I’ve been a fan of Nerd Fitness for quite a while. It combines the things I love most – fitness and nerdiness!
To start off, let it be known that Steve sent me a deluxe copy of the Rebel Fitness Guide for free. That was totally awesome because I was planning to eventually buy it anyway based off the quality of his work on Nerd Fitness. I’ve been reading his blog for about a year now and find it to be knowledgeable and very useful.
Instead of rambling on about how good I thought it was I’m going to give you some pros & cons and a brief interview with Steve. (This post is longer than normal, so I hope you stick with me!)
Things I liked about the Rebel Fitness Guide:
- Great tips on how to succeed with both the food and fitness aspects of the program.
- Good diet philosophy. Mainly: eat REAL food. I’m a fan of anyone that tells people to eat real food instead of packaged things and “diet” options.
- Gives plenty of links throughout the ebooks to other resources and more information. If you are interested in reading more about any particular subject he points you to great resources without clogging up the guide’s flow.
- Great for beginners or intermediate level people who want a good workout focused on strength training with compound exercises and body weight exercises (the best stuff). Loooove the focus on weight training with mostly body weight exercises.
- Excel workout sheets to track your workouts.
- Since he sent me the deluxe version I got to listen to the interviews, one of which was with my friend Jess from Half of Jess!
- The price. It’s a good price for the information you receive.
Things I did not like about the Rebel Fitness Guide:
- Steve eats like a boy, which means he has about two meals he knows how to cook and he eats those every day. So if you are buying this book for recipes – look elsewhere. He does give sound nutrition advice and helps you understand nutrition labels and nutrients, but he doesn’t teach you how to make yummy food.
- There is a LOT of information. Instead of one ebook you get multiple e-books, multiple workout guides, links to videos of every exercise – it can almost be overwhelming. Luckily it’s planned out pretty well and you can guide yourself through easily, but just be warned that it’s packed with info that will take several days or weeks to work through.
- It’s not for the very, very advanced. For me not much of the nutrition/diet/lifestyle advice was not very helpful for me because I already know all of it. The workouts are definitely worth it once you get to the higher levels, but I would skip past the first few levels.
- The price. I consider the price both a pro and a con. For me the price is a good chunk of money which is why I wasn’t able to buy the guide immediately. It’s worth the price, but still, it’s a pretty high one for some of us.
Okay, so despite there being a few things I was disappointed with overall I found the guide to be really useful.
Nerd Fitness Rebel Fitness Guide Creator Interview
I did have a few questions for Steve and he answered them in depth for me (and you).
Will the Rebel Fitness Guide be helpful for someone trying to lose a lot of weight?
Absolutely. When you’re at a really high weight and you haven’t exercised in years, it’s tough to get the ball rolling. You want to start eating healthy but you don’t know what exactly to eat. You want to start exercising but you don’t know what type of exercise to begin with. I know what it’s like to want to do something but feel completely overwhelmed and lost at the beginning. I’ve designed this book to break this whole “get in shape” thing down into bite-sized pieces. I even teach you how to shop, read a nutrition label, and prepare a few healthy meals! Although these results are not common, one of the people who bought a pre-release of the guide last month lost over 26 pounds in the first 30 days simply by strictly following the guide!
Rebel Fitness Guide? Sounds kind of scary. Is the e-book just for males or will women benefit too?
Haha, I can certainly see what you mean. Hopefully the Rebel Fitness Guide title doesn’t scare you away, but it’s really written for people who are sick of not seeing results from conventional methods of weight loss that are always pushed on us (do cardio for hours, go on a diet, do a thousand sit ups, take this supplement, etc.). Honestly, I want people to know it’s okay to be different, it’s okay to be an outsider, it’s okay to do things differently than everybody else. 2/3rds of the people in this country are overweight anyways, and I don’t really want to be part of that crowd!
Yes, this guide will certainly work for both guys and gals. I’ve designed the work outs to be accessible to both men and women of any fitness level. Each workout has alternate exercises listed for many of the routines, which allows you to make adjustments based on your current level and still complete the workout. My mom who’s 56 is currently working her way through the Level 2 workouts – I’m so proud!
I’ve included a preview of the guide on the sales page so you can read part of the guide to see if it’s something you’re interested in.
Is this guide just for beginners or will it benefit more people with more advanced experience?
Great question! This guide is certainly aimed primarily to help out beginners, but the later levels of the workouts (Levels 3 and 4) will certainly challenge people that have been exercising for a while. Level 4 kicks my butt, I’ll tell you that. I will say that if you’re a hard core power lifter or Crossfit fanatic, the workouts probably are different than what you’re used to. However, if you’re looking to mix things up and want some new challenging workouts, this would be a great place to start!
How did you design the workouts? What kind of workout do you promote in the guide? Will people need a ton of time or fancy equipment?
I designed the workouts for busy people who want to burn the most calories and build muscle in the least amount of time. I’ve covered it in a previous post on my site, but I’ve learned that effective weight training can be far more efficient at burning fat than straight cardio, AND you don’t lose any of the muscle you already have – win win! I’ve realized that everybody leads really busy lives and few people have time to spend two hours in a gym every day – I know I don’t!
The workouts were designed in conjunction with my friend and mentor, Mike Rickett, a fitness professional with over 20 years of training experience. Each “weight-training” workout should only take about 45 minutes, and then on off days the interval training will have you done in just over 20 minutes. I want to help you get in shape efficiently so you still have plenty of time to spend doing the stuff you love.
The reason I put “weight training” in parenthesis is that most of the exercises are done using just your body weights. All you’ll need to do the workouts in this book are some dumbbells, maybe an exercise ball, and a pull up bar if you’re up for doing them in the more advanced levels. No gym required: just you, a couple dumbbells, and some willpower!
We’ve all seen a million different diet and fitness books. What makes this guide different?
Mine will get you a six-pack of abs, tan skin, and a supermodel wife/husband within two weeks! Haha, just kidding – the Rebel Fitness Guide doesn’t have any secret formulas to help you lose weight – neither do any of the other books out there, no matter what they say. What this guide DOES have is fun, funny, and easy to understand concepts that make getting into shape appear far less daunting and intimidating. It doesn’t require expensive equipment, it doesn’t require a huge time commitment, and it doesn’t require you to buy some miracle supplement or meal plan. It also offers a money-back, no questions asked guarantee if you’re on the fence about trying it out!
Thanks Steve!
I really love the honesty from Steve about the guide and the solid information in it. If you’ve been looking for a program or looking to change things up I’d definitely recommend it. And if you decide to purchase it through this affiliate link I’ll make a little cash. ;) But even if you decide not to use that link I still recommend you checking out the guide and other products from Nerd Fitness.
