Big Things Are Coming!

by Mary on March 12, 2010

in Merriness,Thoughts

Today is Friday and I want to share some BIG things coming up with you all.  Mostly I’m doing this because sometimes I need a reminder of the good things that are going to happen.  Sometimes I feel stuck here (currently I have no transportation) and forget that I’m waiting and working toward big things in the future.  Some days it feels like I’m only thinking about food and weight and doing more exercise.  I like the routine and I appreciate how it is going to help me get closer to my end goals for weight loss, but sometimes I forget that other things are coming up in the future.  So I’m going to write them all here and share with you the greatness to come (mostly so I remember it all myself).

Contests and Good Things

CONTESTS

If you haven’t entered to win a $50 shopping spree from iherb.com, then go leave a comment to enter.  You can buy quite a bit of stuff with $50.

Next week I will be giving away another $50 from another cool company.  So if you don’t win the first giveaway you will get another chance to win.

I love giving stuff away!  I hate that I can’t give everyone something, but at least one lucky person gets it.  There will be a couple more awesome giveaways in April because it’s my birthday month!  I love giving stuff more than I like getting it.

FITBLOGGIN

I’m pretty dang excited about Fitbloggin.  It’s one week from the day I arrive and it all gets started.  The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the walk/run thing in the morning.  I’m almost 100% sure I am going to just walk the 1 mile.  I’ve been doing pretty well with my walk/run stuff but I don’t want to push it.  I tried to do that the other day and ended up with shin splints and it’s not worth it to create some deadline I’m not ready for.  So if I’m awake I’ll probably be walking if anyone else wants to walk with me?  Other than that part I’m super excited about Fitbloggin.  How could I not be?  It’s a conference of bloggers talking about healthy living blogging – which is my niche and passion and I love it!  I’m so excited to see old friends and meet some new ones. I get in at 2:12 pm on Friday, so let me know how to connect and meet up with everyone.

HEALTH BLOGGING EBOOK

I’ve mentioned it a few times and I’m still working on it, but it needs to be mentioned here because it is most definitely a BIG thing.  So far it’s 35 pages full of useful content. ;) It turns out after more than two years of weight loss blogging that I’ve got a lot of knowledge and information to share. It’s a bigger project than I thought it would be but I always want to make things the best they can be.  I don’t like doing big projects halfway.  So while I originally I wanted to release it next week, I’ve changed the release date until after Fitbloggin so I’m not rushing things and making it as good as it possibly can be.  Also, if I manage to learn anything new at Fitbloggin I can include it in the ebook!  Great plan, yes?  The new release date is Tuesday, March 30. Exciting, right?  It is exciting!

Kepa + Mary [358/365]

KEPA AND MARY’S USA ROADTRIP

If you read Kepa’s blog then you know that he just bought his plane ticket to come here, funded by his (and my) awesome readers.  Just like I had always wanted to visit New Zealand, Kepa has always wanted to visit America.  He is coming July 9th and I’m meeting him in LA to roadtrip across to Jacksonville, Florida then back to Memphis.  He wants to see as much of the US as possible and I have never driven across the entire US in one shot.  So we are doing a cross country roadtrip with stops in Vegas, Texas, New Orleans, Florida, Atlanta, and probably more.  Could that be any cooler?  I doubt it.  I’m looking forward to this and to being with Kepa again (that more than anything).  We are couchsurfing/staying with friends to keep the cost of the trip down, so if any of you are in those cities or along the way and want two awesome guests (or if you just live in the cities and want to meet up for coffee), let us now.   I’ll write more about the trip as it gets closer, but I just need to remind myself now that although I’m not doing anything exciting right now I will be doing it in a few months.

Beach on Waiheke Island

MARY MOVES TO NEW ZEALAND

Yep.  I’m moving to New Zealand.  I made the decision a while ago, possibly when I was in New Zealand sitting on a beach, that I was going to move there, at least for a while.  So I’m going to go on a working holiday visa and work some random jobs and live closer to Kepa.  Since I’m soon to be 24, I figure I might as well go now and try it out.  I’m honestly pretty excited about it all.  I know New Zealand isn’t perfect and I’ll have bad times and it will be hard, but I think it will be worth it.

