Friday Five: Food, Links, & Yays

by Mary on January 18, 2013

Happy Friday, friends!

I’m so happy it’s Friday. So, so, sooooo happy. I love the weekends and can’t wait for this one!

In this lovely Friday Five edition we have things I’m doing this weekend, some random things, things for this blog’s future, delicious food posts, and things to read. Enjoy!

5 Things I’m Doing This Weekend

1. Going to a new Zumba class!!!

2. Meeting a friend for a healthy lunch and motivational chat.

3. Spending time with Kepa and JuJu. Movie night!

4. Going for a walk or two. (Hoping for sunshine!)

5. Making plans for bigger and better things in the future.

5 RandomThings

1. I’m struggling a lot with anxiety right now. I’ve been put on new birth control by my doctor that is meant to help with PMDD. But this first week? Back to feeling the craziest I’ve ever felt. It’s affected every area of my life, including work where I’ve been miserable.

2. JuJu gets locked in the bathroom during the day now. Poor bathroom dog! I feel so bad about it, but we can’t leave her outside and she keeps tearing things up in the bedroom when we are gone for 8+ hours. She is fine to be in there lay on her bed or the couch if it’s just 5-6 hours, but all day makes her unhappy. So, for now, the bathroom is her room.

3.  I haven’t worn my heart rate monitor in forever. Months. It makes me feel like a major slacker which is why I want to break it out again and start wearing it more often. Perhaps at zumba this weekend? Or maybe on my next walk? It’s coming out of a long rest.

4. We’ve been using coconut almond milk in our smoothies in the morning. It’s rather amazing and makes for great smoothies. However, we just ran out this morning! Looks like a second grocery shopping trip will have to happen this week.

5. My on again, off again relationship with keeping a tumblr blog for motivation is on again. If you want to follow me there you can. It’s more or less a pinteresty thing for me. I just collect motivation and follow some of the other fitblrs that I enjoy. If you are on tumblr, say hi so I can follow you as well.

5 Things I Want To Do On This Blog

1. Share more weight loss success stories. Are you a success story? Contact me please! :)

2. More reader recipes. Got an amazing healthy recipe? Send it to me to try then I’ll share it!

3. Share more tips and how-to posts. I hold back because I don’t feel like an expert, but I know how to do things!

4. Take this show on the road! I’m hoping to make it to Fitbloggin and maybe another conference or two in 2013.

5. Share my own success story! Like I’m getting closer and closer every day. Can’t wait.

We crate trained Sashi from the time we got her (she was about 9 weeks old) so her crate was home. We left for the day, she went in her crate. We went to bed, she went in her crate. After about three weeks all we had to do was say “Time to go in your crate!” or “Bedtime!” and she’d go right in on her own and we’d latch the door. I think we used her crate for about 8 months, until we knew we could trust her unattended all day.

Does JuJu have things she can worry about while you’re gone? Like a favorite bone or toy? Giving her things she is allowed to chew up may help save your stuff too!

We used to have her in a crate in NZ for a while but don’t have one here. We usually leave her with her bone that she enjoys and toys as well. She plays with those and really she has been fine most of the time. So far the two times she tore stuff up were because 1) we left her extra space/room when we left her and that made her anxious and 2) we left her for too long/longer than she has been left before.

The bathroom will work for now. She gets a little blanket/bed area and water and her toys. It’s like a crate but bigger actually. She did fine in there yesterday and didn’t tear anything up or go to the bathroom herself so it will work until we move with a backyard or work through leaving her in the house alone all day. I just feel bad though!

Yumm!!! The Avocado Spinach Pasta looks awesome!

THanks for the reading list too, looking forward to checking those out!

I second the crate training! Our little guy loves his crate, and had even been known to go in there when he needs his “alone time.” haha He is an odd dog, but we love him :)

On another note, I LOVE mashed cauliflower! :)

Yum – coconut almond milk in a smoothie sounds delish.

I love cauliflower too!

P.S. What brand is your heart rate monitor? I’ve recently been in interested in using one.

Mary January 18, 2013 at 2:25 pm

I have a Polar heart rate monitor. I actually loved it so much I ended up as an ambassador for them. ;)

You can read my review here: Polar FT7 Review

And the one I have is on Amazon here: Polar FT7 on Amazon

I love it, when I actually use it. Which should start again this weekend!

I have a Polar FT7 as well and really love it! I’ve been having trouble with the strap lately though not picking up my heart rate. I ordered two new ones from Amazon and they’re different from the one that came with it. My original one has a soft area with the wires in it that you wet before wearing. The new ones, however, have a thin, stiff, plastic/vinyl section in that place and came with no instructions! I’ve tried connecting it both wet and dry with no luck. Any experience with this type of strap? I can’t seem to find anythin gonline about it.
Thanks!
Kimberly

Oh really? That’s so weird! I don’t have any idea with the new ones, mine are all like the ones you got originally.

I love Friday round-up posts. Also one that has food is even better. ;)
Also don’t worry about your love/hate relationship with Tumblr, I think everyone goes through that with the tumblr medium.

we are going to be remodeling our bathroom, and are considering putting our pup in a bedroom during the day instead of the kitchen (where the construction crew will entire from). i’m nervous that she’ll tear things up too – she ripped our bathroom wallpaper right off the wall (serves the house right for having ugly wallpaper).

have fun at zumba -mixing it up in those classes is always the best – a variety of music means putting off boredom :)

also, mashed cauliflower is the bomb – have you tried doing mashed parsnips in it too?? soooo good!

Have a wonderful weekend Mary. Hope you feel more yourself soon. Hugs to you and Juju across the miles to you from here in Canada.

The french toast recipe looks amazing. I love breakfast food for dinner :) I too am enjoying the nice weather and looking forward to several walks. I made a four mile walk today and am hoping for walking weather tomorrow.

I decided to break out my HRM recently too and all of the sudden it doesn’t work. I had to replace all the batteries and it’s just such an issue! It figures I run into all these problems right when I get motivated! Nice weekend plans, by the way! :)

Thank you SO much for the link-love, friend! I hope you had a blast at Zumba. It’s pretty much my favorite thing, ever. :)

Courtney @ Journey of a Dreamer January 21, 2013 at 11:20 am

Hope you had fun at Zumba! I’m a work in progress, but have lost a significant amount of weight. Still a ways to go though. Let me know if you want to share my story!
