Currently I’ve challenged myself to get more steps by wearing my Polar Loop Activity Tracker and hitting 13,000 steps daily.
During this busy holiday season there are lots of overindulgences so I wanted to set a goal for myself to balance out all that extra food and drink consumption that will come from being merry.
Logging this many steps a day is challenging for me based on my regular activity levels. Working in a field where I’m on a computer all day long and sometimes all night long, it takes effort to pull away and be active enough. Wearing my loop all day is both a reminder and encourager to stand up and move around more often. Doing a little bit here and there often adds up throughout the day and leads me toward better health overall.
You can do the same thing with any fitness tracker or just a basic pedometer. It helps to measure your steps with one of these gadgets because it gives you no way to lie to yourself and assume you did more than you really did. I’ve used and reviewed two so far and really want to try the UP by Jawbone that is just $55 right now. You can see my existing reviews here: fitbit one review and polar loop activity tracker review.
Daily Step Count
Steps for the day: 13,073
“Quite an active day. You will improve your health levels if you continue like this.”
Activity for the day:
- walking around multiple stores while shopping
- walking juju
- putting up my Christmas tree and decorations
The last couple of days have shown me that I really don’t have to get in a formal workout like I thought I did to hit this step count. Yes, I have to walk for over an hour of the day to hit it, but I don’t have to change clothes or go to the gym or do anything fancy. That’s nice to know on days when I don’t feel like going to the gym or days when it’s less convenient.
I’m also surprised by how much activity some things take. Putting up my Christmas tree and other decorations involved a lot more walking and steps than I expected.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving and it’s going to be a wonderful day. I’m excited to still wear my Polar Loop Activity Tracker on the holiday and make sure I move enough to counteract the yummy turkey dinner I’m going to eat! For now, it’s time to take a break and get moving to up my step count for today. If you haven’t moved around in a while, step away from the computer and go move!

I wear a Fitbit and have a step goal everyday too. I am in a couple of challenges on the Fitbit page with friends and that keeps me motivated to get in as many steps as possible and crush them lol. I am quite competitive ;). It is fun to see how many steps I get in just doing everyday things or going to the grocery store etc.
