Today has been a fun day. I spent some time with my good friend Hilary and really enjoyed it. But then when I got home all the light joy of the day came to a crashing halt. You know why?
Because apparently I’m running (at least partially) a 5k in a month. Less than a month, really. Who knew?
Last time I ran I managed less than a mile. And it wasn’t the most pleasant or fun thing I’ve ever done. So I’ve clearly got a long way to go. A long, long way to go.
But luckily I have a cool friend named Candace who bugs me about going to the gym.
Like today, when she sent me this text, roughly half an hour ago:
Gym in an hour?
Oh crap. She wants to go to the gym. I know I signed up and all, but really? I have to workout? Ah. I quickly run through possible excuses, realize I have none and reply “ok.” Guess I’m going to the gym in an hour. She replies:
Sweet. So excited. And you are gonna hate me. Just a warning.
Oh dear lord. I start to get nervous. I reply to ask why. She says:
Because we are doing training for a 5k. And it’s hard!
What? Does she read my blog? Does she know I want to run a 5k? Probabaly not. She is the runner girl I used to walk with who wanted to do 5ks together. She probably just thinks now that I’m back for a few months she can finally mold me into a jogger girl who will go to 5ks with her.
So in a little while I am off to the gym for some sort of workout. I have no idea what we are going to do or if I will be able to do it. All I know is that now I’m trying to get ready for the fitbloggin 5k. It’s a good distraction (as the many I have) from thinking about not being with Kepa.
Tomorrow I’ll let you know how the workout goes. If I survive, that is.
Let the running torture begin.

It takes no effort at all for me to eat healthy..but when it comes to exercise..forget! I find it impossible to motivate myself. But, you CAN do it. and so can I. It just takes a little (ok, alot) of willpower.
you got this! :)

I’m much better at exercise than eating healthy, usually. I like to eat. I like to eat the less than healthy stuff (aka sweeeeeets). But yeah… we can both do this. ;)
Good luck w/ the training program!!

You can do this! Just jump in with both feet and go for it! The first day’s always the hardest, but after you do it for even just a few days it will start to get easier.

I think that it is great that you ahve a friend to drag you to the gym. I bought a membership that starts in March and I am heavily relying on friends to get me there at the beginning.

You can do it! I know you can! Working out isn’t torture, it’s fun! Even though it seems like torture sometimes, you always feel better later. :)

Go, Mary! You can do it! Have you considered doing walk/run intervals? It’s what I’m doing to train for my half marathon, and it works really well for me.
That’s what we are doing. ;) I couldn’t just run straight… I’ve gotta work up to that! I need my walking intervals right now even if they are brief!
Good luck, will check back to see how it goes!!
YOU CAN DO IT!!!

5k sounds very hard but im sure you can do it! i prefer to work out by myself, but it definitely helps that a lot of my friends go to the gym, esp my roommate, because it makes it more expected and normal to do it, so even though theyre not working out physically with me, theyre still all helping to motivate me to stay fit.
did you get a real copywright through the copywright office?

No. But any creative work is generally considered copyrighted already, unless you say that it’s not. I think. I’m no expert in copyright law though.
Be careful…Racing is addicting. That’s why I’m training for a 10K in April.

Fun! Hope you’re not in too much pain after she’s finished with you, hehe. I’m contemplating running a race in June so I’ve been trying to convince people to be my running partners. Need to have the motivation of running with someone else!

5ks are always exciting, and nerve racking. It’s been a while since I thought of 5k’s as anything other than a warm up. But this brought back the excitement of lining up for that first one.
Just be warned. if that running bug bites you’ll find yourself saying things like “Sure we can go out tonight. It’s just a half marathon tomorrow” and “hmm, that 10k didn’t feel like far enough, maybe I should just do another lap”
Good luck with it.
I hear ya- keep up the good work though! I need motivation to go to the gym too, so you arent the only one!

pluto and I are most definitely bringing up the rear there…unless he has scr*wed me and decided to actually train.
It’s so cool you have such an enthusiastic gym buddy. I love that you let us in on your text conversation. I could almost feel Candace’s enthusiasm in her texts.
Good luck training for your 5K. It’s a great goal. I’m not much of a runner, but I’m sure the accomplishment would feel awesome.

Torture it may seem at first, but once your systems gets accustomed, it will be part of your healthy habit. Nothing is impossible for a determined spirit. :-)
Good luck on training and prepping for that 5k! Last run I ever did was a 3k and I was pooped and sore by the time it was over.
