Healthy Memphis: Kroc Center Tour

by Mary on January 31, 2013

I’ve found my new gym/home/favorite place in Memphis.

This morning I went on a tour of the new Kroc Center that will be opening in a couple months here in Memphis. The company I work for does the website for the Kroc Center so we got a little behind the scenes look at the building before it opens.

The Kroc Center Memphis is a community center that’s going to be great for the city. There are dozens of Kroc centers across the country thanks to a donation from Joan Kroc to the Salvation Army. Cities that are chosen get matching funds from money they raise to build the community centers.

The Kroc Center is an amazing community center that features: basketball courts, soccer fields, pools, fitness center, worship area, stage, meeting rooms, classrooms, and more. It’s over 100,000 square feet of recreation.

What I’m really excited about is the fitness center and pool. It’s pretty state of the art and fancier then any gym I’ve belonged to so far.

I’m too excited about the group fitness classes, especially group power, group kick, zumba, and muy thai kickboxing. Hello amazing things I want to do!

The rest of the center is amazing too, of course!

There is a huge NBA size basketball gym and indoor soccer/lacrosse area.

There is a kitchen with an area for group cooking classes and demonstrations.

There is a challenge area for kids and team building that’s experiential learning at it’s best.

There are lots of other cool touches throughout the building and once it’s finished it will be even better. It’s one of the coolest buildings in Memphis and will be great for the community in relations to both health/fitness and community relations.

I’m so terribly excited about it opening. We plan on joining since I want to go to the classes and would like to swim there occasionally (I miss swimming). Let the countdown til The Kroc Center opens begin!

Salem has a Kroc center, all I’ve heard are good things! That’s so exciting for you and Memphis.

I didn’t know Salem had one! Everything I’ve seen from other cities is all good so I’m excited for the city and those of us who can use it.

Thanks for showing the photos. We had one in Dorchester/Boston and used it all the time. I work for The Salvation Army and they are wonderful community spaces.