OMG, I’m going to move to New Zealand.

Crazy?  Not crazy?  I’m not sure.  BIG decision?  Yes.  BIG experience? Yes.

So when is this big awesome crazy thing happening?  I don’t know.  I’m currently saving money but I’m only working sporadically (hurray non transportation having starting out freelancer!) so I have no idea how to know when I’ll have money for visas and tickets and moving.  I think I will put up a donation button for anyone who wants to help get me there sooner, but no pressure.  You all already are bringing Kepa to the US and I thank you a million times for that.  But if you do want to help, it will be there.  You can also buy my ebook when it’s ready (then you actually get something of value!) to help make it a reality.

But yes, the goal is to move to New Zealand by the end of 2010.  Talk about this being a crazy awesome year.

WRAPPING IT UP

When I started writing my blog and it turned into a weight loss blog, I never realized that I would be headed in this direction.  To be honest, I kind of fell into everything and never ever could have expected all of these things.  It’s crazy how life will take you in awesome directions when you let it.  Big things are coming up, so make sure you stick around for it all.  Subscribe by RSS or subscribe by email and follow along. ;)

Dude, that’s awesome! I had similar anxieties when I moved across the country to Washington D.C. for no other reason than to expand my career. It’s an intense emotional battle but I’m SOOOOO glad I did it! You’re amazing!

I can’t wait to meet you in person!

LOL. We are so awesome with our cute accent boyfriends. I’m planning on doing something not totally similar but close… moving to New Zealand and then moving again later. But not with the short time schedule you have!

Thanks.

I love when things start to come together all at once and you realize that it is going to work out. A few things:

1. I’m ready for the e-book. I understand about not doing it halfway…but we’re all ready for it.

2. New Zealand Move — jealous.

3. Fitbloggin — sounds awesome.

4. Morning workouts — not jealous.

Glad things are looking up for you. Keep the posts coming.

Sorry it’s not ready sooner. Family stuff kept me from working on it more and then with Fitbloggin coming up I just want to do one thing at a time. So post conference it will be time to rock and roll with the ebook.

Morning workouts aren’t my favorite. I like the night ones best, even though they keep me awake later.

The same thing happens to me. I get stuck in the drudgery of day to day and forget about anything fun or good coming up. Yay cant wait to read your ebook! And it looks like your fitblogging thing will be fun too! Yay im glad kepa got his ticket! That road trip sounds awesome! It doesn’t look like you’ll be getting to sf, and my apartment is super tiny so theres not really room for 2 people to stay but on the offchance if you guys happen to be in sf then let me know and we can meet up. Ive been to new orleans about 7 yrs ago it was fun. Very muggy my feet almost didn’t fit into my shoes but fun. (yay beads! Lol). WOW moving to NZ by the end of 2010 that’s so soon! I think it took me almost that long between when I decided to move from new england to san francisco to get everything organized and settled, and that’s an easier move than to another country.. I kinda figured you would end up moving there… what an amazing year you have lined up! :) (PS you can kinda tell I comment on blogs as I read them instead of reading them all the way through then commenting in one chunk).

It seems soon and too far away for the move. I want to be there now but there is a bunch of stuff to take care of first, so I’ve got to figure all that out. I don’t have a strict time set but I’m aiming for around September or so. Which in the grand scheme of things is pretty soon!

48 Jess March 12, 2010 at 7:31 pm

Couchsurfing! If you guys get out to DC after July, let me know. I’m not there right now so I can’t host but I’ve hosted a few people and used it loads when I was traveling. I love it. There’s another one called Hospitality Club, check it out.

Let me know how long you’ll be in LA. I’ll probably be around there for my birthday so I’d be down for some grub and drinks!

Congrats on these big life decisions. I’m so glad you’re moving to NZ because I think it’s important for everyone, especially Americans, to get out of their comfort zone and check out the rest of the world. It’s a big, beautiful place.

