2013 Goals

January 1, 2013 by Mary

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure for details.

After recapping my 2012 goals I spent a couple hours thinking about my goals for the new year.

  • Lose 50 lbs. Yep, I’m setting an actual goal. The past few years have all been “get healthier” or “lose weight” without any specific times or goals attached. I’m going to try something different this year and give myself an actual number goal. With a deadline. It’s not frightening since it’s only about 1 pound a week. I believe I can do that easily if I get serious as I intend to do. I told a friend and my mom about this goal before putting it on the blog, and it felt good to say it. It felt like I will really do it. In 2013 I will lose 50 lbs.
  • Pay off my debt. I’m adding this goal again to my list because I didn’t fully knock it out last year. This isn’t a pressing matter but I feel like this new year is the time to clean up everything in my life, including this remaining debt. Being in debt feels very similar to being overweight and I’m tired of both. In 2013 I’ll pay off my remaining $5,000 in student loan debt. I will be using ReadyForZero to track my progress with this.
  • Explore Memphis. I’d like to spend the next year exploring Memphis more. I’d like to get to know the city and people here better after being a vary transient citizen the past 7 years. I’d come in and out of this city only staying for a few months at a time and not really taking advantage of all there is here. I know Memphis is a cool city and it’s actually becoming a much healthier place to live. I’d like to explore it more, including going to farmers markets, new restaurants, parks, bike areas, and more. In 2013 I will explore Memphis and make it feel like home.

So that’s it. Just 3 goals for the new year. Lose the next chunk of weight, pay off the last chunk of debt, and explore the city I’m calling home.

Simple enough right? Seems like it when writing my goals, but I know there is a lot of work to do behind all those goals. Budgets to make, healthy meals to prepare, research to do. It won’t all be easy but I think it’s possible.

What are your 2013 goals?

Those are great goals and I am sure you can reach them! I agree with the debt thing. That is one of my resolutions that is not a resolution because I am a chicken but it is there by default. Happy new year!!

Those all sound like great goals for the new year. I’m focusing on two: exercise more (at least 5 days a week) and following serving sizes for food. I didn’t feel well yesterday, so my workout was only 20 minutes, but I can say I worked out :)

I love the simplicity of your goals! You can do this. And yes, being in debt is like being overweight!

    Happy New Year, Mary!

Awesome goals for 2013! I love the idea as viewing it as only 1 pound a week, it definitely makes it seem less scary!

All the best to you in 2013! :)

Those are awesome goals – good luck!
My goals for this year are to ..
    1. Get divorced – I have been legally separated for 26 years & due to lack of money, etc, I never did that.
    2. Get my huge debts down – I would say pay them off but I seriously don’t think I’ll get there this year.
    3. Save – This would be to have money in reserve for anything that I need instant cash for ie – car break downs, a new tyre, tv repair, etc. Also money for travel.
    4. Maybe find a hobby. Many years ago I took up patchwork quilting. I made two quilts – one for my son, then five years old & a double one for my mother. I stopped for one reason or another but I did enjoy it. I also did cross-stitch but I think I enjoyed patchwork the most. When I was teacher training I did a painting course & really enjoyed it so I’m sort of thinking about doing a painting course as well.
Anyway those are my goals – I don’t know if I’ll get there but I’ll try.
    Anyway those are my goals

I’m jumping aboard with the first 2 goals, I even put a number on the weight I need to lose although it’s “only” 20 lbs. it’s still gonna take some work do to the fact that I’m struggling with a bad hip and shoulder.
But never the less it’s my goal and like you I wan’t to get there. ;)

And bringing down my debt has always been a priority, because the less debt I have the more money I have to spend on the fun stuff.!

So happy new year to you, and I’m hoping that we both get there.! ;)
