Eden Organic Wild Berry Mix Review

by Mary

Today I’m going to start reviewing all the goodies I got with my iHerb shopping spree.  If you want to win your own $50 shopping spree, make sure you go enter to win!

The first product I actually opened and tried from the all the stuff I got was the Eden Organic Wild Berry Mix.

Wild Berry Mix

Pretty, isn’t it?

It contains nuts, seeds and berries.  The bag says it is double certified organically grown, which sounds nice even though I don’t really know what that means.  I suppose that means it’s 100% organic.

I had 3 tablespoons, the serving size, for a snack the other day.

Wild Berry Mix

It’s a blend of almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, raisins, cranberries, and hand picked (says so on the bag!) wild blueberries.  It’s a really nice mix for a snack.  A little bit of sweet with the fruit and a little bit of salt with everything else, even with no salt added.  I like the mix of textures and flavors.

Plus – it’s good for you!  Full of nutrients and healthy antioxidants.  I feel almost like I’m eating bird food when I’m eating it, with the abundance of seeds, but it’s worth it.

I liked it as a snack.  The portion size is a good snack and kept me pretty full until dinner time.  A single serving is 150 calories with 5 g of protein.

I admit it.  I’m a fan.  My only wish is that it was a bigger bag so it would last longer.  In a few servings it will be gone and I will need a refill.  Next time though, I might buy everything separately and mix it together.  Worth a shot. ;)

I actually question whether that product is 100% organic simply because I’ve never heard the phrase “doubly certified organically grown” before. The following are the legal definitions regarding organics in the US:
organic: at least 95% organic
If an item is 100% organic, they are legally permitted to say such on packaging.
Items that are at least 70% organic are allowed to market their product as “made with organic ingredients.”

These are official definitions and categorizations approved and monitored by agencies authorized by the USDA.

That said, I looked through the Eden Foods website and found the following in their FAQ:

Approximately 67 percent of Eden Foods are double certified organic, both by USDA NOP certifiers and by our Chairman and president. Some Japanese Imported and Macrobiotic specialty products, as well as olive oil, are not certified organic, even though they are grown and processed in the traditional manner and are the finest we can source.

So… that tells me that they are at least 95% (but probably not 100% or they’d say so) organic, as determined by the USDA (legit) and their boss (umm… not legit)! Strange…

Regardless, the trail mix looks delish. I like the idea of blueberries in there.

I’ve never heard that phrase before which is why I said I didn’t know what it means. I’m no expert on the organic stuff. Thanks for looking that stuff up and letting me know. Funny how their boss man counts as a source of proof. Yeah, real legit.

That being said.. I honestly do like it whether or not it’s organic. The blueberries are really nice. I like the ratio of fruit to nuts and seeds and all that. Since I’m not an organic nut (hahaha?) I’ll probably keep getting it.

Tina,

We appreciate your organic skepticism! Unfortunately, the USDA organic seal isn’t as legit as we would all hope. Here’s a link to why Eden Foods chooses not to use the USDA seal.

ps. And yes, they are 100% organic! :)

Well, thanks for coming around to share that.

Since I’m not strict about eating organic it doesn’t really bother me either way, but I’m sure some people really would like to know that.

Lol. Mmm this looks very good. I like all of those things. How much does it cost? Ya it does look like bird food, but then again I always thought bird food looked good. :) I eat dried fruit in my cereal and for snacks, and almonds are great snacks because they get a bit of protein in there and most of the time im not allergic to them unless I pig out on them. They taste like cookies to me.

The one I got was $4.21. It is a little bird food like, but it’s all good stuff.

Eden Foods is the most trusted name in Organic… without a doubt. I’ve been on a journey to find the very best in Organic food and Eden is ahead of the game in each and every way. Their CEO is passionate about what he does… and it shows. They use BPA-free cans, they rejected GMOs from the beginning and sit on the board of directors for the http://www.nongmoproject.com , they rejected irradiation of food, they source from US family farms, the list goes on and on.
