Yesterday I ended up not blogging (hurray) and instead took the time to some other things I enjoy. That ended up with me crafting and playing with felt which I turned into flowers and made myself a flower headband. Maybe not sexy, but definitely girly. I’m on my way people!
Thanks for all the great responses on the basics of Operation Sexification. It seems that quite a few of us could use a little sexification in our lives.
And with that in mind, today’s links are all related to the mission of Operation Sexification. Enjoy!
Friday Link Loveeeee:
On yesterday’s post someone anonymously left a link to a CNN article about Media sexy and how it’s slowly (sort of) changing. It mentions how for the last few decades sexy has been heralded as tall, thin, blond, and blue eyed. Obviously I’m not any of those things so it’s easy to understand why consuming media has left me with the idea that I am not/can not be sexy. The article talks about the Karashians and other reality stars how aren’t the typical body type in Hollywood (not that they are everyday normal either), so it seems like the ideal “sexy” is shifting and becoming more attainable. It’s interesting to read and I’ll delve more into the media sexy topic another time this month.
Feel Sexy In Your Skin – This article from Cosmpolitan is actually REALLY good about feeling sexier from the inside out. It has great tips for ditching the negative self-bashing, ending comparison, not reinforcing negative feedback, and faking it until you feel it. I’m definitely using some of the tips from this article.
In general the saying is “Confidence is sexy.” I think a lot of us struggle with self-confidence so it’s no wonder the sexy part doesn’t come naturally either. Here is a confidence boosting special that discusses confidence and gives a lot of specific tips on ways to feel more confident about yourself and your appearance.
If you aren’t feeling it still, go check out Operation Beautiful. It’s hard to link to any specific post because they are all filled with goodness. If you are ever discouraged about how you look head there and read a few notes – then make your own. Telling other people they are beautiful/gorgeous/sexy does a lot to make you feel that way too. Giving compliments (anonymously or not) is a great way to feel great yourself.
Hurray!
There ya have it! Short version today because I’m reading The Secret and hope to have it read to review tomorrow. I’ve put off reading it for a while but I’m pretty glad to finally figure out what the secret to life is. (A book can tell you? No way!) I’ll let you know how it goes tomorrow. I’m also off to go shopping at Trader Joes. I couldn’t be more excited about this fact. ;) Have a great Friday!

That headband is so cute! :)
I absolutely love Operation Beautiful! I carry a thing of post it notes and tag bathrooms everywhere I go. I’m all about spreading the love! :)
Can’t wait to hear your review of The Secret. I’ve always wanted to read it, but not sure if it is worth it. Guess I’ll soon know!
Thanks Brooke! :)
Operation Beautiful is great. I haven’t seen any notes out an about but if I do I know it will make me smile.
Love that headband…..
I had not seen that anonymous comment yesterday when I also mentioned that the sexy media thing hurt me growing up. I am on the run as well so I am comng back to read all these links!!!!!
I will have to say, not a fan of the Kardashians though.. not the bods, the people….. but you mentioned that in your post about them not being everyday people… to say the least! :-)

Thanks Jody! The comment was after you posted so that’s why you didn’t see it.
I’m pretty much indifferent to the Kardashians.
FYI, the first link is split in half (at least when I try to use it). First part of your text links to the cosmo article, then to the cnn.com thing I sent, but only on the words Media Sexy. And Jody, my first comment yesterday was about Media Sexy and I gave you credit. Then later in the day I found the cnn.com article and had to send it along since Mary’s response to your comment or my comment indicated she was thinking about Media Sexy and I thought it would be good food for thought for her. I agree that most American women would consider a Kardashian body to be highly desirable (even though it’s apparently not good enough to be Hollywood Beautiful), and it’s interesting how things might eventually change. Also interesting how reality tv is impacting things — seeing people without makeup, etc. But there’s obviously a long way to go. We’ve yet to see heavy or unattractive women do well in television or film, while for men their appearance doesn’t seem as important. Plenty of tv shows depict men that would generally be considered heavy or unattractive in relationships with women that would appear to be physically out of their league. That can lead to all kinds of thinking about the pay gap, differing standards for the sexes, etc.
Thanks for the note about the links. I got them fixed! I had the links in a different order and then when I changed them a html tag was still stuck on the first part of the link. Oopsie!
I agree that their continues to be a double standard in most tv shows and movies. The man doesn’t need to be attractive yet has a smoking woman but bigger or uglier women generally don’t have attractive mates if they have one at all. That has always bothered me. It’s not real to life at all. Hopefully that will continue to change as they bring in different body types.
Oh that’s what you did with the felt flowers. There are some girls here who always wear flowers in their hair. One group of friends, we call them the flower girls. I don’t think I could bring myself to be that girly..but it looks cute on you!

Haha. I don’t know if I want to be called a flower girl, but I kind of like the flowers in the hair thing (real or fake).

I also love the felt flowers. Maybe not sexy, but definitely girly and flirty!
I’m curious to know what you thought of The Secret. It actually helped me really shift the way that I think about things, and I try to follow a lot of the principles in there.
Hope you have a great weekend!
That headband does look cute on you, I’d never do it though :) I bookmarked the Cosmo and IVillage links. Have a great Friday…no blogging for me until next Tuesday! (Michigan trip with my fiance!)
Love your headband :)

Thanks so much for posting these links! Self-confidence is something I’ve been really struggling with lately. I’ve been trying hard to turn off the negative self-talk but it’s really hard! I’m definitely going to use the tips from these articles.
