Today I woke up with the intention of eating healthy once again. It was definitely a better day and I’m already feeling better. I drank a ton of water today and that really helped me feel a lot better. Whenever I’m not getting enough water my body feels terrible, so just the mere act of drinking enough made me feel better.
I started off the morning with raisin bran. I was a bit disappointed with it because of the high sugar content (yikes!) but it was the best of the cereal options at my house, and I really wanted cereal for breakfast.
My lunch was healthy! Woot! I was so excited to have a light, healthy lunch after so many fast food meals. There was no fried chicken or burgers or fries for lunch today. I ate a turkey sandwich with pepper jack cheese, mustard, and a tiny bit of mayo, on Ezekiel 4:9 bread. Also had a few green grapes.
In my car I found some of the snack mix that I had left and while most of it wasn’t great, I ate the remaining pretzels.
For dinner we went to Olive Garden with my best friend so Kepa could cross off another restaurant off his list. Before we went I looked up the menu’s nutrition information so I knew what to get before hand. I was looking mainly at sodium, trying to choose something that was lower in sodium so I wouldn’t ruin the day with one meal (easy to do at a place like Olive Garden).
I ate a tiny bit of the salad with dressing even though the dressing’s sodium level is ridiculously, ridiculously high. I also ate a breadstick because for some reason I’ve always liked the breadsticks at Olive Garden even though they aren’t anything special at all.
I ended up ordering the parmesan crusted tilapia, served with vegetables and angel hair pasta. It’s 590 calories and 910 mg of sodium, which for Olive Garden is quite good! I ate all the fish, most of the veggies, and some of the pasta.
At the end of the day I’m feeling good about my choices and about how what I ate and drank made me feel. Perfect? No. Better? Yes. Most definitely yes. I’m glad that my day was mostly sugar free besides breakfast. I’m happy to be back on the healthier eating now. I don’t know how much more crap I could take!
What would/do you order at Olive Garden? The parmesan crusted tilapia is is my favorite option. :)

That fish looks AWESOME. How can you go wrong with parmesan crusted? Yum. I think you had a great day, Mary! And I love your lunch too. Ahhh. Refreshing!
You can’t go wrong. I think Olive Garden fails in the fact that they like to put cheese on EVERYTHING, but with this one dish it works because it’s not overkill.
When I go to Olive Garden, I’ve been getting the Mussels Di Napoli appetizer as my meal – only about 200 calories! That gives me room for both salad and breadstick which definitely makes me a happy girl (:
That sounds like a great option – way better than mine in fact. I wish I like mussels. ;)
I was really shocked back when I heard about the raisin bran high sugar content. You assume because it’s bran and raisin that it’s good for you! But it does taste really good :-) I don’t have it often, but I still like it!
I don’t have it often either – I never buy it for myself but I will eat it if it’s available.
I love eating at the Olive Garden…it’s so bad for you, but it’s so good!! I honestly could just eat salad and breadsticks for my meal, but I usually also end up with some sort of chicken pasta!
Hi there! I just found your blog through your guest post on Meals n’ moves! I’m loving your practical, realistic approach to eating and weight loss. :) I’ve actually never been to Olive Garden, but the next time I do, I gotta try that main dish you ordered!!! YUM!
I get the apricot chicken. It’s great. You choice looks great too. :)
I always get soup and salad at Olive Garden and avoid the breadsticks at all costs. They are delicious and I can’t eat just one. Same with the Red Lobster cheddar biscuits! It is best if I don’t even take a bite!
i really dont like olive garden. it is (or was) my sisters favorite restaurant. but im not a big italian food fan, and when im in the mood for it, olive garden is def NOT the place i would go. i know lots of people do like it though. i think ive been 3 x and i forget what i got. prob something with angel hair since its my fav type of pasta. i think i like their breadsticks, but theyre not as good as other chain’s breads (bertuccis rolls or cheesecake factory’s brown bread!!).
