Your Links And My Plans

FRIDAY FIVE

(I love sharing links with you guys. Hope some of them are useful!)

Anonymous Fat Girl wrote a great post about planning family dinners and how eating clean/organic/healthy isn’t actually more expensive. Go read about her experience breaking that particular myth.

Since my gym membership is no more *tear* and I’m not getting a new one, I’m on the lookout for easy at home workouts to get me through the next two months. I’ve got a lot of workout knowledge (seriously, I know things), but I like to shake it up when I’m forced to workout at home because I get so bored. Luckily my hero MizFit just posted an AllWhites workout video.

A lot of people have the issue of exercising but not losing weight. They might be losing inches as they stay the same weight. Here’s an interesting article from MSN about exercising but not losing pounds.

I’m a fan of weighing in daily (although lately it hasn’t been possible) and a study in 2005 found that a  daily weigh-in may help dieters lose . Of course, as with any study, take it with a grain of salt. Doesn’t work for everyone.  (This link brought to you by Brandon.)

My vegetarian blogging friend Matt is offering blogging coaching sessions for health bloggers who want to improve their blog. If I had more time I’d love to do something similar, but he is a great source for information about blogging if you want to take your blog to the next level. He is giving away ten free sessions, so go get one!

MY PLANS

Today I’m headed to Portland with Jessi because she has a photo shoot up there. I love Portland so I’m excited to go. I also get to stop by IKEA and wish I could buy things! How exciting is that?

Really though, being here is terribly exciting. I feel a lot more like myself, if that makes sense. I’ve got plans and things to do and I’m not just trying to get through my days, but really looking forward to them. The only thing that would make it better would be if Kepa was here. Then my life would be complete and perfect.  But for now it’s good enough. It’s going to get me through the next two-ish months of waiting for Kepa to arrive without any self-inflicted permanent damage to my mind or body.

And Jessi is the best. She borrowed her mom’s total gym and we are going to set that up to use and use some DVDs and stuff to workout with since I’m not getting a gym membership but need to exercise. I’ll be posting more about all of this later once I actually start doing it. At the very least I plan to walk a lot while I’m here and eat well. I think that minus the emotional eating I struggled with a lot at home will end up leading to a healthier me over the next few months. Perhaps I should call this period of life “Operation Get Sexified Before July.” You know, cause that’s pretty much my goal. Maybe it just needs a better name. Suggestions?

I’ve been thinking about it and I guess right now I live a pretty crazy life. I mean, who does what I do? I don’t know anyone personally who would just up and move across the country although I know there are people who have and will. It’s pretty fun to follow dreams and make your life better, even if that is slightly crazy.  I love it though and I’m excited about the next few months!

SERIOUSLY look into Jackie Warner’s Power Circuit DVD…you can do short, 15-min, targeted routines alone or custom OR do the whole 40-min circuit (good on weekends). I think if something is that short you are so much less likely to make excuses to NOT do it. And you feel awesome after.

I can make excuses for anything I have to do at home. I’m good about being able to find two hours to go to the gym, but I suck at doing 15 minutes at home. It’s amazing. I guess I just need the different environment. But I’m going to make this work!

3 Lois J. Thompson May 14, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Sweetie, I have no exercise advice, since I look to you for that, but this I will say. My friends here at work think you are just so wonderful, but Jannetta said don’t let anyone kill your spirit. You don’t fear, like who would just up and drive across the country, by themselves, Mary would, she said I never had a doubt who it was when I heard people talking about someone driving from Memphis to Oregon.
So that is what I say, people have tried to kill your spirit, but they failed, so live my daughter, live to the fullest.
Love Mom

Thanks Mom. :)

5 Debbie @ comfycozycrazy May 14, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I think you are super brave for doing what you feel is the right thing for you. It takes guts to drive across the country and start over.

I think Operation Sexification is gonna be fun to hear about. Best of luck!

It was a bit scary, but the scary things are always the ones that are the best!

Hehe, Operation Sexification sounds awesome and it’s a go!

I have the Total Gym at home and think it’s great. I haven’t used it lately because I can’t fit it in between Insanity, kickboxing, bootcamp, and Zumba right now but my teenage boys have been using it and they get a great workout with it.

I like “Operation Get Sexified”. Good luck :)

It sounds like Portland is already treating you well. Okay this might be silly but what about setting up dog walking services on craig’s list or something, you HAVE to walk then :P I’m kidding, sort of. With the nice weather there should be lots of opportunities to get out and move more.

Technically I’m in Salem, but I was in Portland yesterday, so yes it is!

I might actually do that. Turns out I really, really miss having a dog already. I LOVE dogs! We have a cat here but it doesn’t seem to love me very much.

Hehe, “Operation Get Sexified Before July”? But you’re already hella sexy, rockin it with your sexitude! ;P

Aaaaand maybe I should stop typing…

But I’m so glad you’re back to feeling like yourself. I wish I could be there too. Everyday I wish some freak gust of wind will pick me up and place me beside you.

I know you’ll be having great days all the way up till I get there. I hope I can help provide some more while I’m there, but I hope you’ll still want to come back to NZ with me :)

Haha. I think the name has already been changed to Operation Sexification. Just cause it’s shorter and rhymes.

Of course I’ll still want to come back to NZ!

Portland looks gorgeous, and so does the rest of Oregon! I cant wait to live on the west coast later this year. We’re so similar, both moving all over the place.

I hope you are having a fantastic time! :) I’m sure its great to be away from the unavoidable stress of being at home and feeling stuck.

Good luck with your weightloss/life/happiness in the next few months!

Hehe, my mom leaves nice comments. She is a really great support for me. :)

23 Rita @ The Giggly Bits May 14, 2010 at 9:05 pm

Glad you’re there and settled, that’s awesome.

I know one person like that, my sister in law. She flies by the seat of her pants, has an amazing tattoo up the entire back of her leg, that she designed herself, has graduated hair school, fine art school and randomly travels meeting people and working as she needs. She is now engaged to a gorgeous Italian guy she met while backpacking over there, all by herself, which she did on a whim, of course. Crazy similar that last part ;) But she’s incredible and my daughter’s FAVORITE auntie and I imagine you two to be very much the same.

Rock your life Mary!

I’ll be honest, I NEVER have had a gym membership! I run alot, do pilates at home or just get active out doors. It’s so liberating:)

Sounds like you’ve got an awesome attitude about the next few months. I can’t wait to hear about all your adventures!

That’s cool! I really like the gym for some reason. It’s just an environment that I enjoy. I also enjoy being active outside, so it’s not necessary to have a gym… I just like it.

Thanks! I’m excited about my adventures too!