That rocks. You rock for saying it. Seriously, that made me laugh and it’s so true that’s what I’m trying to do. Thank you!

76 Shannon March 13, 2010 at 9:30 am

Oh my gosh Mary! I can’t believe how many cool things are coming your way YES!
Just so you know Utah is in between CA and FL if you get up this far and you are more than welcome to stay here! I would love to meet you two :)
Looking forward to your ebook and all the magic this year holds for you :)
XO

77 Mary March 13, 2010 at 10:16 am

Thanks Shannon. Where in Utah do you live? Since I’ve never been I might ask Kepa for a detour just so I can mark it off my list. ;)

78 Shannon March 13, 2010 at 8:42 pm

I live right in the center of Utah in a small town called Genola. About 1 hour south of Salt Lake City and 1 1/2 from Park City.
After talking to Foodie today I also live 3 hours north of the Biggest Loser ranch here in UT.
PLENTY to see hint hint ;)

79 Mary March 14, 2010 at 4:40 pm

Haha, ok, ok, I’ll look at a map and see if it’s a possibility. :)

80 Andrea@WellnessNotes March 13, 2010 at 9:34 am

I wish you were coming to Fitbloggin too!!

82 erin March 13, 2010 at 10:14 am

Wow, you have some exciting, amazing things on the horizon! That’s so awesome!

83 Mary March 13, 2010 at 10:18 am

Thanks! Are you still in Jackson? I’m going to take Kepa up there when he comes to see Union and all that… so if you are still around there then, let me know! Would love to see you!

84 Kim Maxwell March 13, 2010 at 10:56 am

Go for it! Moving to another country is awesome, and you don’t even have to learn another language! I moved to Sweden at the ripe old age of 47 and it has been great, even having to learn Swedish has been great fun. The most interesting part is stepping back from your own culture and seeing it from afar. Best of luck to you!

Yeah, I’m excited! My favorite part is not learning another language! When I lived in Austria learning German was hard! So already knowing the language will be nice. :)

86 tina March 13, 2010 at 12:14 pm

Go you! Such a big move will be much less scary with Kepa and his family to support you. Congratulations! Whenever I think about how you and Kepa are maintaining such a looooong distance relationship, I shut up and stop whining about the fact that my own manfriend of 2+ years lives almost an hour away. I’m very excited for all of this new ventures and adventures in your life. Yay!

87 Mary March 13, 2010 at 12:51 pm

Yeah, I’m so grateful to have them there to help me out with the move. It will be a lot easier to have a place to stay for a bit while I find my own place and job and all that. It’s a lot easier than moving completely on my own!

I would love to have Kepa an hour away… you are lucky! That’s really not that bad. So be grateful!

Thanks. I’m excited. :)

If you happen to take a side trip north to Chicago let us know. I’d love to take you guys out to dinner and show you around Chicago. It’s a great town with lots to do in the Summer.

Congrats again on the move to New Zealand, that’s exciting and is going to be so much fun. Maybe you can have a Fitbloggin New Zealand we can all attend ;)

Haha. Everyone is welcome to visit me in New Zealand. ;)

92 The Merry March 13, 2010 at 9:53 pm

Oh, you should drive up the coast of California, at least up to San Francisco :)

(Mind you, Oregon’s pretty nice too, but I concede it might be just a teensy bit out of the way.)

95 Mary March 14, 2010 at 3:30 pm

Yes it is! At least for a while. ;) That’s a huge increase in your population percentage wise. Haha. :D

Oh, you are going to love it. I did a trip in an RV rental. Great country. Really nice people and amazingly different landscapes. I am envious! I’m American, but have lived in Asia and Russia. You’ll end up loving it because it will get you out of a rut and give you so many new things to do, friends to make and so on.

Take me with you! lol

The decision to move to NZ for a while sounds great – like you said, you’re only young once, so why not. You’re not really tied down by anything at the moment, which makes it the perfect time to travel. Yay!
