Weigh In: Marching Toward Weight Loss

by Mary on March 14, 2010

in Weight Loss

I was hoping to get a video done today but unfortunately it’s not going to happen.

I know, you are crying your eyes out right now.  You miss seeing me.  It’s understandable.

Next week there will be a video from Fitbloggin in Baltimore, I hope.   I’m missing videos!  I like how they SHOW my progress over time just as well as the numbers do.  So they will definitely return once I figure out the technical difficulties I’m having.

Now on to the stuff you were wondering about…

WEEKLY WORKOUTS

Wednesday March 10 -  1 mile walk/run; 30 minutes on the stationary bike; 50 minutes on the treadmill walking at 3.2 mph with hill intervals; chest press 45 lb 3 x 10, incline press 45 lb 3 x 10, fly machine 40 lb 3 x 10; situps with 8 lb medicine ball 3 x 20.

Thursday March 11 -30 minutes walking on the treadmill at 3.2 mph 1.0 incline; leg press 145 lb 3 x 10, leg extension 40 lb 3 x 10, leg curl 40 lb 3 x 10, calf raises 145 lbs 3 x 10, shin exercises, inner thigh machine 3 x 10, outer thigh machine 3 x 10 both at 55 lbs.  lots of stretching.

Yeah, I only did two workouts this week.  That’s a bit sad.  I’m pretty sure my weight loss is from last week when I didn’t weigh in.  This week in all reality was probably a gain.

WEIGH IN STATS

This is my first weigh in for march!  Hurrah!

Current Weight: 210.6 lbs
Previous Weight: 211.8 lbs
Weight loss: -1.2 lbs
Weight loss in March: -1.2 lbs
Starting Weight: 251

Alright.  10 pounds away from 200.  It’s getting closer!  Ahhh!  Eventually I’m going to be under it!  This week I’m going to be super busy but I’m going to try to get in a lot of exercise along with healthy eating.

OTHER THINGS

Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive of my plans to move to New Zealand.  I’m excited and scared about it all at the same time.  It’s going to be a good experience and opportunity, to live in another country.  I’ll most likely blog about the move more, but since it’s not happening until August or September I won’t mention it much until then.  For now the only goal is to earn/save/scrounge up the money for moving.  The worst thing about New Zealand is how expensive it is to get there!

I’m still completely focused on getting to my next main goal of being under 200 pounds.  This weekend got me a bit off track with the fast food and the lack of exercise.  I’m realizing that I let other people and their habits and way of life sway me.  If they don’t exercise and eat out a lot when I’m with them I do it too.  I need to be better about making my own decisions and making things work in my favor.  I like good food, that’s healthy and tastes good.  The stuff I ate with my friends fulfilled none of those points and I didn’t enjoy it very much.  So I’m trying to learn how to stand up for my way of eating and living when I’m with other people.  It’s a process.

At least my weekend was fun, if not super productive.  How was your weekend?

Big Things Are Coming!

by Mary on March 12, 2010

in Merriness, Thoughts

Today is Friday and I want to share some BIG things coming up with you all.  Mostly I’m doing this because sometimes I need a reminder of the good things that are going to happen.  Sometimes I feel stuck here (currently I have no transportation) and forget that I’m waiting and working toward big things in the future.  Some days it feels like I’m only thinking about food and weight and doing more exercise.  I like the routine and I appreciate how it is going to help me get closer to my end goals for weight loss, but sometimes I forget that other things are coming up in the future.  So I’m going to write them all here and share with you the greatness to come (mostly so I remember it all myself).

Contests and Good Things

CONTESTS

If you haven’t entered to win a $50 shopping spree from iherb.com, then go leave a comment to enter.  You can buy quite a bit of stuff with $50.

Next week I will be giving away another $50 from another cool company.  So if you don’t win the first giveaway you will get another chance to win.

I love giving stuff away!  I hate that I can’t give everyone something, but at least one lucky person gets it.  There will be a couple more awesome giveaways in April because it’s my birthday month!  I love giving stuff more than I like getting it.

