Friday Links

in Link Love & Giveaways

It’s Friday! It’s Friday!

There are so many reasons why I have and always will love Friday. It’s just such an exciting day with the weekend right there beckoning you to quit work or school and come play. It’s filled with promise and even when you have tasks to complete that you hate, you still have that hope of the upcoming weekend. Hurray friday!

Friday is the day that I have decided to use to share some link love and give you a heads up to some good things to read out there. I spend a lot of time reading, so I figure I might as well put that to work and share!

I’ve also decided that I might name this little weekly event. Perhaps “Merry Go Round.” It’s a name I used in high school for a handwritten/drawn “newsletter” I gave my friends and I’ve always enjoyed it. Think it fits?

Friday Links of the Week

Jacq, aka Jacqueline Carly, aka Fitarella, is trying to get her own show on the Oprah network. She is amazing and totally deserves it, so go vote for her!

Something I found yesterday via Roni’s blog, is a new study claiming that the human brain naturally distorts body image. “Individuals have a conscious visual image of the body … but they also make subconscious misrepresentations of body image.”

Workout Mommy wrote about the thing I hate most about my body – how my knees crackle and make noise when I do things. She calls it “crepitus” and gave me a good reminder it’s not a reason not to do exercises! (It’s just annoying.)

As you know, I’m cutting most of the sugar out of my diet. But I’m not turning to sugar free foods (besides jam), and it turns out that’s a pretty good choice because foods that cut sugar aren’t necessarily a sweet choice (and may give you diarrhea). Win for real food!

Remember In Defense of Food? Well, here is a short defense of (some) processed foods.

It’s almost summer and a lot of us are working out outside running, walking, biking, etc. But remember your sunscreen! Skin cancer is no joke! You might be healthy and fit (or on your way) but you are still at risk for skin cancer.  Wear SPF 30 when you are out in the sun my friends!

This week on my other blog I documented everything that I own, which isn’t much. I’m a bit of a minimalist now and I can count all the personal items I own easily. Everything else is borrowed or rented (and replaceable). It was a fun project you might want to check out if you’d like to see pictures of everything I own. ;)

And that’s it for me.

Did you read anything amazing or inspiring this week?

Its amazing to see think how little we really do need in our lives?

I suppose when you think about it we came into this world with nothing and go out with nothing so in fact we don’t really own anything?

Also if you could only take 3 things with you onto a deserted island, what would you take with you?

Can I take people?

The “everything I own” post amazes me. My mom is just like that though. Owns very little, always on the go. I think I purposely rebelled, and I always own too much.

Ew diarrhea grossies. I’m so glad that minutes ago I rejected sugar free preserves for my recipe tonite for the full sugar kind. I will have to go over to your other other blog and see everything you own. LOL between reading your 3 blogs and your tweets I feel as if I know more about you than my own non internet friends and family. I don’t think I’ve read anything amazing or inspring this week, just the book I’ve been reading which is a historical adventure novel with lots of battles and fun, but nothing educational. :)

I have a few sugar free products and they have not caused that particular reaction. ;) Probably because I don’t eat much of them and generally opt just for natural sugars (fruit).

I think you might know more about me than some of my friends! I only have a couple people that read ALL of my blogs. I can count them on one hand (that I know of).

Oh wow, this is very interesting, my knees make that crackling noise when I bend and stretch them. It is painless, just a noise, I often wondered what caused it. It’s a worry the osteoarthritis bit though as my Mum has that so I am predisposed to getting it, I better start upping my calcium intake.

I have recently cut out sugar from my diet and I feel great. Well, I cut out refined sugar that is. It suggested using Stevia.

Now, I have no part in Stevia whatsoever. I have found it is a natural sweetner and goes good with anything.

Next habit to bust….caffeine.

Good story about sugar replacements. As you know, Pollan says if a food comes with a health claim, don’t buy it. Especially when it’s Oreo’s!

It’s hilarious how many terrible foods do have health claims.
