Hello my friends!
This weekend has been all about finishing some of my wedding DIY projects. Like my paper flowers. I’ve almost finished them! Now I’m moving on to addressing wedding invitations. I’m doing these at my makeshift standing desk so I don’t spend hours sitting today (because sitting for so long isn’t good for you!).
Another fun thing I did this weekend? I went shopping at Sephora!
I have never shopped at Sephora before but I heard really good things about it and have wanted to go ever since one opened in my local mall. I don’t tend to spend a lot of money on myself but the wedding gives me a great excuse to finally buy better makeup than the cheapest thing I can find at CVS.
I decided I wanted to try Bare Minerals makeup since I’ve read it’s good for sensitive skin and most makeups end up being heavy and bothering me.
I bought the getting started kit since it came with brushes and primer as well as the foundation.
Even though I don’t know much about makeup the sales girl at Sephora confirmed that I chose the perfect shade for my skin.
I tested out the makeup this morning and I really like it. It feels light and nice on my skin and it makes my skin look really nice!
I’m definitely a fan. I think this makeup will be really good for my skin and will look really nice and natural for the wedding. I wanted to do my own makeup and I think this will work great.
Does anyone else use this makeup? Have any tips or tricks for me?
How are other things in the land of getting wedding sexy?
Healthy lunches: I haven’t been eating out much. I did once and opted for a grilled chicken wrap. I’ve also started going to restaurants with coworkers just to get out but ordering water then eating my own lunch later.
Workout 3 times a week: This is pretty steady. I work out on the days I have access to transportation and don’t rely on others. That works out to 3 times a week.
Drink 100+ oz water daily: I managed this well except for the day we spent at Six Flags last weekend. By the end of the day I was super dehydrated from not drinking enough and sweating a lot. I got a horrible headache because of it but I still enjoyed the day and rehydrated after we left.
Therapy: It’s been a few weeks since my last session but I’ve been putting into practice what she has taught me. Things haven’t been perfect but I’ve only binged once and it was minor. I stopped myself before it got too out of control and am happy with how I’ve done the last few weeks.
Weight & Body: I’m not weighing myself (I gave my brother my scale) because I decided I should skip that in case it bothers me before the wedding. I’d rather focus on how I look and how my dress fits. I am also visibly putting on muscle so I’m not sure that the scale would be very helpful for me at this stage. I still have a lot of fat hanging around but I’m excited about the fat that I can actually feel muscles in lots of places.

Next week Operation Wedding Sexy is going to get a kick in the pants. A big, big, kick. I’m going to have the ability to go to the gym 5 days in a row! FIVE! I finally have a week where I won’t be carpooling (though I love carpooling) so I can spend an hour at the gym before work. I could even go after work too but I’m just aiming for one session a day. I know it’s going to make a huge difference because I’m already seeing results with just working out 2-3 times a week and next week I’ll be able to get in more cardio.
Hope you all have a great week!

BareMinerals is the best makeup I’ve ever used. I’m a sensitive skin redhead and have used it for at least 8 or more years and love it. All the essentials you already have in that kit. I use Hope in a Jar moisterizer before putting on the Prime Time. Their blushes, eye color, mascara (flawless definition) and buxom lip gloss are awesome too. Prime Time will be essential for your wedding day because it helps your makeup stay set longer. If you ever go to one of the Bare Esentual stores you will be in heaven, they have everything they offer in one stop. A fine choice, in my opinion!!
I really want to go to one of their stores now! It sounds like they have a lot of awesome products!
I am clueless about makeup. But I DO know that I like how natural yours looks! I love natural looks…so pretty, feminine and…um..natural! If I wear makeup to my wedding, it’ll def be natural, too. Maybe only a pop of color on the lips!

Thanks! I like natural looks too. I probably will play around with eyeshadow colors and lip colors but overall I’m loving the new foundation/look! :)
I love bare escentuals and have been using it for 5 or 6 years. I especially like that it doesn’t irritated my skin or feel like I’m wearing a mask.
I did my own makeup for my wedding. I flipped through wedding magazines until I found a makeup how-to, bought makeup from Sephora, and went to town. My look was really natural and not obviously made up. I did pay for someone to do my hair, I’m terrible at making my hair smooth and sleek like how I wanted it to look.
That’s probably what I’m going to do. I think I can do my own makeup easily (especially since I want to look like myself at the wedding) but I’ll probably pay someone to do my hair. The extent of my hair styling skills are straightening it or putting it up in a ponytail or messy bun. I’m horrible at hair!
Sitting here staring at your picture :)

I’ve never used that but hear ONLY good things.

