 lbs, huh? :) But seriously, you are doing fab and kicking my butt in the work out dept. I’m always so proud of you.

Soooo, I would love to win your pedometer and the reason why I love walking with a pedometer…well, I don’t know. I don’t have one. The one I bought was crappy and didn’t keep track of half of my steps so I gave up with it. I would love to have a good one so I could keep track of my daily steps.

Congrats on your weight loss so far! A week with a small increase is to be expected. I’ve been working on loosing weight since the new year (South Beach Supercharged – about 17 pounds down so far!) and like you I had a small bump up a couple of weeks ago, but the next week was a great week for weight loss, so there you go! Keep up the good work. So that’s why I would love this pedometer – to help keep me on track with my exercise! Good luck to you!

41 Julie L February 26, 2010 at 1:51 pm

First of all, kudos to you for losing 37 lbs. That is awesome :)

I would like a pedometer to see how many steps I actually to take a day

42 Trina February 26, 2010 at 11:12 pm

I would love this pedometer because I need to lose the last of the baby weight and if I could count my steps I could use it as a motivator, to beat my step count each day.
