This afternoon when I felt like having a snack I made a green smoothie!! I figured it was a great time to do it instead of reaching for some carbs. I mean, I had all the right ingredients, they needed to be used, and I needed a snack. I’ve always kind of wondered what the fuss was about (I see them on lots of health food blogs). Might as well try it, right?
It started with a frozen banana.
Then came the lettuce! AHH!
Mix greens + spinach + kale. Took the stems off everything and prechopped the kale a bit.
Then it got 1/4 cup milk, 3 oz greek yogurt, flax seed, and cinnamon! (and the picture that I took was terrible, sadly)
It came out looking like this:
And the kicker? Doesn’t taste half bad. It’s very banana flavored, which I love. Besides the green color it’s hard to even know it’s got lettuce in it.
Man, I just made and drank a green smoothie. For someone who used to refuse to eat lettuce, who would pick off veggies from everything, who wouldn’t drink something green unless it was pure sugar… I’m a different person than I used to be. I’ve forced myself to change my eating habits and it’s worked really well. Now that I’m forcing myself to eat more veggies I know it will only be a good thing. :)
Do you drink green smoothies? Ever made one?
ps – I’ve gotta get a new nikon charger for myself. I hate the photos from this camera I’m using! Bah!

I love green smoothies! You can’t really taste the greens…
I’ve also had vegetable juice, which really does taste like vegetables and isn’t quite as palatable. If you’re not a veggie fan, stick with the green smoothies. Theyre so healthy!
I like veggies. I would add the V8 juice we have but I like sweet smoothies so I’ll pass on that. ;)
I do drink green smoothies! I’ve only started recently though so I’m still experimenting. :)
I love my green monster smoothies :) I use baby spinach in them!
Hehe. I think it’s funny how the health bloggers all call them green monsters. I can’t use that term. LOL
Whats the difference between baby spinach and regular spinach?
I haven’t tried to make a green smoothy, but I think I might just have to try it out since I’ve been hearing about them a lot lately and god knows I could use more veggies in my diet.
I think it’s a pretty cool way to sneak in more veggies since you can’t taste them. :)
Yay new charger, and yay lettuce juice! ;)
I miss you. I’m guessing you fell asleep because you haven’t done your food post for today.
I love you.
I swear I replied to this. Maybe I was still asleep and dreamed I replied? Weird.
I love you too!
I love green smoothies! Mmm going to have one when I get home. I recommend a scoop of PB or almond butter for extra staying power.
That’s a good idea… I actually almost did that when I made it, but I wasn’t sure how it was going to taste so I was scare to throw too much stuff in there!
I have never made one, and to be honest, when you were describing what is in it, it didn’t sound too appetizing, however, I do eat odwalla superfoods green smoothies from the store. Or, drink, but theyre so thick its more like eat. Theres a couple of other brands of the same thing as well – naked, and some others. The large size of the green drink is very often on sale because it looks gross. It looks like green sludge. Once I was sick and my roomie who likes it got it for me so I could get better and I drank it and yum! Its so good! I just offered it to my father when he was just visiting and he looked at me like I was crazy.
I’ve seen those at the store. I don’t know if I’d get them though because generally stuff like that has a ton of sugar in it. It’s weird to drink things that are green but they are so yummy and healthy!
i dont think it does:
The ingredients are apple juice, peaches, mangoes, strawberry and banana puree, spiruline, soy lecithin, vitamin C, wheat grass, barley grass, wheat sprouts, Jerusalem artichokes, lemon bioflavonoid and Nova Scotia Dulse.

Ah, cool! I guess it’s actually healthy then as oppposed to all those other brands that just pretend.
