Day 16 of the AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge*! This was a day of making things work. I was on the go ALL DAY long and made due with the options I had available. More about that as we continue.

Wakeup: Spark*! I woke up earlier than I normally do to attend a professional networking group where the topic was Instagram. Since I run several Instagram accounts professionally (and just randomly post personally), I figured it was a great event to attend. Despite waking up earlier, I really enjoyed the event!
I was on the front row and took this picture of the speaker for my Instagram account. I don’t know why, but I love how she has the same upwards look as the awesome painting behind her!
Breakfast: Chocolate meal replacement shake*. A note about this. The event I attend was held at a delicious little pastry shop and it was hard to say no to the coffee and breakfast options! I’ve had them before there and it’s sooo good. I chose to just grab a glass of water and made my shake after leaving at 9:30 am.
Lunch: For lunch I ate with my mom’s husband while she was in the recovery room following her surgery. That’s right, my mom had her knee surgery! I grabbed their “healthy meal” option and passed on the bread offered. The other options included lots of fried foods (NO!) or a smaller salad. I could have grabbed the salad but I knew that’s what I was having for dinner so I chose to get something hot.
Mmm, hospital food. I had a moment of regret after she handed me the container and I could see it more clearly, but it was already done. Live and learn for my next hospital visit! I ate the chicken without the skin and the green beans. They were good but had a lot of sodium compared to what I’ve been eating.
Dinner: As mentioned, I knew I was eating salad for dinner. I had a salad with romaine, lettuce, tomato, and grilled chicken with a mustard dressing. I’ve been eating a lot of chicken lately!
AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge Day 16 Fitness
Since most of my day consisted of events and driving across the county back-and-forth, I didn’t make it to the gym. Visiting the hospital involved a surprising amount of walking.
- when I got lost and had to walk to the other building
- when I walked down to the wing my mom had her surgery in
- when I walked back to the recovery room
- when I walked back to the car and then to the cafeteria
- when I walked to the new room in a new building/wing
- when I walked back to their car to get stuff they needed
- when I walked back to my car to leave and go to another event
Basically, I walked a ton while I was at the hospital. It’s a very nice place with lots of different buildings. I’m glad it was a nice day because a lot of the walking I did was outside back and forth to buildings and cars.
AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge Day 16 Thoughts
Overall I’m most grateful on this day that my mom’s surgery went well. She was really nervous the last couple days leading up to it. It was scary but she needed relief from knee pain so badly there wasn’t another choice. It was knee replacement time or she wouldn’t be able to walk! The surgery went well and she is still at the hospital recovering. I was there when her physical therapy started and she isn’t looking forward to the machines and PT appointments, but she is excited that’s she’ll have one good leg soon. Then she will get to do the other leg in a few months!
Watching my mom go through her knee surgery made me realize how much I want to be healthy and delay anything like that. I know the extra weight is definitely a problem and can affect joints, so it’s good to get off as much as possible. Even believing you can be healthy and have healthy behaviors at any size, I know being over a certain size means you’ll have trouble with joints later. It’s definitely something to consider!
Overall I think they day went pretty well. It wasn’t perfect but that’s real life!
