It’s been long established that I love anything made by Muddy’s Bake Shop.
If someone asks who makes the best cupcakes in Memphis, the answer is always Muddy’s. If someone wants to order a cake, I always suggest Muddy’s. If someone wants to get a sweet treat after a movie, I point the crew toward Muddy’s.
Of course, I have to balance the deliciousness of Muddy’s baked goods with the need for nutritious food. That means Muddy’s Bake Shop is just an occasional treat for me.
Recently they opened a second store called Muddy’s Grind House. The name is a nod to Memphis and our amazing basketball team, and also to the fact that it’s a coffee shop! Instead of opening a second bakeshop in Memphis, they took some of the sweetness from the original location and added coffee, space, and activities.
This was great news for me because it means I can visit more often.
The focus at Muddy’s Grind House is completely on coffee.
They have a very limited coffee menu and are trying to master the basics before expanding into more options. Here’s how they explain the coffee:
Coffee is the main event at Muddy’s Grind House! We are doing espresso beverages as well as a variety of drip and French press coffees from a rotating list of roasters both local and national.
When we first opened the Bake Shop in 2008 we didn’t start with a gigantic menu or pretend to know everything about baking.
We are not going to hide the fact that we are beginners in the coffee business. What’s more, we want YOU to learn all about coffee right along with us and come along for the ride. Want us to feature a type of coffee drink? Let us know! Curious about a brew method? Let’s learn together!
It’s incredibly exciting to have a local business growing and letting the community guide their choices. They are working on the next generation of the drink menu which should be exciting for coffee lovers.
Currently I’m sipping on a vanilla latte as I write this post and it’s quite lovely.
Though I am not partaking today, I’m happy to report lots of my favorite sweets are also offered in the coffee shop.
Yum, yum, and yum.
The Grind House bakers create scones, biscuits, cookies, muffins, and more and they also offer a roatating selection from Muddy’s Bake Shop. There are cookies, pies, and cupcakes available!
One of my favorite things at Muddy’s Grind House is the activities they are offering. I have yet to take them up on the classes but they currently offer yoga and tai chi weekly. There are other activities planned as well and I can’t wait to see what fun classes I can take. Currently I’m thinking “early bird” yoga on Saturdays is the most likely option at 8 am.
They are also hosting the upcoming Indie Holiday Market in Memphis which will be super exciting to browse and buy.
