Engagement Day Food

by Mary

With all the excitement yesterday, I didn’t blog. What excitement? Well, if you haven’t heard yet, I’m engaged. Yep, my little kiwi boyfriend proposed to me yesterday! (And it was entirely cute.)

Since I was busy telling friends and the world about my engagement because I’m so excited, I didn’t get a chance to blog my food. It wasn’t the best day health wise, but it was the best day in every other way. We ate at my favorite places!

We started out at home. In the morning Kepa made me an egg, turkey bacon, and pepperjack cheese whole wheat bagel. YUM.

Then, obviously, we got engaged.

See the proposal story here.

Afterwards I called my mom and best friend then went out to lunch with Kepa to celebrate. We went to my favorite mexican place (wait, didn’t I say that yesterday?) – Las Tortugas. It’s real, fresh good Mexican food that would be in a more upscale place in Mexico City, not anything like border mexican food that most Mexican restaurants in the US serve. It’s all about flavors like lime, cilantro, etc. SO GOOD!

We split this, which I completely forget what it’s called, but it’s yummy melted cheese and avocado with tortillas.

And I ordered red snapper fish tacos. This place has the best fish tacos. YUM. The flavors are so ridiculously good.

We also got elote, or corn on the cob that has mayo, cheese, and seasonings (cayenne and such). Best way to eat corn ever.

I was really happy we went there to celebrate because it was a delicious and appropriate meal to share. We both LOVE food, so obviously we enjoy places like this that serve fresh (owner buys the food each morning and if they run out, they run out), flavorful food. If you are ever in the Memphis area make sure you go there.

After that we went to a Memphis favorite: Jerry’s Sno-Cones. I hadn’t had one in forever… I barely remember the one time I went there. But it was a hot day and very appropriate. We got three small flavors to split: strawberry banana, peach, and mango.

Mmmmmm.

We ate them at a park and just enjoyed the day and being newly engaged. :) It was fun! I only had about half of a small though, so not too much sugar consumed.

Then for dinner we went to my favorite BBQ place: Central BBQ.

I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and bbq baked beans.

I ate half the sandwich and one of Kepa’s ribs. I ate most of the beans because they are made with peppers and are so spicy that I love them. The sandwich was okay, but I’ve had better ones there. The ribs however were amazing and falling off the bone. Yum.

Not the healthiest day, but oh it was the best day! I’ll eat vegetables some other time. ;)
