Merry Christmas, y’all!!
It’s Christmas week! This past weekend continued the Christmas celebrations as my immediate family had our Christmas celebration on Dec 20.
Last week leading up to multiple family and friend Christmas get togethers, I’ve been Christmas shopping and wrapping all week, so my room, is looking like a mess while I pile up Christmas gifts on my dresser.
Luckily all I’ve got left to buy is stocking stuffers!
I’ve also been writing Christmas cards and notes to go along with the gifts since writing hand written notes is one of my goals for the next few months. It’s been a good way to practice using my new calligraphy skills.
Since our family celebrated on Dec 20, we had a hybrid Christmas / Festivus party. The date was accidental since that was just when everyone was free, but it was serendipitous. My family is full of huge Seinfield fans so we’ve celebrated Festivus many times before.
If you don’t know what Festivus is, Wikipedia sums it up pretty well:
Festivus is both a parody and a secular holiday celebrated on December 23 that serves as an alternative to participating in the pressures and commercialism of the Christmas season. It has been described as “the perfect secular theme for an all-inclusive December gathering”. The holiday’s celebration, as it was shown on Seinfeld, includes a Festivus dinner, an unadorned aluminum Festivus pole, practices such as the “Airing of Grievances” and “Feats of Strength”, and the labeling of easily explainable events as “Festivus miracles”.
My little brother even went and bought a pole from Lowe’s so that we had a Festivus pole.
And yes, there was an Airing of Grievances and also Feats of Strength where people mostly just tried to see who they could lift. The Airing of Grievances was the most hilarious thing I’ve ever seen. Multiple people participated and there was even some sketch comedy going on. I haven’t laughed that hard in ages. It was so, so funny!
The fact that we all had such a good time? A Festivus miracle!
Well, we almost all had a good time. This was Baby C’s first time celebrating Christmas and Festivus with us. I’m not sure she really enjoyed it and her bib summed up her opinion perfectly: “Are these people really my relatives?”
Really. My niece is the cutest even with her mean face!
Between gifts, writing cards, cooking and working I’ve been super busy over the past week! It was very fun and I’m looking forward to this Christmas week off spending time relaxing and celebrating with families. It’s going to be another awesome Christmas this year. :)
Hope you all have an amazing Christmas week as well if you celebrate the holiday!
Hahaha- I love your niece’s expression and bib!
