Another awesome day at work in the books!
It was also a healthy day. I walked a mile and a half during lunch and I brought a healthy lunch and snacks with me. I actually ate my lunch in the outdoor courtyard next to my building while watching a short opera performance!
Opera Memphis was doing a short free performance to get people interested and share the arts. I have to admit I’m not a huge fan of opera and I’ve never listened to it before, but I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. There was one song where two girls just sang “Meow” back and forth and acted out a cat fight. It was really cute.
I also walked about the same distance yesterday. I could possibly even walk more if I ate my lunch while walking. I’m a slow eater so it takes about half my break for me to eat. I also paced a bit today while reading something and have to walk out the office and down the hall to use the restaurant so I get a little bit of extra activity with those things.
Last night after work I went on a 1.6 mile walk with my mom and I’m hoping to do the same tonight. Eventually I want to go to the gym after work but that means I have to join the gym first. My goal is to join over the weekend so I can start going next week.
It seems like things are going really well in the healthy/Operation Wedding Sexy area. I’m now going to go fix a healthy dinner and then go for a walk to finish out the day. Hope you are all doing healthy things too!
Do you like to go for walks during lunch?
Anyone an opera fan? What do you like about opera?
I enjoy classical music to read/study to and to listen to when I’m falling asleep. I think that helped me transition to loving opera – that, and moving from a small town in Connecticut to Chicago. My graduate student ID got me a $200+ opera ticket for $20. It’s such a luxurious way to spend a couple of hours! Listen to “Voi che sapete” from The Marriage of Figaro and imagine you’re sitting in a velvet seat, it’s dimly lit in the theater, and you’re dressed up feeling lovely. What’s not to love?!
That sounds lovely! I miss getting student discounts on tickets.
I love to walk at lunch. I work at a facility that has a huge campus. I can walk outside where there are nice sidewalk paths or inside where there are lots of building that are all connected. This week I’ve walked inside to avoid getting too hot & sweaty and to avoid the pollen. There’s no excuse not to walk at my workplace! Glad you’re able to enjoy this too!
BTW, I know nothing about opera, but the show you described sounds interesting. It probably reminded you of your kitty. :(
Oh that sounds great! I wish I knew where I could walk inside to avoid getting super sweaty. I don’t know what I’ll do this summer when the temps are around 100. I’ll figure something out though!
One of the things I love about opera are the costumes and the sets! They’re always so beautiful! The singing is often hard to understand because of the way they enunciate (or so I find) not to mention it’s often in a different language, but what you described about the cat fight sounded really cute!
I would love to go and see the costumes. They were just wearing regular clothes yesterday but I bet the costumes are awesome!
The only thing I always wonder is how they can still sing when they wear what looks like a really tight dress, with the corset middles and all! How can they breathe, let alone sing? Always boggles my mind.
Way to go on your walks! I don’t work outside of the home so no lunch break walks anymore. I usually do an in home workout or hit the gym. But I might just have to start taking a walk before lunch to get some fresh air.
I liked going to the gym during the day when I wasn’t working anywhere. That was really fun! Walking is a good substitute though. :)
loving watching your tweets too and fitting exercise in!
Now that it is nicer I should walk outside before the deathly summer heat comes!
I’m not really a fan of opera but I can’t say I hate it.
Your optimism seems to really be coming out with each post :)
I walk with my friend twice day around the block where we work. It’s a nice stress relief from whatever we’re dealing with at our desks and allows us to get some exercise and girly talk time in to boot!
The cat scene reminded me of Cats (the broadway play) although I don’t think that’s an Opera. lol Your lunch sounded like a time I would have wholeheartedly enjoyed. I’m glad you work in such a nice area!
I’ve never actually been to the opera, but I enjoy the music on occasion. I love that it’s so technical and passionate at the same time.
Wow your hair is getting long! No. at some jobs I have gone for lunch walks but I only get a half hour lunch break so most often I just eat in a room here that’s called the “quiet room” which has a reclining chair and is so peaceful, or sometimes I eat outside but no time for walking! I am not an opera fan. My sister sings and when she was younger the singing company she did performed the clown opera and the nun opera for this special thing in the capital to bring opera to people in NH (because by implication nh ppl are uncultured) and I saw them. I liked that my sis was singing in them, to support her, but I was bored. You don’t even know what theyre saying! I like some musicals that have powerful music in them, in english because I know what theyre saying. The last one I saw was jeckyll & hyde which ive seen twice and is great.
Great site I do alot of walking,It really a great form of exercise plus i find it relaxing to take a nice walk in the evening.
I try to get out for a walk at lunch but I usually fail. I saw an infographic last week that stated sitting down all week increased the risk of heart attacks by 40% – now, there’s an incentive to get up and walk if ever there was one!

Right, I’m off for a walk!
