When I went shopping this week I discovered something new to me: champagne grapes.
Somehow I’ve managed to go my whole life without noticing these tiny little grapes. Perhaps my local grocery store rarely carries them or maybe I’m that unobservant. Either way, these cute little grapes were a surprise to me. As a lover of tiny food, I knew immediately that I had to buy them.
When I got home I started thinking up ideas of how to use them. After a quick browse of pinterest and google search for champagne grape recipes, I knew I wanted to incorporate them into a pizza, a drink concoction, and a salad.
But first, I needed to eat them!
I loved these tiny little grapes! They are delicate with a fragile skin and intensely sweet tasting with barely any tartness. I immediately put some in the freezer to have as a sweet frozen snack later.
After trying them out I decided to add them to the quick meal I was planning to have for lunch anyway: turkey and cheese rollups.
Grapes with turkey? Why not. I like grapes with other things. Experimenting with food is fun even when it doesn’t necessarily work out.
Sometimes the best ideas come from experimenting with food. (Other times it ends up as a disaster you can’t eat, but lets not focus on that, shall we?)
The addition of champagne grapes into the mix made me want to switch up the roll ups so I chose feta for my cheese option and added in romaine lettuce leave to hold everything together.
All I did here was roll up two slices of natural turkey lunch meat inside a romaine lettuce leaf, top with feta, and added the champagne grapes. Quickest lunch idea ever.
The grapes made the turkey roll-ups so juicy! It really didn’t even need a sauce though you could add some light mayo or other preferred sauce here.
Thank you champagne grapes, for introducing something different into my life and making my lunch today a little more exciting! It was a fun and flavorful ride and I can’t wait to make other things with you!
If you’ve got some ideas or recipes that must be tried with champagne grapes, let me know.
