On Saturday I woke up at 6:20 am to start a fantastic day in Memphis.
The highlight of the day and my weekend by far was attending the Memphis Tiger vs Ole Miss Rebels. The game was at 11:00 am so we had to wake up early to pick everyone up and head to the game for morning tailgating.
While I’m not a huge fan of mornings, I’ll definitely wake up for coffee, corn hole, and football games with friends!
Gorgeous weather and a sold-out Liberty Bowl stadium made for a great game day experience.
So many people! It’s the most packed I’ve seen the Liberty Bowl in a while. It’s nice to have an undefeated team picking up fans daily.
That’s the best wave I’ve seen our fans accomplish so far. It was awesome to see the Liberty Bowl so packed with fans (from both teams). It’s a really great atmosphere when so many people are there cheering for their teams.
Everyone was so excited about this game. I was thrilled that it was a good game too. Interesting to watch with great plays by both teams. I was on the edge of my seat and holding my breath for half of the game.
And of course, the best part of the day: WE WON!
In the first quarter the Tigers were down by 14 but we came back to win 37 to 24. Fantastic!
The Memphis Tigers won and our fans went wild. People started rushing the field immediately.
It’s been over a decade since the Tigers beat the Rebels so everyone in Memphis was ecstatic. Fans ran onto the field and students jumped down from the 15 feet high student section they were so excited. (I was incredibly amused by this because it was just an ankle injury waiting to happen.)
After the game everyone was so thrilled there was lots of yelling and celebrating for the rest of the day. It felt like no one wanted to leave after the game was done so Tiger Lane turned into a huge party.
We stuck around Tiger Lane to grill and chill for several hours. The weather was perfect so we hung out for the rest of the afternoon drinking, cooking, and playing games. I threw a football, did 10 cartwheels in a row, and just enjoyed the afternoon full of joy.
The best part of living in a small city is that at events like this you will always see a ton of people you know. We visited several tents and said hi to a lot of different people that came and went during the afternoon.
Another added benefit about the game and tailgating? Lots of walking throughout the day!
I took off my Fitbit when I got home but it registered almost 12,000 steps for the game and tailgating. Most fun I’ve had walking around all day!
Since Saturday game day was such a long day I’m spending a nice quiet Sunday relaxing and catching up on reading. I’ve got a nice thick binder of info to read for a volunteering opportunity so I’ll be working my way through that this afternoon. I’ll still have a smile on my face thanks to how much fun I had yesterday during the Tigers game! ;)
