In the effort to challenge myself this year, I just did something that is going to challenge me in multiple ways.
I signed up for the St. Jude Half Marathon!!
After work I made a little rambling video about signing up and why I wanted to do this.
I’m still waivering between crazy
Why is this going to be a challenge?
RUNNING – I haven’t been running a lot in the last year. In fact, the last 5k I did a couple weeks ago just for fun? Walked the whole thing with some friends. The final time was 52 minutes. So clearly at that pace a half marathon would be almost 4 hours.
FUNDRAISING – I hate fundraising because I hate asking people for anything, especially money. I’ve always disliked the process even when it is for an amazing cause like St. Jude. Even though I’ve known and seen families who had children saved by this great hospital… it’s hard to ask people for money.
So, why do this?
So I’m not great at running or fundraising, but I want to do this. I want the challenge. I’ve been looking for something to focus on and work towards this year and I think this is it.
I actually signed up for this half marathon several years ago when I was running more often and felt more confident about the training. However, that was the one year that the race was canceled due to ice and unsafe conditions. I obviously did not run that year and have not signed up again since… but it’s been lingering in my mind since then.
Last year I went to cheer on my brother-in-law as well as several friends and coworkers. I’ve watched so many people commit to this race and complete it. I want to join them!
I’m not ready at all right now obviously but I’ve got more than 6 months. I’ve got time to prepare. I’m going to document my training here to keep myself accountable. Even if I end up having to walk this thing… I am going to complete it. I’m going to give it my best effort.
And I’m going to raise $1,500 to help support St. Jude…. with your help.