I love Bare Minerals. I had never really worn foundation type makeup before as it was always too heavy and it was a pain to make it look even. I don’t need a ton of coverage, just a bit. I find that the Bare Minerals is light, easy to apply, and just makes me look more finished. I don’t use it every day, just when I want to look a but more done up. I also use their eyeshadows, and love them. They are a bit more expensive than the drug store types, but I find they stay on longer and last me for at least a year. If you go into a Bare Minerals during the month of your birthday, you get a discount – that is when I got started wearing it! You look beautiful!

I love bare minerals makeup. I have worn it for about 5 years and I will not ever switch. I tried other mineral makeups but nothing else had the coverage and natural look that bare minerals has. And when you consider how long it last it really doesnt cost much more then other makeups. A little goes a long ways. Especially if you use prime time. I use to go through liquid makeup in 1-2 months. My bare minerals last me minimum 3 months and usually 4-5 months. You will be glad you made that purchase :)
Oh that’s good to hear! I was hoping this would last me through the wedding and a while after. I’m planning to buy some more before i head out to NZ so I have backups. :)
You are an inspiration! I really should be working out 5 times a week as well, hope it goes great for you.
Well done on keep a positive outlook!

Thank you so much!! :)
Your skin does look great Mary!! I’ve actually been using a little bit of coconut oil on my skin everyday and I don’t even get any blemishes anymore.

I think you look amazing even without the make up =) But I’ve also heard great things about this brand! I’m currently using the primer from Laura Mercier which I really love (like you, I got the starter kit to try and it was a great value!), but if BE has a better primer, I’m definitely willing to try it when I run out of the one I use now! I’ll have to look up the starter kit pricing though, b/c Sephora prices here in Canada tend to be higher than prices in USA.

Thanks! But the makeup really does help. I see a big difference between no makeup and makeup, although I’m very comfortable going without makeup. I just get shiny. ;)
I really like the primer. This is the first time I’ve ever used a makeup primer but I really like how it feels and keeps the makeup on. I’m not sure if it’s better than what you already use but I do like it!
bareminerals = awesome!! i switched to using laura mercier’s tinted moisturizer and i like that much better if i’m looking for more even and natural looking coverage. try that next time, and see how you like it =)

I love BE! I wore it for years, and then a few years ago I started breaking out even though I was really careful about washing the brushes. So I stopped wearing it and hated everything else that I tried. For years I was on a makeup quest, but then recently decided to give it a try again, and am I glad I did. It turns out it wasn’t the makeup that was breaking me out, but the shampoo I was using to clean the brushes. Why I was cleaning them with shampoo? Now I use the same cleanser that I clean my face with, and I’ve had absolutely no problems. So that’s my main tip: clean your brushes once a week and use either the cleanser you use for your face, or the one they recommend for the brushes – it makes a HUGE difference.
It is definitely the most natural looking, beautiful makeup I’ve ever tried. If you get the chance, look for “Insider” kits from Sephora – they are priced right and let you try new products to the line. Enjoy it!!

Thanks for that tip! I actually wasn’t sure how often to clean the brushes or with what. Now I know! :)
I love Bare Minerals too! Been using it for 6 or 7 years now and love it. I love the matte foundation better than the original because it helps with ‘shinyness’ due to humidity, etc. Hubs knows how much I like the makeup and for birthday/christmas etc he’s been getting me the little ‘kit’ they’ve got at the moment with eyeshadow, blush, brushes, or whatever – and I love it!

Oh that sounds nice! I’ll tell Kepa to get me stuff like that. ;)
I love sephora and I love sephora’s kits they sell. I always buy the mascara kits, because you buy it once and have mascara forever. I have never used a makeup primer before, just foundation. I use fresh brand, which is very light, since I’m not old enough yet to need heavy makeup coverage. Ive heard tons of good things about bare minerals though too, I think I have a sample somewhere I got free from sephora of some of their stuff, so I plan on trying it at some point. Most of the makeup at sephora lasts so long, I don’t think that the cost is very prohibitive, once you factor in that good makeup lasts longer than cheap kind, so you don’t buy it as often.

I love BM… It is great to mix with a dab of moisturizer to make a creamy foundation (I do that when I’m feeling lazy) :-)
I love your blog…. I too moved for love (moved from the east coast to the west coast! :-)