FITBLOGGIN

I’m pretty dang excited about Fitbloggin.  It’s one week from the day I arrive and it all gets started.  The only thing I’m not looking forward to is the walk/run thing in the morning.  I’m almost 100% sure I am going to just walk the 1 mile.  I’ve been doing pretty well with my walk/run stuff but I don’t want to push it.  I tried to do that the other day and ended up with shin splints and it’s not worth it to create some deadline I’m not ready for.  So if I’m awake I’ll probably be walking if anyone else wants to walk with me?  Other than that part I’m super excited about Fitbloggin.  How could I not be?  It’s a conference of bloggers talking about healthy living blogging – which is my niche and passion and I love it!  I’m so excited to see old friends and meet some new ones. I get in at 2:12 pm on Friday, so let me know how to connect and meet up with everyone.

HEALTH BLOGGING EBOOK

I’ve mentioned it a few times and I’m still working on it, but it needs to be mentioned here because it is most definitely a BIG thing.  So far it’s 35 pages full of useful content. ;) It turns out after more than two years of weight loss blogging that I’ve got a lot of knowledge and information to share. It’s a bigger project than I thought it would be but I always want to make things the best they can be.  I don’t like doing big projects halfway.  So while I originally I wanted to release it next week, I’ve changed the release date until after Fitbloggin so I’m not rushing things and making it as good as it possibly can be.  Also, if I manage to learn anything new at Fitbloggin I can include it in the ebook!  Great plan, yes?  The new release date is Tuesday, March 30. Exciting, right?  It is exciting!

Kepa + Mary [358/365]

KEPA AND MARY’S USA ROADTRIP

If you read Kepa’s blog then you know that he just bought his plane ticket to come here, funded by his (and my) awesome readers.  Just like I had always wanted to visit New Zealand, Kepa has always wanted to visit America.  He is coming July 9th and I’m meeting him in LA to roadtrip across to Jacksonville, Florida then back to Memphis.  He wants to see as much of the US as possible and I have never driven across the entire US in one shot.  So we are doing a cross country roadtrip with stops in Vegas, Texas, New Orleans, Florida, Atlanta, and probably more.  Could that be any cooler?  I doubt it.  I’m looking forward to this and to being with Kepa again (that more than anything).  We are couchsurfing/staying with friends to keep the cost of the trip down, so if any of you are in those cities or along the way and want two awesome guests (or if you just live in the cities and want to meet up for coffee), let us now.   I’ll write more about the trip as it gets closer, but I just need to remind myself now that although I’m not doing anything exciting right now I will be doing it in a few months.

Beach on Waiheke Island

MARY MOVES TO NEW ZEALAND

Yep.  I’m moving to New Zealand.  I made the decision a while ago, possibly when I was in New Zealand sitting on a beach, that I was going to move there, at least for a while.  So I’m going to go on a working holiday visa and work some random jobs and live closer to Kepa.  Since I’m soon to be 24, I figure I might as well go now and try it out.  I’m honestly pretty excited about it all.  I know New Zealand isn’t perfect and I’ll have bad times and it will be hard, but I think it will be worth it.

OMG, I’m going to move to New Zealand.

Crazy?  Not crazy?  I’m not sure.  BIG decision?  Yes.  BIG experience? Yes.

So when is this big awesome crazy thing happening?  I don’t know.  I’m currently saving money but I’m only working sporadically (hurray non transportation having starting out freelancer!) so I have no idea how to know when I’ll have money for visas and tickets and moving.  I think I will put up a donation button for anyone who wants to help get me there sooner, but no pressure.  You all already are bringing Kepa to the US and I thank you a million times for that.  But if you do want to help, it will be there.  You can also buy my ebook when it’s ready (then you actually get something of value!) to help make it a reality.

But yes, the goal is to move to New Zealand by the end of 2010.  Talk about this being a crazy awesome year.

WRAPPING IT UP

When I started writing my blog and it turned into a weight loss blog, I never realized that I would be headed in this direction.  To be honest, I kind of fell into everything and never ever could have expected all of these things.  It’s crazy how life will take you in awesome directions when you let it.  Big things are coming up, so make sure you stick around for it all.  Subscribe by RSS or subscribe by email and follow along. ;)
