Today’s food was AWESOME. Seriously.
This morning I tried to find something I really wanted but we were out of eggs, milk, wheat bagels… basically all the things I normally like to eat. So instead I used one of my long neglected packets of instant oatmeal from Quaker. It was the maple and brown sugar flavor and I added half a banana with some cinnamon.
(Side note: Kepa made my ebook into a real book. Because he is an awesome boyfriend like that. I generally don’t think of it being a real book so he made it one. Hehe.)
I generally hate oatmeal but this wasn’t too bad. I guess with the right toppings oatmeal is really good. I just need to start putting good things on top to make it worth eating.
I also had a slice of turkey bacon when Kepa made some for his breakfast sandwich.
For lunch I made some tuna to fill an avocado with. I also ate a few nuts with fruit that was leftover trail mix from the road trip.
Someone on twitter asked how I make my tuna. It’s honestly something that’s different every time depending on what I have available. I basically take a can of tuna and mix it with (usually light but only had regular this time) mayo and onion powder. If I have it I’ll use some mayo and greek yogurt both. I usually have some kind of fruit in it: either green grapes or raisins. Today I also cut up celery and green peppers to put in there. It was really nice! I absolutely LOVE putting tuna on top of an avocado. This meal was a bit heavy on the healthy and not-so-healthy fats, but it’s all good. YUM.
Then after lunch we went to guitar center so Kepa could play guitar a little bit and get his musical fix in. ;)
For dinner my mom made beef stroganoff and brussel sprouts. Brussel sprouts!!
They were actually really good! I had never had them before (because I used to be a really picky eater… I’m posting about that tomorrow) so this was my first time with brussel sprouts. They are like mini cabbages – yum.
The beef stroganoff was so good that I even had seconds for once.
All in all, today was a freaking fantastic day. Everything tasted good!
After dinner I did Level 1 of Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred, so of course an hour later I’m STARVING. I ate another half of a banana with a tiny bit of peanut butter and grabbed a plum to eat when we go watch a movie. Yep, I always take food to movie theaters if it’s time for me to eat. ;)
Hurray fruit! It was a good snack that hit the spot. I guess if I’m going to workout with Jillian I should expect a little more hunger than normal? That’s why I do it at night at least – only one meal or snack to go instead of a whole day! Haha.
What do you love to put on your oatmeal? Give me some ideas!
Do you like brussel sprouts?

Oh my goodness, that book = best thing ever. Kepa = best boyfriend ever. :D
I like to put cottage cheese in my oatmeal — everyone thinks that’s weird but it’s really good! (Plus protein-y!) I put maybe a 1/4 cup in after the oatmeal is cooked, and stir it all up, then top with berries and shredded coconut. So good!
he really is! :)
That is weird? LOL. I guess I might try it since you say it’s good.
The Tuna in an Avocado is GENIUS! I’m SO going to try this out next week – and can’t wait!!! YUM!!!!
What did you think of the 30 Day Shred? I do it about once a week, and my muscles are shaking for about an hour afterwards everytime! Jillian is crazy! And she says some pretty quirky stuff, which makes it entertaining!
Oh you should. I love tuna in an avocado!
30 Day Shred is HARD. I did it on level one and I can’t even imagine what comes after that. My body is shaking in fear of the next levels. LOL. I can’t imagine doing it every day for 30 days. OUCH. I’m doing it a couple time a week and that’s enough. She does say some weird stuff.. I was not expecting that!
Kepa is such a sweetheart.
I put so much on oatmeal. Fresh fruit, chocolate, cereal & I want to put lollies in it one day.
Love Mr Brussel
He is. ;)
Candy in oatmeal? Interesting… hehe.
That’s so cute of him!! Your book looks beautiful :)
Your tuna-filled avocados look amazing! And sounds so filling/satisfying.
I’m a PB-oatmeal girl :)
I love to cut brussel sprouts into quarters and saute them in a bit of butter and garlic. (When I could eat bacon I’d chop some turkey bacon up and fry it in with it too.) I also add a touch of water about halfway through so they steam up as well as get flavourful, without burning too much. (A little brownyblackness is tasty, too much = blech.)
Tuna salad is so versatile isn’t it? Can add so many things to it. I haven’t tried it with fruit before though. I instinctively wrinkle my nose at the idea. Perhaps in the spirit of your trying-new-foods post on your other blog I should try it to see if I really do like or not, instead of assuming.
Oatmeal, I like it with pear sauce or apple sauce mixed in. Sometimes I even cook it with some pear water leftover from making the Kiddo’s pear sauce. Honey and milk. Craisins and milk.
My parents like it with chopped dried apricots, chopped dried dates, raisins and milk.
My in-laws like it with sliced banana and milk.
Alaskaboy’s favourite way of eating it is with brown sugar and raisins with milk.
You should try fruit in tuna salad! I like it. I like fruit in anything though, so maybe it’s just me. Haha.
Haha, thanks for giving me the whole family’s preferences. Lots of good ideas for me to try.
I like to put bananas and/or a little spoonful of peanut butter in my oatmeal. mmmm
I don’t like brussels sprouts. Then again, I havent tried them since I was prob a teenager. So maybe I do. But brussels sprouts, turnip, and most times, asparagus, are about the main veggies I don’t like. I used to eat oatmeal for breakfast every day. I started out with quaker oatmeal packs, then moved to plain of that, with brown sugar or raisins, then moved to a healthier brand of packets, with the same thing. Then I stopped eating oatmeal cuz I like my cereal better. Once in a while, I make at home non packet oatmeal. Its actually really easy to put the regular quaker oatmeal in a bowl with the water and microwave it. My fav thing on it is STRAWBERRIES!! Fresh. With brown sugar. Then again, I LOVE strawberries. Lol. Jillians workout was prob really intense.. Hard workouts always make me starving, which is why I rush home for dinner!
I like cereal better, but all we have now is sugary cereal. So oatmeal is the better option for now. ;) Mmmmm strawberries!
everything tastes better with strawberries. :)
I’ve never tried brussel sprouts…I had them in my hand the other day in the store, but put them back! I need to be brave one of these days!!!
Jillian is definitely a good work out! I hate it and love it at the same time!!
Haha. Be brave! Try new things! Do you like cabbage? If so I think you will like brussel sprouts.
