One thing I would recommend before you start blogging or now if you are trying to build a better blog, is to examine the reasons why you want to blog and what you are trying to achieve with your blog.
Are you blogging to accomplish your health related goals? Are you blogging to meet new people and find a supportive community? Are you blogging to sell something? Are you blogging just to get your thoughts out there and receive validation?
All are valid reasons to blog. Once you’ve decided why you are blogging, then you can determine what success will mean for you. Success doesn’t necessarily mean making money with blogging. Perhaps having a successful health blog means you have a lot of readers who support you through comments and social media interaction. Perhaps having a successful blog means creating a blog that leads to bigger opportunities. Or perhaps it does mean you start making some money. It could be all of these factors, or none of them. Knowing what you consider success to be will give you a better guide for what to shoot for with your blog.
For most bloggers we start out dreaming of having a popular blog with thousands of loyal readers. We want people to read what we have to say and offer validation in the form of comments and other interaction. Usually this is and remains the number one way to measure success. Personally this was what I wanted when I started blogging and what I still strive for. Additionally, once you realize how hard it is to make money with a blog you may realize that this is perhaps the best measurement of success in blogging.
