I finally got around to watching the fat shaming video that was in the news and on all the blogs recently.
Ugh. Just ugh.
I get that it is done to ruffle feathers and get views and $$ for a performer.
But UGH. I don’t think I’ve ever disliked another person so much.
If you haven’t seen it, it’s below:
“Fat shaming is not a thing. Far people made that up. … YES! Shame people with bad habits until they fucking stop! If we offend you so much that you lose weight then I’m okay with that.” Right. Fat shaming doesn’t actually work, in case you didn’t know. It generally hurts people and backfires causing them to gain more weight and suffer in their mental health.
“I’m not saying all this to be an asshole.” Um, yeah you are.
“The truth is I will love you no matter what.” Yeah, cause you loved the people in the video you hatefully described so much.
Overall the video is one line after another of fake “concern” over our health over barely concealed hatred of fat people. Let’s not pretend this type of concern trolling is anything other than the socially acceptable way to hate fate people. Hating on fat people is real (ask Reddit) and it is something that can ruin people’s lives.
The best response I saw was the one from Whitney Way Thore posted below:
I really appreciated the response from Whitney. I’ve been meaning to watch her show on TLC and now I definitely plan to. Great response.
Being fat doesn’t mean you are a terrible person. Plus size people are worthy and capable and valuable. Your body doesn’t define you and it shouldn’t be a reason for other people to make you feel bad about yourself. Screw that.
Love your body and yourself!

I used to watch those types of videos and it always managed to put me in a bad place mentally. One day it occurred to me: no matter what the person on the video says to the contrary, that’s *exactly* the reaction they are hoping for so they could get all the attention and “likes” and “views”. That’s when I decided it was time for me to stop watching. I have enough ignorant and stupid people I have to deal with in my personal life and I certainly don’t need to invite attention seeking strangers into the mix.

That’s so true! While I was watching the video part of me was getting riled up while the other part of my brain was almost admiring the quality of the video’s purpose – it was designed to elicit a negative response. Online a strong negative response will get you almost as many views which translates into money. Being negative sells. I rarely watch things like this either and that’s why it took me a while after it was publishing and in the news to even watch it.

I hadn’t taken the time to watch. Wow…… Thanks for the second video! :-)

I have mixed feelings about the video. There are some valid points, which, of course, cannot be applied to everyone. But I feel like a lot of heavy people are heavy, because they don’t want to do anything about it.
The fact is, you literally don’t have to do anything besides lowering your calorie intake. Certain things like parking further from the grocery store/work will just speed up the process. But people are so god damn lazy nowadays, that they will almost park their car inside the grocery store, just to not walk an extra mile.
A perfect example of everything the girl is saying can be seen in “my 600 lb life documentaries”. Those people are disgusting. What’s even more disgusting is that their kids have to take care of them, because they simply cannot leave. Childhood, teenage years and even college is ruined for those kids, because the parent just for some reason cannot eat less.
I’m not saying that fat shaming is good, or anything. Fat shaming is horrible, especially, when done in schools to kids. But there’s a very simple solution for that, get a tiny bit of education on nutrition, stop feeding junk to your kids and they will never be bullied for being fat. But apparently, it’s so hard to do… if only we had Wikipedia and Google to look everything up, right?
On the other hand, fat shaming is great, because if a person understands how to use all the abuse/hatred as fuel and motivation, he will lose all the weight and then some. Just look at all the 200+ transformation videos on YouTube. That’s dedication and a little bit effort.
On another note, I cannot understand how people even get to so big. For example, I was 30+ pounds overweight, which put me in the obese category. I could no longer see my thing in the shower (sorry if it’s too graphic, but it’s just how it is), when looking down, because I had a belly. Right then, I got so disgusted with myself and I knew I had to do something, so far around 18-20 pounds lost, and I am not stopping there.
If you haven’t noticed yet, society has become sh*t, everything has become about looks. You get treated differently, you get better jobs, you get more respect if you look good, that’s just how the world is now. If you can’t accept that, you will have a really bad time.
Just my 2 cents, please don’t get offended, I’m just giving my opinion.

Sorry for a wall of text, I did space it out, but it seems that formatting is a little bit of on the website.

A little update, I found the perfect response video, at least in my opinion. Although, it’s R rated because of all the cursing. I think you should take a look – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lhPLPA0hr-c
Take care!
