2011 Goals Check In {2}

May 18, 2011 by Mary

My check ins regarding my yearly goals are nowhere near monthly, but I figured it’s time to see how I’m doing on my goals for 2011.

2011 Goals Check Up

Completed:

  • Complete a triathlon. – Completed Jan 23!!
  • Find a part time job. – Killed this one because I am employed full time right now at a Memphis web design firm! Yes, awesomeness domination! It’s the best job I’ve ever had and I absolutely looooove it.

In Progress:

  • Read a book a week. – 17/52. I got off track with this for a while with the move and new job but I’ve been reading pretty regularly otherwise. Right now I’m reading a book for work and I’m about to finally start Women Food and God: An Unexpected Path to Almost Everything. ;)
  • Cook my way through a cookbook. – I’ve only made a few recipes from Roni’s Green Lite Bites cookbook, but I’ve at least started this!
  • Clean up my eating/count calories. – I’ve been doing good since getting into a routine with my work schedule.
  • Pay off credit card debt. – Happy to report I’ve paid off one of my credit cards! One more to go.
  • Increase A Merry Life traffic. – I haven’t had much time for this lately so traffic has stalled again. This will be my weekend project eventually.

Upcoming:

  • Learn to sew. – Technically I know how to sew by hand, but I want to learn to use a machine. I think I’m going to ask the lady making my wedding dress to also let me learn to sew/use her machine. Never hurts to ask!
  • Run a 5k. – I stopped running during the move/settle period, but I want to start running soon.
  • Get married and have the best wedding ever. – Yes! I can’t wait for this!

Not Likely:

  • Ride 2011 miles on my bike. – This is the one goal I doubt I will finish. I don’t even have a bike right now and won’t for several months! This dream has to die, but maybe I can still accumulate a lot of miles moved.

I think I’m doing great since I’ve accomplished my two biggest goals of the year (not on the list but in my mind they were). Go team!

How are you doing with your goals for the year if you set any?

–

Today’s stats: 2.2 miles walked, 100 jumping jacks, 10 wall pushups, and 7 flights of stairs climbed. No weights because Wednesday is my day off! !  Drank 128 oz of water and ate 1720 calories. Win! Today was a good day!

I hope you like the Geneen Roth book! I just wrote about it on my blog last week, I had been struggling and it feels like I found it at the perfect time. So much of it hit so close to home. And she writes semi-informally, so it’s a fun and interesting read.

Hi Mary, I have not left many comments before but I wondered if your astma is any better since you are back in the USA.

On your employer’s website, I was pleased to see that they have already put a halo above your head on the cartoon. That is you, istn’t it? It must be going well!

    Best wishes,

    Yolande

No that’s not me, that’s my boss. They haven’t updated the photo to put me in there.

My asthma has been better for the most part, but I have had a couple occasions where I needed my inhaler. My allergies have been pretty bad, but I’ve heard it’s one of the worst times ever for that.

Awesome job! Keep up the great work and you can always move the bike goal to next year so you have something to look forward to.

If you move the bike ride to next year you’ll have to cycle 2012 miles!

I did my first triathlon the year I turned 35. This is the first year I have not had any major goals and I am inspired by your site. ANother reminder to get my butt in gear. I know it, just need to follow through. Thanks!

Um, it can’t be a good sign if I had to track back through my blog in January to see what my actual goal was, correct? But thanks to you and this post, I did:

“I vowed to kick fear’s ass in 2010. And I think I gave her a good beating. But it’s now time to put that bitch down for the count.”

Have I taken her completely down in 2011 so far? I haven’t, but I’ve made steps, including the simple act of taking a spin class. I sorta kinda hate doing “new things” – I feel out of my comfort zone, and I’m determined that I look like a complete tool to everyone else. But I sucked it up, tried it, and now? I’m in love with it. That’s what happens when you go toe to toe with fear, I guess.

Keep on keepin’ on…so glad to hear you love your job so much!

That’s a pretty huge goal my friend! That’s awesome that you’ve branched out and done things on your own. And a spin class? Way cool!

Yeah, maybe change the 2011 miles biked to 2011 moved….then you can include your walking miles, and maybe miles swam or biked when you get access to those things again. Just modify the terms of the goal! :)

      May 20, 2011 at 6:33 pm

I actually said that i was doing that in a previous post, but since the ONLY option I currently have is walking I wont get anywhere close to 2011. Oh well.

I still need to mail your prize. I’m so slow!

I found the best thing for my sewing skills was to take an intro sewing class way back when (there are a lot out there; search online, but also check out colleges as well). I don’t think that your wedding seamstress will let you use her machine, most people (myself included) are pretty protective of their sewing machines!
