Setting Up For Success

in Thoughts

We had a good week.

A really good week.

You know that magical day of healthiness I had on Monday? It has turned into five good days so far!

It has me feeling pretty good about myself.

This week was really great and here’s why:

Food

Calorie counting continued all week except for meals out which we made sure fit within our calories for the day by choosing healthy options based around vegetables and good sources of protein.

That pretty sums up most of our meals this week.

Like steak, broccoli, and sweet potato fries

steak, broccoli, sweet potato dinner

And fish, spinach, potato wedges, and avocado dip.

fish and wedges and avocado dip dinner

So good!

Exercise

Workouts this week were GREAT.

It’s the second week of working out since I moved to NZ and the first week I’ve done more cardio than my normal five minute warmup.

My main exercise wins for the week:

  • Moving up to doing squats with 100 lbs (and I’ll be moving up again next)
  • Moving up weight lifted in almost every exercise
  • Starting cardio again with a 20 minute bike ride
  • Starting to run again with a 5 min jog/15 min walk

Generally speaking, it was a good week. I’m easing back into cardio and triathlon training right now and this week was a good start.

Setting Up Rules For Success

After having five good days I’m going into the weekend with high hopes and motivation. It would be easy to go crazy and eat EVERYTHING I WANT, which I admit is something I would have loved to do in the past. But I promise, that’s not the plan for this weekend.

Instead Kepa and I set up some rules or guidelines for ourselves to help out with weekend eating. For example, we are going out to eat for lunch tomorrow (Saturday) then we will be eating healthy meals at home the rest of the day and on Sunday. We also love sweets (oh do I!) so we are eating cookies, but limiting the amounts. Giving ourselves some rules to follow helps us stay on track to achieving our goals. It’s a good thing!

Have a great weekend friends!

You are doing so well – well done. The strengh training exercise really helps because the more muscle you build, the more calories you burn. Those meals look really yummy and making me hungry!

Yay for 5 days! I’m on day 3 of healthy eating and just came back from an appointment with the nutritionist and a stop at the grocery store for more healthy eats!

Your hair is super cute Mary. I had a cute little bob like that a few years ago and I loved it!

Great rules to help with success. I think cookies in moderation is a grand idea.

The food seems very tasty. Keep with exercises and healthy food and you will have the body you want. Personally I think that all people should make cardio training every day.

You look amazing Mary!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that you set up some rules! I did not want to say anything in your last post cause people have different views on eating out & parties & such but for me, there are so many times we can have these situations that if a person enjoyed them all, would be hard to lose. Making a plan ahead of time & having Kepa to work with you on it should really help!

I am going to try some of those meals also. They look very tasty. It’s good that there is no bread or rice involved. The sweet potatoes are a good substitute for those carbs. A great way to lose weight when you eat less starchy foods.
