Usually when I work from home I sit at our dining room table all day working and occasionally talking to or playing with JuJu. It’s pretty isolating and sometimes I feel like I’m not part of the real world. It’s lowered my job satisfaction a lot but I try to remind myself I’m only frustrated with the situation, not the job (generally I loooove my job).
After a few days of feeling rather down this week because of the work-at-home situation, I decided to change it up and go with Kepa into the city for the day. While he went to work I went in search of free and/or cheap wifi since 90% of my job involves being connected to the internet.
I loved being in the city center in Auckland all day. LOVED IT! I didn’t love having to change locations every hour or so (because most places give you 1 hour or a certain amount of internet), but I looked at it as more activity added to my day. Every time an hour passed I had to switch to a new location a block or two from my last.
It was so different from my normal day yet I still did the same type of work and accomplished the same things. It was just the surroundings and activity level that changed. Those things clearly make a huge difference to my happiness though because changing them made me much happier!
I ended up walking almost 4 miles in the city and changed locations for internet 5 times. I plan to go into town with Kepa at least once a week, probably on Mondays when it’s not as difficult to change locations and keep my workflow smooth. One day a week should be enough to make me feel like I’m actually still connected to the world. :)

This is a good idea as I’m going to be working from home starting in two weeks! :) Thanks for the tip.
That sounds like a great idea! How fun! I have been stuck in the house for the last 4 months with an injured kitty but we are on the back end of it so hopefully after all of our upcoming travels, I’ll be able to take a day or 2 a week and head to Panera/Starbucks, etc. to get some writing done.
You should definitely do it! It’s great to change up locations for writing. I always feel way more creative. :)
It’s fun to mix it up! Awesome that you got more activity in!

That sounds really fun! One of the things that I struggle with in my job is to confine our activity to the classroom. Some days I just want to take the kids into the middle of the field or the middle of the local town and get them to write, but it’s generally frowned upon (especially the taking them off school property). I love your idea though, it is a good way to keep it fresh!
